Your customer service and policies both need improvement. I rented a DC2332K truck on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the U-Haul location located at 13151 Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The purpose for my rental was to pick up Girl Scout cookies for my Girl Scout troup. The total trip was not more than 10 miles and did not exceed two hours. When I returned the truck, to the rental location, I was greeted by an employee by a cool "What's up?" Excuse, me? I am not your employee's friend. Perhaps you could do some training on common customer courtesy and how to greet customers properly. The same employee then notified me that I would need to either put gas in the truck or pay the $30 fuel charge because the needle was SLIGHTLY below 1/4 tank, and it was documented that it was at 1/4 tank at check out. A 10 mile trip uses that much gas?! I went to put gas in the truck and put a whole of 2 gallons to bring the fuel gage back to 1/4 tank. At 5 m.p.g. perhaps U-Haul could invest in some more fuel efficient trucks. At the gas station, I discovered the employee failed to close the back door before I left to go put gas in the truck. Luckily, there was nothing in the back. Nevertheless, I consider that to be very dangerous and careless on your employee's behalf. Upon my return, I tell him the same employee that my trip was really unnecessary because I only added two gallons. He replied with a snide remark that two gallons worth of gas is more than half of the salary of a person who makes minimum wage. He then proceeds to talk about how the government takes all of his salary through taxes. Again, it is inappropriate for an employee to argue with a customer and to express needlessly his opinion. I was also charged the milage to go to the gas station! In addition to the poor customer service, the equipment was not safe. There was too much play in the steering wheel, which made operation of the truck difficult. I have had poor experiences with U-Haul in the past. Things have clearly not changed, and perhaps gotten worse. It will be a long time until I give U-Haul my business again. There is simply no value in the service provided and the employees' attitudes render the experience quite unpleasant. I would like a call from your district manager, please.
