I've always rented from one U- Haul, then dropped it off at another. I think I kind of got ripped off by not being able to not drop it off closer to where I've moved. The truck had been running for hours prior to my arrival and the gas level was below half tank, however the paper work stated that the tank was half full. The truck was full of snow and ice when we arrived so we weren't able to leave until we cleaned off the truck. The poor girl who was working alone was out there trying to clean the truck, but was not successful so I had to shovel snow off of the truck to be able to leave so we lost over an hour.MATTHEW M.

The drivers side door did not shut properly. I felt unsafe. When I checked in inside the man did not put on his mask. I know he's behind plexiglass but the law says he still should have his mask on. When I dropped it off outside he came out and again did not wear his mask. He did keep his distance but out of respect for uhaul customers he should be wearing his mask. I picked up the vehicle at noon and scheduled to drop it off by noon the next day. I left my car there. I called that evening to see if I could leave my loaded truck at the uhaul parking lot and pick up my car for the night then come back in the morning so I could unload it. The woman who answered was not very helpful. She said that another employee in the morning would probably check the truck in. I said I would pick it up before they opened or I would leave a note in the truck explaining. Then I asked where to park it and she said there wasn't a place to park it. I could of left it in customer parking. It was extremely frustrating. I know she could of helped me. I also know that I would not hold the company responsible if there was a problem with my items in the truck. It's Hanover not a bad part of town. I believe they could of been more helpful.Linda M.

I was charged the wrong amount. The representative asked my husband to approximate how many miles we drove and he said 29, when in fact we drove 11. I was charged for the 20 and it was never adjusted.Steven H.

I was told by U-Haul customer service that my rental was a flat rate with no extra fees. I returned the truck with more gas than required and well under the mileage rate, but when I checked by credit card statement, I was charged over $100 more than the rate given by customer service. When I called them, they said there was nothing they could do about it and that I needed to call the local manager. Nobody there ever answered the phone and in the end the manager refused to refund the money. It's ridiculous that U-Haul customer service doesn't/can't stand behind it's commitment to customers and instead pushes it off to managers who are thinking about their bottom line instead.Julie F.

the truck had over 100k miles and was pretty beat up. But the worst part was that the windows and mirrors were so dirty that I almost got in several accidents. I was driving at night and the glare from the dirt and grease on the surfaces made is so difficult that we had to pull over at a gas station and use their squigy inside and out to get the windows and mirrors cleanPAUL L.
Couple of notes: 1. there was moisture in the storage area and cardboard boxes didn't hold up very well. Also - some fabric had mold due to the moisture and some furniture had a musty smell. 2. There was no lights inside the storage unit, so could only visit it during daylight hours. 3. Most of the staff were nice and helpful, however, were not well versed on UHaul's on-line systems. It took me a few months to figure out how to pay the rent on-line as the staff couldn't help me and I had to figure it out myself. 4. The gate to access the storage units was kept open during the day most of the times I visited in the summer. There was staff on hand, but no-one stopped to ask us for ID, etc. I understood that the unit was not climate controlled when I rented it, but did not know that dampness would be an issue and for that I would be reluctant to recommend to others.philip b. | Overall Experience
Only negative was that I had issues with renting the size truck I wanted on-line and had to go to the Hanover office. They set up the reservation for me. When I picked up the truck, it was a larger truck than I asked for, which cost me $10 more to rent and I think about $15 more in gas as I was going about 140 miles round-trip that day. However, everything else was fine and would not have a problem recommending to a friend.PHILIP B.

I attempted receive my rental van without making contact with anyone because if Covid-19. I was shocked that uhaul asked that I provide a name and phone number of someone to help them decide to rent to me. My valid MA drivers License and my American Express should be all that they need. After 20 Minutes of standing outside, I had to go in. When I asked the guy there to process my rental in person, he did. When I asked him how I would have received the key if I didn't come in to the office, he told me that he doesn't have it set up to get keys outside so I would have had to come inside to get the key. One issue that I had was I could not find the equipment when I attempted to book the trailer using the online system which referred me to other locations. I'm not certain why this was since when I arrived the preferred trailer was available. The representative swapped for the preferred trailer and got me on my way. Thanks!ROBERT R.

