I just wanted to document what my experience was when I rented a 5 x 8 enclosed trailer for 11 days. When I opened door on back, the spring had sprung and door was stuck in open position. Trailer also had some garbage inside. I took trailer back to rental to exchange. They apologized and gave me a different trailer. Hooked it up new trailer and checked lights. Drove trailer home and my vehicle kept telling me there was a problem with left turn signal. Once I got home, I checked the left turn signal again and it wasn’t working. I looked under trailer at the wiring and noticed a wire had slipped out where it was spliced together. I re-spliced it and it started working. During use for trip, my vehicle would now tell me there was a problem with the right turn signal and then it would be fine. I believe it had loose connection and but had to stop multiple times to verify it was working. When I returned the trailer a day early, I told them I had problems with lighting and had to spliced one wire for the left turn signal but not sure what was going on with the other one. They just said that was fine and I unhooked and moved it to spot they wanted. Credit was properly given for the 1 day early return

When I was loading I discovered that the overhead door wouldn’t open all the way so it was difficult to get a couple items load. Also had to tie the door down with a wire to keep it closed for the return trip
GEORGE O BRIENIn the overall I would rate this location as lazy. It has been a few years since I required the use of a rental, but this occasion reminds me of why I used Penske primarily. The attendant at pick up was lazy, the truck smelled completely of marijauna all day, and the $20 charge/process of after hours dropoff was ridiculous.

I paid my fees drove 2 hrs away to pick up my things and they still had a lock on it. When i finally got in my storage after calling the store manager which i waited for a hour and some my tv was broken. Overall experience was horrible and Uhaul can never get my money again.

WILBERT BRUNERI think it would be helpful for those who create reservations to have their vehicles brought up to the front and have it waiting in the lot closest to the door instead of way far other end of the lot. Today I had to trek across the parking lot and clean the ice off the windows. Definitely doesn’t give a great customer service experience. The location on N Bruns will bring the vehicle up for you.

JEROME JOHNSONThe exhaust fan is rattling like it's going to fall apart The lights are doing the same because of the van the ceilings paving in the place is dangerous it's not safe to be in your storage unit on clear lake in Springfield Illinois also you're trying to tell me I owe money for damaged door The door was damaged when I got there I got your service manager from the repair shop to come over and look at it One door was already like cockeyed a foot higher on one side halfway down and the one I was trying to access had to trim falling off the bottom of the door the seal and your service manager told me to try and back up anyway I did not damage the door at all it was damaged when I got there I do not owe anything at all I also be removing my stuff from your storage area and not continuing to use your facility but you trying to fleece me out of money I do not owe and the building being so unsafe those lights can fall at any time I'm a maintenance engineer with many different certifications and I know the dangers of the situation in your building and will also call the city or the disrepair and status of the building

Kelly MatthewsThe guy who hooked up the trailer and checked everything was very nice and pleasant. I learned a few thing that I didn't know about hooking it up and I have used trailers many times. The only problem I thought might somehow be addressed is, I thought there was too much tire pressure in the tires. The trailer was bouncing around like a basketball too much even though I was driving on Illinois highways. I was carrying a pinball machine that weighed about 250 lbs and I crossed my fingers that it would still be in one piece when I reached my destination.

