Although I should have read the contract on the phone more closely, I didn't think I was paying for insurance because the agent never asked me about it and never pointed it out to me in the contract, otherwise if I had a choice I would not have needed it. It wAs an extra charge for me. I think the reading on gas was incorrect and I was overcharged on this item. I noticed these two items I am talking about were complaints listed in reviews. Apparently this location may have a practice of over charging.
Richard DI went to this dealer weeks before renting as wanted to see vehicles available. The man only told me to look at the outside and would not show the inside. On the day of rental, as I walked into the office a large dog barked ferociously at me and I screamed in fear. The dog was off leash and owned by someone sharing the office space. The dealer thought it was funny. I have been attacked by dogs and had my dogs attacked by off leash dogs and suffer PTSD. This incident stressed me out very much. The dealer, Joe, did not have me sign a contract to rent, only sent me a photo of the document, which I thought strange and said "Don't I have to sign something?" but he indicated ddno. He did not show or tell me anything regarding the 25-foot truck except that he was giving me the 'newest' one on the lot. I did not know how to handle the emergency brake and had to call him about it before leaving. I noticed that the fuel gauge said "208" miles remaining. As I began to drive the truck, it did not seem to have much power and didn't want to accelorate. I noticed that the fuel gauge kept shifting rapidly downward and indicated miles dropping quickly off the fuel gauge even though I had not traveled even 1 mile. The next morning I put in 20 gallons of gas at $5/gallon to cover for 100 miles. Estimator says 10 miles per gallon. I ended up going 191 miles in total. When I was within 10-15 miles of Lebec driving north on HWY 99, the vehicle began jerking and shaking, so I pulled off at the Grapevine exit and to see if I had a flat tire but there was none. I headed north again and noticed that the RPM gauge was higher than it should be and not shifting into next gear. During my drive time with the vehicle, I noticed that the transmission was not smooth and the brakes were mushy and not as responsive as they should be. The overall physical condition of the truck was good but the transmission and brakes were not. I was charged $42 in fuel costs. I would have had to traveled at least 75 miles to justify that cost. I believe poor transmission caused the vehicle to rev and use more fuel and UHaul should not charge me for this. One other thing of note, I called the dealer from Grapevine and told him I was close and would be there soon. He did not tell me where to park the truck. I pulled in planning to put it in the same location. There was an internet company vehicle there with flashing lights and I could not pull in, and so I parked it on the side of the road near the business. A woman living across the street with at least four large dogs told me not to park there. I went into the office and the dealer told me that lady had a court order against him and for me to move the truck which took me another five minutes. He said she was "crazy" and a "real bitch." Very unprofessional. He did not provide me any hard copy paperwork and said he would email me the final invoice. Then I saw the extra surcharge in fuel cost. The next person renting the truck would put in fuel, not this dealer, and so why would UHaul charge me. Plus the transmission acted up so much that I really believe the vehicle was consuming more fuel for this reason. I want the fuel charge removed reimbursed to me. I also want an explanation of the rental tax amount on the bill. The estimate did not include this amount. Thank you.
Melanie fI returned the truck with as much gas as it was when picked up, but they added 6 more gallons to make sure they got a little some extra.
Peter SWell, the guy that runs it is really kind of weird and strange has no personality at all and seems to be very independent. Not open on the weekends just kills me and he has no equipment like boxes and things you need to move. And yes the truck is in excellent condition and very comfortable and easy to drive and I enjoyed using the U-Haul truck.
