When I entered the location to pick up the trailer that had been reserved the day before, the lady behind the counter had never processed a reserved UHaul before. That wasn't a problem, I expected her to be slower getting it set up. The problem was with the guy who came over to help her. He made it seem as if I was an inconvenience and that he really did not want me to rent the trailer. I'm assuming he was either having a bad morning or judging me on my appearance (long hair/unshaven). He asked me my address as well as the address that I was moving to as well as what exactly I would be using the trailer to haul. I explained that I wasn't moving to another address but just taking some stuff to be shipped out. He asked again what I was moving and where to. While I wasn't shipping anything private, this is none of his or your companies concern. I am responsible for what is in that trailer and getting the trailer returned to you in good condition. Once he gave up on his interrogation he took a look at the car and said, "You cant rent a U-Haul trailer without electrical hookups." I explained, "The electrical is in the trunk so that it wont get damaged and went to pop the trunk." He quickly said, "Well, you need a ball hitch, not just a tow hitch mounted on the car." So I replied, "The ball hitch is in the trunk so that it wont get stolen" and popped the trunk. He sighed and said, "Okay then you have to pay a deposit." This was after the paperwork inside had been completed. I went back inside and paid a deposit (which was double the rental cost) in cash after they had already taken my credit card info. At this point he told me that I needed to sign the trailer inspection form to show that I agreed it was rented out in good condition without damages. I explained that I had not seen the trailer yet. I was told, "Just sign it and he will show you the trailer before you hook it up." I decided to add the insurance (which I asked about) just in case they tried to screw me over and give me a broken trailer. I went out and backed my car up to the trailer. He attached it but left the chains and wires hanging down really low (in the past the uhaul people have adjusted the chains so that they would not drag... I did so with the wires but left the chains as he had attached them.) He never walked around the trailer with me. Just hooked it up and walked away. I opened the trailer to find it unswept with broken plastic Easter eggs and dirt. I cleaned it out myself once I got to my house. Returning the trailer went fine though. It was a different crew and the young man who helped me was quick and friendly. He asked to drive my car so that he could back the trailer in. I explained that it could easily be moved the six feet by hand since the trailers are balanced. I lifted the trailer and showed him. He helped me move it into place (which wasn't necessary since they are easy to move). The inexperience is understandable but the rudeness of the employee (Randy) was not.
