I was originally picking up the trailer at a closer location to my house. Then was notified the night before that that location didn’t have the trailer I reserved. Therefore I had to drive almost 30 miles further to pickup the trailer elsewhere. So apparently reservations are not true reservations. This happened to me a couple years back when renting a large moving truck and car hauler. Ultimately I had to cancel last minute and luckily Penske was able to accommodate our move and vehicle needs.
Thomas SIt was hard to locate.
Kenneth RI scheduled a 15ft truck on 2/19 to be picked up on 2/29 from a dealer 1 mile from my condo. I received a voice mail and email from U-Haul on 2/28 stating my chosen location didn’t have a 15ft truck so I would have to drive 10 miles south to another dealer. Except for a few extra miles on the truck, that’s really no big deal. But what kind of logistics system does U-Haul have if they schedule a pickup 10 days ahead and can’t plan to have a truck available there? Here is where it gets interesting. U-Haul originally gave me a $276 discount when I reserved it, if I would drive the truck to their preferred location when returning it. The dealer where I picked up the truck said they couldn’t do that because I would have to pick up the truck in Orlando (80 miles away). Why would the main company offer a discount and the dealer would not honor it? Why should the dealer decide my discount and place to return the truck when I already had done than? A extra $100 is going to kill me. But this is the usual “bait and switch” often used by too many companies. Someone needs to hold these people accountable for these scams.
