Customer service at Sterlings has always been the best!


Although I didn't have issues with the site, I was not happy with having to drive 1hour 15 minutes to pick up the truck that wasn't the size I needed. I have to make another trip because the truck was unable to accommodate all of my things.

This was a truly terrible Pick-up experience and something that U-Haul needs to correct IMMEDIATELY. Anyone trying to protect again COVID needs to avoid this site at all costs. One of the reasons for selecting U-Haul was provision for pick-up and drop-off with no human contact, i.e., virus protection. INSTEAD the pick-up attendant could not have been worse in this regard. He initially walked right up to us in the parking lot and got inches away without any mask. After the extensive online checking procedure designed to eliminate face-to-face contact, the final step was to get a key from a special location. BUT the key was not left in the "slot" for us to retrieve; it was never put there. Instead, I was forced to go into the office so he could hand me the key. Absolutely no protections efforts in any way. When I commented, "I am surprised U-Hail is not requiring customer assistance by requiring at least a face mask", his response was, "I don't work for U-Haul and I can wear whatever I like." Were it not for our absolute need for a truck at the time, I would have just walked away and trashed the rental. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE and now I have to wait weeks to know if his callousness actually resulted in my having an infection. The odds are low, I understand, but that does not lessen the anxiety that now prevails.

The roll up door didn't stay up. It almost rolled down on a workers head. Someone had to hold it open the whole time the truck was being unloaded. When I told the person who checked the truck in acted like it was so no big deal. It was a big it was a safety hazard

The sign above the key drop for after hours asked for a copy of the contract in addition to the key. But I only had one copy and needed it for my own records. When I checked out online, it just said to leave the key. For clarity, maybe the sign could be revised. I almost left to go to a store and make a copy which would have been stressful and unnecessary considering we were exhausted from our long distance move. I did, however, appreciate the convenience of after hours drop off.

Told the person checking my vehicle in that the driver side headlight was burnt out and the windshield wipers we're pulling apart and needed to be replaced. Not sure if they put that down or if issue was taken care of.

Do not understand how or why I was charged for additional miles. Picked up truck Stopped on way to livermore to load, then stopped at Tri-Valley quarter midget club to unload. Both directly off the highway to the destination. Stopped for gas right a mile away from drop off location. Got gas have receipt. Picked it up full dropped it off full. Filled it up with 6 gallons of gas. NO WAY!! could I have driven 50 extra miles. When I dropped it off, they just said you are good to go without checking in the truck. Is this how it works. Just drop off no check in, then get charged additional miles with no way to dispute or discuss it. I will use Budget or Enterprise from now on.
