This location does not offer the "Guaranteed $50" if your reservation is not honored. I recently had a reservation that could not be fulfilled, I agreed to an alternate equipment reservation but was not happy because I wanted my original reservation equipment. I had to drive to the Avondale location to get the equipment that I originally made a reservation for at the Oak Lawn location. The store mgr was able to get me the equipment that I wanted, repaired my right turn signal on my enclosed trailer, and was able to give me a one-way trailer so I could return my equipment rental close to my house. I booked my pickup at Evergreen Park location but the vehicle was not there. Called support and they said the vehicle is at Oak Lawn. I also booked the vehicle for 5 hours but was told it had to be back by 12 as someone else reserved it. I basically had to rush my move because the Uhaul system was incorrect.Jeff B.
My online rental experience was ok, but I wasn't aware the truck was being rented for a default of five days, until a representative called me to confirm pickup and explained one way rentals are a fixed rate for five days. Online doesn't show or explain that, something you might want to add, unless it was in small print. Although it was definitely cheaper than a moving company, it might have been more cheaper if I only was charged for the days I actually needed the truck for my move, and not a fixed rate for five days. Regular problems with autopay which was a known issue. The great month autopay didn’t work they contacted me, ran the card again and it worked. Every time after that though they did not contact me until it was 14 days past due, locking me out of my unit, and I would have to call for someone to unlock it. Last month, despite knowing this is an ongoing problem, they threatened to put a lien on my unit. The people at the facility are nice. The online sign up is very easy. I don't think they make it clear that these are not normal walk in units. These are stacked one on top of another. Very clean. There are two buildings and I was confused by where my room was bc the online reservation just tells you a room # but not a building #. I went inside the office and the guy who works there was polite and very helpful. He gave me a map of the building and explained how to disarm the unit with my access code and where to pull my car up. The only complaint is that an elevator or a ramp would have made it a less strenuous move. The only open locker was on the first floor and not the ground floor which was what I had registered for. When I got there it was too late and we were too tired but had no choice but to move it up a flight of stairs. I wish that it hadn't been changed but the employee td us they were building a new facility and I could request to move to that location when it was completed. If when I am ready to move it will be coming back to my house. I just wish that Uhaul had stayed with that ground floor instead of the 1st floor. The actual storage unit design with the low ceiling and no light is not good. I will not chose a facility with this configuration in the future. I'm not the tallest at 6ft but I've had moving support that could not move around without the danger of bunping their heads on the sprinkler.
