Booked a 15' truck and received a confirmation phone call and number that a 15' truck was available as well as our additional rental equipment. I received a phone call an an hour and a half before my pickup time from Uhaul saying there are no 15' trucks and that they replaced it with a 10'. This was too small and I asked what had happened to the confirmed truck and he replied with â€œI have no proof that a 15' truck was confirmed. DESPITE my confirmation emails including the number, he continued to tell me I was wrong and they he could give me a 26' for the same price. When I arrived, we got the 26' truck which they tried to charge me extra for and didn't have any of the equipment that I rented. That would have been a nice heads up- no dolly, no furniture pads. No reimbursement on the extra gas that this massive truck guzzled. When we went to drop off at our CONFIRMED drop off location the workers said they couldn't take it and we had to drive to another location-, which is a huge hassle for a 26' truck in a big city. Got the keys for the first van with broken side window, broken (not working) a/c , the van was obviously damaged , dents and scuffs and scrapes all over .where we had to dispute all the reference pictures . The door also was off the henges. Went back in waited in line 30+ . Was given a different set of keys due to damages, the second van maintences and tire emergency dashboard lights came on as soon as the car was turned on. Waited in line another 30+ minutes. Finally got a working undamaged van almost an hour after my reservation . Since it was an hour later we were caught dead in the middle of a hurricane trying to move instead at the reserved time that would have avoided all weathwr related issues . I followed the signs and waited in the vehicle for about 10 minutes. Nobody came out to help me. I ended up going inside, waited for the lady to get off the phone. I told her I was there to return a truck and she told me I had to park and wait for the â€œguysâ€ to come help me. I told her I was out there for about 10 minutes already and nobody came to help me. She looked at the security camera to see my truck was indeed parked and said she'd call the â€œguysâ€ to come help. As I was walking back outside, I noticed three â€œguysâ€ in a room to the side all eyes on their phones. Even as the guy came out to help me he walked up on his personal phone and then he switched to the phone they use to check people in. Mobile pickup process is confusing and eventually failed, AFTER I already found and entered the designated truck. I have to go back to the office to complete the check in process. For the second time in two weeks, UHaul gave me a complete runaround on a reservation I had made. In both instances, I made a reservation on UHaul's website, and, twice they told me that the equipment I had reserved was available at a location. Both times, I arrived to pick up the equipment to find that the equipment wasn't there and that uHaul sent me to a different location to get it, wasting my time and putting my project in jeopardy. In one instance, they wanted to send me to two different locations to pick up a truck at one and a auto transport at another even though my reservation was to pick them up at the same location. Both of these experiences cause me to doubt UHaul's ability and desire to serve my needs.Brad D.

Teach people answering the phone empowerment and not to make excuses and treat customers rudely when manager is absent. I had made a reservation at a different location for a 15' truck. I was in the VCU location purchasing boxes and had them check on my reservation only to find my reservation was moved to a different location which was not open on Sunday and my reservation was cancelled. this is NOT GOOD customer service. I needed to get a truck loaded so my only option was to rent a 20' truck which they had at the VCU location. This cost more money and took more gas. Not PLEASED with this move. We were at the location 15 minutes prior to picking up the van I reserved online, but did not get keys until 45 minutes after our reservation. There was one man working a very busy front end and he seemed to not have any clue what he was doing. A lady came to help him finally, but she had an awful attitude and was rude to everyone who had been waiting in line for nearly an hour. All of the customers (nearly 20 or so) were frustrated and felt like service was horrible. There were customers that were FaceTiming family members showing them the length of the line and the attitude that the employees were having. I feel like this is unacceptable service for someone who did the work on the front end to make a reservation, had the van back with over an hour left on my reservation, and someone who is paying nearly $80 to use one of your vehicles. Upon arrival to Uhaul at 900 N Lombardy street, I spoke with the front desk gentleman who told me to drive the uhaul truck, trailer/car, forward to the unload area and someone will help me. We waited for approximately 10 minutes before someone asked if we needed help. Once we got my car unhooked and ready for unload from the trailer we realized the car would not come off of the trailer because