The facility and buildings were dirty and cluttered with trash. The elevators were sub par and barely worked. There were empty beer cans and paraphernalia around the facility

Customer service need to explain more about the storage if we are new tithe place for example that we need to buy our lock we should up with all our stuff and they’re was no lock so I had to take back all my stuff

There was NEVER ELECTRICITY/lighting in my unit, I told the manager when I moved in, 1 1/2 years later, never had a light. there were termite droppings all over my boxes. Several times the elevator was not working properly.Often no one in the office or answering the phone.I do not recommend this storage facility.

I had made the reservation over 1 1/2 months ago plus called 2 or 3 times to confirm my reservation over time. Upon my check in on 6/19, the associate let me know that for some reason there was a lock on the unit that I was to rent which he was not sure why. He said that he would personally drive down to the unit himself and cut off the lock if need be because the unit was empty. He called me from the facility to let me know that unfortunately he will not be able to rent this unit to me this day because the previous renter was coming over the next day 6/20, to come get their lock and supposedly did not want it cut off. I immediately asked the associate then what is he going to do for me. I just paid $1000 for flights and hotels to come here and I need a unit this day cause my daughters lease was up. He told me that there was no more units available unfortunately too which I was beyond furious. He then said he would talk to the manager at the facility. Somehow over a little bit of time, found another available unit which was great and all but now we were almost 2hrs behind schedule in our move. He was able to give me a really great deal on the unit which was super nice but not sure how something like this can occur. Before he found me that unit, I really had no idea what I was going to do with my daughters belongings. I was sooooooo. upset!!!!! It did work out in the end but because of the long delay, we didn’t get done moving til very late in the evening. The associate was very friendly did everything that he could do to help out the situation. This was no reflection on him. It was just very frustrating to come all this way to be told sorry the unit we reserved for you is now not available plus we don’t have anything else available.

Gail Russell | First ImpressionsI had someone break into our unit and we had the cut lock, the new lock put on, proof of cutting the lock with a lock cutter. They sent this weird agent detective who cane snooping around are house calling him self an attorney, talking to neighbors etc. he then interviewed me saying I am lying and treated me so bad that I had multiple panic attacks. I already suffer from PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. He would harass me on the phone on weekends etc. it was a third party U-Haul contracted. All of a sudden they told me I committed fraud and got nothing reimbursed from all the stolen goods. I lost a lot of valuables including sentimental Christmas decorations collected 30+ years. The whole case was handled horribly. I requested another agent, a woman and was denied so. I had no rights yet I was the victim. I will never recommend Uhaul to anyone as a matter a fact I will tell people my story and how awful I was treated. On top of it I just found out that I won’t be able to ever rent from Uhaul again due to committing fraud???? Yet the kept renting to me for another 3 years, but I can’t rent a truck? Not that I ever want to anyways. I rented from Uhaul for over 7 years and they can care less about their customer yet the charge a lot of money.

We did ask for a demonstration of how to use the elevator to move our things to a 2nd floor storage unit. Once we saw it demonstrated, there were no problems. We found lots of resources through MeatHead Movers. I called them on a Sunday, and they were quick to schedule 2 student movers to help us move things from a UHaul truck to the storage unit. We loved the free 30 day Storage Unit that came with one way UHaul Truck purchases. So UHaul Truck Rentals (154 Suburban Road, San Luis Ibispo, CA) & the UHaul Storage Place (4101 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA) were both easily coordinated by calling the UHaul Contact Center and then the MeatHead Movers Contact Center—made everything work supremely well. We are retired seniors and could not have done this without all their efficient help. One phone call from home coordinated the reservations for both the truck and the storage rentals. We appreciate all the help we received from these companies. You are conveniently located and easy to work with (Mapquest helped too). We thank you for everything. She was also very courteous and considerate when I came to view and sign up for the unit. I was really desperate to transfer my storage to your facility due to your excellent prices for the Santa Barbara area, compared to the high price I'm paying at a very comparable Public Storage facility in the same area. This move was such a relief!

Iwas hounded by David seceral Phone calls ge made to me about bringing Furniture pads back when I was told they were purchased by another staff on day of rental who is new and dis not know. I am very upset about the lack of professionalism and accuracy. David wants me to return the furniture pads after I was told they were purchased and no need to return them. I will never recommend this company. I will adress any unauthorized charges with American Express for fraudulent billing that I did not approve.

John Koontz | First ImpressionsThis review is a bit tricky to write, so I'm just going to put it all out there: Reservation/Pick-Up: U-Haul exceeded my expectations by far with how easy and convenient this process was. I was able to get a one-way moving truck with a car transport with absolutely NO hassle. U-Haul was communicative, professional, and friendly, and it was very enjoyable to rent a truck. The Trip: the truck and car transport were so well-maintained; we were grateful for the safe trip. We did notice that the mechanic who tied down our car on the transport - didn't tighten the front wheels down as efficiently; the car did seem to shift a tiny bit. It is possible that this was due to the mountainous driving through CO, but we had to pull over and redo the straps to really make sure the car was secure. It didn't move the littlest bit for the rest of our LONG journey (almost 19hrs of driving total). Storage: at first, my partner and I were delighted and grateful to receive the deal from U-Haul of the one month of FREE storage upon arrival to our destination. We thought that it was extremely convenient and smart. I have to say, though, is where the U-Haul experience started to put a less than positive experience for us. When we received the address for the storage unit that U-Haul had picked for us... the storage unit was 45 mins away from the city we were staying in. We didn't understand why there wasn't a storage unit closer to where we were actually staying. I recognize that while this isn't a HUGE deal, what is - is that we weren't told that the first month of free storage had restrictions. The contacts we had at our storage facility tried to charge us upon arrival. I told them that we were gifted with the first month for FREE. They told me that the first month was for free, but they just needed to have my card on file. I looked at my bank statement, and they charged me just over $411 for the second month of storage. So... the first month isn't free. They charge you for the first month, and then the second month is free. Very sneaky and pretty NOT OK. Not to mention the fact that $400 for storage is almost 2-3 X the price of other storage facilities. On top of this - they asked me to buy a lock from them for our unit. I told them I had my own lock - they said this was fine. We left and came back, and they had put an EXTRA lock on my unit. There was nobody in the office, and I had no access to my own unit. I had to wait for someone to show up on-site on a Monday afternoon and have them unlock their lock just so I could get into my storage unit. When I asked them why they put the lock on there - they told me it was for my safety because my own lock wasn't as good as theirs. They told me they were going to continue to place extra locks on my unit "for my safety" until/unless I purchased one of their disk locks. THAT is insane. The facility has security cameras on-site + you cannot get into the facility unless you have a storage fob. Overall: U-Haul was pretty impressive until it came to storage... they're extremely helpful, but I cannot get around the sneakiness.
