I copy below my e-mail communication to U-Haul noting deceitful behaviour and wrongful charges, and my demand for a refund: Greetings U-Haul: Recently I rented a cargo van from U-Haul. I dropped it off after hours at the rental location. The receipt for the rental was recently sent to me by e-mail, and it is attached. I dispute the charges. And I am angry at the deceptive and corrupt practices of U-Haul. WRONGFUL CDW Coverage Charge Firstly, I dispute the charge listed as “Coverage: CDW $15.00”. I did NOT choose the coverage. I reserved the rental online. On its website, U-Haul configures the rental process so that the $15.00 CDW box is pre-checked. This in itself is deceptive. Because I have had experience with this in the past, paid close attention and was careful to un-check the CDW box. After several more clicks in the process, I noticed that the box was checked again. Again I un-checked the CDW box. When I arrived at the U-Haul rental outlet, Def Truck Auto Repair Inc., I was given a green-colored slip of paper to sign, without any explanation as to what I was signing for. I asked. I was told that my signature would confirm the choice of the CDW charge. I told the agent, no, I specifically decided NOT to choose the CDW. He said, no, you chose it. I reaffirmed that I had not. I told him that during online reservation I saw that the CDW box was pre-checked, and I specifically un-checked the box, and that I had done this twice, and that U-Haul’s website is set up to be deceptive to customers as to the choice of this CDW charge. The agent seemed annoyed with me. (I suspected that the agent gets a cut or some sort of commission from these CDW charges, which gives him an incentive to collude with U-Haul to deceive customers into unwittingly choosing to pay this charge..) Grumpily, the agent changed the reservation to show that I had NOT chosen the CDW coverage. I was given a different slip to sign, colored yellow, that stated that I had not chosen CDW coverage. A digital scan of that slip is attached. On the letter-sized rental document printed out at the counter, the agent by hand crossed out the CDW $15.00 charge. A digital scan of that document is attached. Now, on the receipt just sent to me, it shows that I have been charged $15.00 for the CDW coverage. This is outrageous. I DEMAND THAT U-HAUL REFUND TO ME THE WRONGLY-CHARGED $15.00 PLUS TAX. WRONGFUL FUEL CHARGE Secondly, I dispute what appears to be a charge for gasoline. I see a line item in the totals column on the receipt a charge for $8.10 identified as “EZ Fuel Sales: 1.8 gal.” The receipt fails to explain this charge. I assume that it purports to charge me for a shortfall in gasoline between the level in the tank at time of rental and the level in the tank at time of return. But there was no shortfall. At time of rental, the agent specifically stated, and I specifically noted, that the tank level was “a little above 3/8.” Just b

Stop hiding fees. This is insane! A "$30" rental ended up costing me nearly $250. Absurd. Will never use again.

I couldn’t find a parking spot for the van.

I made a reservation online. My reservation was changed to a different location. After resolving that issue, I was given a different truck from the original location. I picked up the truck. It reaked of cigarettes and there was a can of opened beer in the truck. Horrible experience.

I gassed the truck to the marking I agreed to pay drove it around the corner backed into a not level parking spot gauge moved to 1/2 tank and got burned for $7.00 to fill again. I called customer service about this no results. Thanks

I arrived and the owner/manager of the location claimed that "my friend came, with my reservation information and name, and picked up the truck already." This was not true - I didn't give this reservation to anyone and the idea of someone "hacking my phone" to get a uhaul reservation is pretty unlikely. He said there were no uhauls for the day. Eventually I called uhaul, explained the situation, got rerouted a few times, and took over an hour to get a new reservation made for me.

my location was changed (i booked a location in another part of brooklyn) and I didn't receive any notification, and only found out when I showed up at the location that I booked the truck at. then I had to get a $25 cab to the location where they had my truck. Very dissapointed in this.

They rented me a 15' truck where the ignition key mechanism would not turn -- it was stuck and stuck and stuck; you had to try DOZENS of times to start the engine!! I came VERY close to giving up and leaving the truck to be picked up. WHY ARE YOU RENTING THIS TRUCK OUT?!! THE FACILITY HAS TOLD UHAUL THAT THIS TRUCK NEEDS TO BE SERVICED!!!!

Was charged $150 fee for mirror damage, even when we paid for safemove coverage. I’ve called 3+ times trying to speak with someone to be refunded and not been contacted yet.

Give these people newer 15 foot trucks! This one was not running very well (reduced power), and the air conditioning was weak.

The worker was very friendly and helpful. However we had an extremely difficult time finding parking for the Uhaul in the evening because all of the lots were full. Reserved spaces for Uhaul vehicles would have saved us an hour+ of our time after a long day of moving.
