There is an area where people just dump unwanted stuff. Becomes unsightly. Should be able to get to your storage unit even if the office isn’t open. Should get a refund if you move out early.

I signed up to pick it up in Crystal Lake. I get an email (not a phone call, nor a text) the night before at 4:00 saying that my pickup location was changed to libertyville, 55 minutes away. After contacting several people they ended up upgrading my truck to a bigger size, but still had to pick it up in McHenry which is about 30 minutes away. Very disappointed.

Overall, not bad. Very unhappy about the “24/7 access” selling point. When I made a reservation, there was NO indication that 24/7 access was an additional fee. This was the reason I went with this location versus a facility closer to my residence.

On the web site, I did a search for the trailer I needed. I then was given a list of locations, and chose this one. When I arrived at the location, I was told that I needed to go to Antioch (about an hour away, and in the opposite direction from where I was moving stuff to) to get the trailer I rented. The man explained that when I chose my location, it was only a “preferred location”. It is my opinion that if I do a search with a date, time, and which equipment I want, and your site then gives me choices of locations, the equipment I choose should be at that location. I opted for a smaller trailer (the smallest was the only one available), rather than travel an extra two hours out of my way. As a result, I was unable to move everything I needed to. To me, this is an unacceptable practice by U-Haul.

You absolutely need to improve your app to check a truck back in, especially after hours. It's very slow, asks questions of things that would've been helpful to know before putting the keys in the drop box. (i.e picture of odometer, fuel gauge, inside of truck, etc) Or at least put that info on the dropbox, instead of stating, drop your keys here and go to the app to check in.

There is nothing that could be done to have a better overall experience. Everyone is extremely polite and very helpful. And with two separate families combining into a new household I was beyond stressed and U-Haul and the products that I purchased and rented made everything so much easier. Whoever is in charge of training for customer service should be commended. I usually get mad at everybody for something. But I can actually say that my best experience in this whole thing was actually U-Haul.

The only thing that I am not happy with is the fact that you put a dolly as well as blankets in the back of every truck that you rent out. This takes up space in the back of the truck that is being rented to accommodate furniture, boxes or etc. Also I was charged for the blankets that I didn't even use because the green zip tie must have been accidentally torn off of the bag at some point in time. These things shouldn't be put in the truck unless asked for by the customer.

Took forever. Service person took forever to accept a payment of the previous customer while I waited quietly. Then allowed a pushy customer to continue to interrupt my return. I finally had to leave. Took 30 minutes for me to return the truck. Not enough people there to help customers

A person was added to my account without permission. Given personal information (unit number, pay date, credit card being used to pay) also without permission. Complete violation of trust!!

The parking lot is a mess!! Full of pot holes. And for a business that you drive vehicles around in the parking lot (to move the trucks, drop off, etc) you’d think it would be better maintained. Also, when they gave me the truck that was already started, they failed to tell me the gear shift sticks, so ever time I went to start the truck, the key wouldn’t turn unless I jiggled the shift stick. When I returned truck and told them the problem, they said, “oh yeah, it’s been like that for awhile. It’s the only truck that does it. We never know which one it is tho when we rent it out.” I don’t believe that since the staff starts the trucks and pulls them up for customer... a simple FYI would have been nice! The first time I had to start truck on my own, I was calling road side assistance because I couldn’t turn key!! Until my mom gave me idea to jiggle the shift stick, and sure enough, the key turned to start truck so I hung up. Staff should b more informative of the equipment they rent out, especially if it has issues!

For the most part the truck was clean - with the exception of the front windshield and windows - they were coated with bug splatter that was on there so hard that using the squeegee at the gas station wouldn't even remove any of it.

I rented the truck for three days as a one way rental, I actually rented two trucks. I was done with the truck rental on day two and called to see if I could return the truck and if a refund would be sent for the unused day. The gentleman on the phone said yes and that you only pay for the truck when you have it. I arrived thirty minutes later to drop off the trucks and was told that there would be no refund and the gentleman admitted that he provided incorrect information after calling and speaking to the district office and requesting a refund for the unused day on each unit the individual was unwilling to honor what I was told. Instead she pushed off my complaint and requested I call tomorrow morning to talk with Tony, refusing to give me a last name, and that he would be in after 11am. I still am requesting to have a credit applied for the final unused day on each rental. The manager at the district office originally told me that she couldn’t provide a refund then changed her story to she had made a decision, when I questioned wether it was policy that the refund could not be given or if she was choosing not to assist me by honoring what I was told she got defensive and had an attitude. I rented a trailer from there and returned it the same night. Two days later I get a bill that they overcharged me. I called and was bounced from department to department with no help. I wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone at the location. So I was scammed and they refuse to try and resolve it.

$1.19 mile is steep. I will shop it around before I visit Uhaul again. The truck worked but it was very inefficient because it had very little torque, took a lot of acceleration to get going, had well over 150k mikes (no worries there if properly maintained), when I let the folks no about it, there didn’t seem to be any worry about it. Again that is neither here or there but it is the impression that was left. There is a charge for everything, and UHaul is a last resort for me, not a first choice. No real bargain in my view. All you have done is advertise low daily rents but you have offset any savings by charging more for everything else. Bottom line - no real savings for what you get. And the cost of operating and insurance is pushed on the customer.