I lost at least a day because the sliding door goes up too high and can't be closed. I had to use several 2x4s and get help from a stranger to pry the door down. This happened twice and too hours to get something to pry the door free. I should get at least a day back!Robert B.

I rent trucks and trailers at this location fairly regularly. It's always been a good experience until this weekend. There was an employee who was obviously new and the uhaul web site was misbehaving. The trailer I rented wasn't linked properly and the tongue nearly went through my rear window as I was unloading it. I was also charged for the insurance I declined. The experience won't keep me from using this location again (yet) but the training needs some attention.Jefferey M.

Make it clear a reservation is not guaranteed. I got an emai 36 hours before my reservation saying a truck was not available. I had to adjust plans for help to make the move. It made me run 20 minutes over my suggested return time with less help. By the next day we had the truck after a panicky night.EDWARD C.

I had a terrible experiwnce with uhaul. I reserved a truck at one location and less than 24 hours before my pick up they hold me that specific location doesnt have my truck and had no other trucks available for one way drives. They sent me an hour out of my way to get a truck at another location. I reserved a dolly and the new pick up location had NONE. They told me i could go to aother location for it, i ended up buying one because there was a lowes on my way. When I called on saturday they sent rhey told me via email that the reservation could change.. they didnt. They only sent and email saying i needed to change or cancel the reservation to do so by Saturday. I was under a time crunch to move stuff out on sunday and now my plan to move had to be completed changed. I had two movers that were helping me move and now was waiting for me. There was no sorry or apology. I spent a good chunk of change of renting this truck, had to use my own gas money to dribe an hour out of the way to pick it up AND buy my own dolly. I called yesterday to complain was told someone would call me back to ecplain what happend... still waiting for a call back. Will never be renting from uhaul again. I understand that maybe a customer didnt return a truck on time so I dont have one. THATS not my fault. Someone from uhaul should have driven the truck to the other location. Or tell me atleast Saturday in the morning or friday night. And not having a dolly after driving out to the store? Very unpmeasant experience for the amount of money someone pays for a truck.ANDREW V.

When we arrived, the truck that I had booked back in June did not work. It wouldn't start. We waited 20 minutes to try to get it to jump and it would not jump. We were then told that it would be at least a few hours before a new truck could get here for us to take. Wouldn't you think to try to start all the trucks that morning or the night before to make sure they work? It is extremely inconvenient to make moving plans and have them completely ruined because the truck was unreliable. We were given a pick up truck instead of our 15' truck that we reserved. This is obviously not the size we had planned for so we were unable to complete our move in the day that we planned and have had to make several trips to move everything now. We were told that we would be given a discount for the inconvenience and when I checked the bill afterwards we were only given a $12 discount. I assumed it would be at least 50% off or something to make up for the inconvenience. Absolutely terrible experience and I will not recommend U-Haul or this location to anyone who is moving.Emily W.

Our reserved unit was given away and we didn't find out until our shipping container arrived and we were without a unit. The elevator was broken, our key card didn't work, and there is no ramp to easily access the elevator using the carts which made moving heavy objects very difficult.Brendan M. | First Impressions
I didn't realize the mobile checkin service would take as long as it did. I also didn't realize I needed to have a few additional verification items (additional contact numbers, passport, etc). The original location I ordered from did not have the size truck I reserved. They sent me to this location and this location did not have the size truck I reserved. Then I was told to arrive at 8am to pick up the truck. I arrived before 8am and the truck was not ready and I was told to come back at 9am, but I live 30 minutes away, making it impossible to go home and back within the hour. The only positive was that the representative working at this location was friendly and understanding, otherwise, the entire process was a nightmare.dennis C.

The elevator was almost alway broken. When you go to the office and inquire about when it would be fixed. Attitude is all you ever got. Not friendly ever. Front gate broken half the time. When checking out, And cleaning out my unit I swept up a lot of mice poop. Hope nothing is damaged. I asked about a partial refund since we paid for t full month on the ninth and checked out on the 18th. The lady said “ well you have to contact corporate I think they may prorate”. I have had this unit for almost 10 years never missed a payment never later on a payment, dealt with broken elevators and uncaring staff and I have to contact corporate for partial refund for the part of the month I didn’t use??