the front bumper was catching on the trailer lip. I called the front desk gentleman (John I think) and he instructed me to call "Dani" the manager. Dani stated that they could not be responsible for any damages to my car, and she told me to drive the uhaul truck and trailer to the car dealership and they would have to take it off the trailer. I called my car dealership (Mercedes-Benz) and the Richmond VA dealer instructed me to call Mercedes roadside assistance. I called Mercedes roadside assistance, and they could not help. I then called Dani back and explained the situation to her. She did not offer any help to me. I called Uhaul roadside assistance and I was told that they could not be of any service because there was no malfunction to the trailer and there was not a wreck. Ultimately, my girlfriend and I were left to handle this situation on our own. We did not receive any assistance or help from Uhaul personnel, aside from one gentleman (Sammy). Sammy was extremely helpful, and did everything he could to help us get my car off of the Uhaul trailer. I spent approximately 2-3 total hours at this Uhaul dealership, which also made me late to me meet my movers who were unloading the truck (which I already paid for). It was very disheartening to us. We just moved to Richmond and I do not know anyone here, or have anyone who can help me. The customer service was abysmal at this location, and I was left to perform tasks that should have been handled by Uhaul management. I am deeply unnerved by how I was treated. I just arrived to a new city, I don't know anyone here, and my car was stuck on a Uhaul trailer. Me, my girlfriend, and Sammy finally got my car off of the trailer.Charles H.

There seems to be a disconnect between what the local facility does and what corporate does. Every time a local manager approves something, the corporate office can't seem to get the record straight. This causes me a ton of wasted time which equates to a BAD experience. So is the local facility good? Yes. Is UHaul overall good? NO. Good facility for storage, but the staff are incredibly unprofessional. We are trying to isolate due to COVID and were promised that someone would help us check in from the parking lot. Instead we were met with staff members who were obviously high and didn't pay attention to our request at all. Tried explaining over the phone that we had an immunocompromised family member in the car who couldn't be exposed, but the person we spoke to was barely listening and didn't care at all. When we tried to flag down someone in the parking lot, they kept sticking their head in our car without a mask and were also obviously high. Because no one would listen, we had to go inside where staff were unfriendly and half weren't wearing masks. To top it all off, while we were unloading our truck, staff members were blatantly smoking weed in the parking lot. The communication about when we could access our unit was extremely unclear, and we received contradictory information from the website, emails, and on the phone with different agents. We arrived at 9pm after a long day of moving believing we could access our unit until 10pm. We found out we could only access it until 7pm (even though our reservation stated access hours were until 10pm). We were told to come back the next morning at 9am. When we arrived at 9am the next morning, the manager was late and so we still couldn't access our unit until 9:20 am. We had returned a vehicle transport the first night we arrived, checked it in and notified staff, but then 5 days later we got a call asking where it was. Unorganized to get truck keys. People who were last in line were first to get truck keys. It was a free for all. Should provide truck keys to those first in line or radio out to let truck employee know you are coming. Instead once ppl where done at counter they would bombard a truck employee for keys and no order to who was first. Lost a lot of time on my rental and day because of the disorganization on the lot. We only needed to store stuff for a short term. So the space was fine for what we needed. It is not so easy to load/unload in the area our unit was in. It was very crowded the morning we were loading from the unit. The area in the back parking lot was much less crowded, and if given a choice again I would choose something back there. The main issue was that we reserved a specific type of unit-main floor, no steps, a week in advance. We had limited helpers to move our stuff and my husband has back issues already. So I opted to pay extra for a first floor unit. When he arrived to get the unit he was told we had a walk up, because it is first come first serve. Which it does not state anywhere that that is the policy. Or we would have gone to the unit first to secure it, then to the apartment to load up. Why allow reservations if someone can come and take my unit? The staff was helpful, for what we needed them for, considering how busy they were. I had no issues with the building, security, or staff. An AC unit leaked into my storage space awhile back and even though I didn’t have the bogus rental insurance, i was not compensated from any of the items I threw out because of water damage.