cynthia DanielsThis was the worst rental process I have ever had. The app kept crashing while trying to check in, it put two charges on my bank account instead of one… I used the “chat” feature to try and get some help but all the person ended up saying was that I would have to call my bank and handle it myself…. after going through all the headaches with the app I assumed I could get the key on the truck itself but instead it said to go inside for the “skip the line” counter and there was NO skip the line counter. Not enough help in the building and a line waiting for help. When I got to a counter they could not even find my reservation. They had to switch computers and then found my order. When I finally got the truck key and started it the check engine light was on. The return process was no easier as the app again kept crashing and I ended up having to go in the building to find someone to help me again. I still have to work on getting the additional and incorrect charge off of my account. I would not recommend U-Haul to anyone and I certainly will not ever use them again.
Lynn NeffWe showed at 7am to pick up the truck by mobile app could not get it to work so then we go inside. Blonde headed manger tells us that we may not be able to gat our truck cause of the system being down so we had to stand there and wait. Manager is being very unprofessional going back and forth with employees, it was just total chaos! I’ll be honest this is our second time dealing with this location and both times have been a nightmare. Just the unprofessionalism with the employee, down to our equipment NEVER being ready or on time. Then we asked for a utility dolly that was supposed to be in the truck, no my fiancé had to drag it across the other side of the parking lot after the manager brought it out to us. She had us leaving at 715am on paper and to return our truck by 715am Saturday when we didn’t even get our truck and out of there til 735am. Again just never a good experience at this location. Not to mention gas always states it has more than it does so we have to dispute that, not sure how it’s so hard for that to be correct.
Kelli FickasThe first thing is on the contract there was a different truck with a different gas reading. I called the office. They did take care of that. I then return the truck and told the clerk Melissa that I had boxes for the buyback program 11 large. She asked me if I had a receipt, I explain to her that I bought these boxes well over a year ago and did not have the receipt I have the name and that was it. She told me there was no way she could buy them back and was very rude.
Trisha ClarkCustomer service was pathetic. Wasn't acknowledged when i entered the store. Stood there for over 5 minutes listening to 3 employees gossip in the back room. The guy who came out to "help" us had an attitude and was rude. After getting the key they sent us out to find the truck on our own. Very unhappy with the service i received and i wont be back.

He went over to South 6th street and brought over my daughters uhaul moving box to the Clear lake location where we were going to store her belongings. He went above and beyond. And then the day we came to unload he moved the box where we could unload it easier with where her storage unit was located. The only negative I found is they don’t clean the storage unit floors very well- she had papers and misc small items in her unit before we unloaded. The floors throughout the storage facility don’t look like they’re ever washed- they are swept - just don’t look very clean. It would also be nice to have a garbage can for when we need to throw away things that are left by other people. Instead we took them home and threw them away. But otherwise we were pleased and would use the facility again.

My first phone inquiry and encounter at this location was horrendous. Very poor customer service and phone interaction, and absolutely uninformed. I honestly didn’t want to rent here at that point. At some point I figured I’d just swing through and see what the deal was…that’s when we met Deangelo and Melissa! He was awesome! Totally went out of his way to interact and answer any concerns. He showed us around and treated us like VALUED customers! After a short time, my concerns had diminished and I felt glad to be there. He is management material! Melissa too was very friendly and accommodating…she was obviously swamped with work after being without power and suffering the managerial duties of storm recovery! She was working it BIG TIME! I feel much more comfortable using this service having met them both! Thanks!

We only access our unit 3 times a year, when we entered the building the building was open. The manager said that he had a video that he turned over to the police department and the police told me that no video was turned over. I feel that they could of been a little bit more helpful with this matter and they were not. Told me that they couldn't tell me that last time my code was used. Why would they say there was a video but nothing was turned over to the police. I feel that they have something to hide.

Once blocked the truck so I couldn't get it out of parking lot someone stole the keys out of truck at the apartment I was renting they told me I had to go to another place to order keys which cost a lot of money and I talked to someone else that make keys for U-Haul and he made the key at no cost to me so that guy was trying to get extra money out of me no I would not recommend that place on clearlake in Springfield Ill to no one and I will not trade their anymore. I had COVID when I lost my storage laying in a hospital so you mean there was no concern for that .

There was white ceiling power and flakes all over everything. The other thing that upset us is that we put furniture in there that had nothing wrong with it and now we are finding cockroaches in it. I am sure they came from other units since the ceiling of every indoor unit is open for any bug from other units to infest everyone else's unit. The employees were extremely friendly and helpful and we will still recommend the business to others. We were impressed with how clean the floors were and would see an employee cleaning each time we were there to move the items in and out. Thank you for your kindness to us, we will use U-Haul in the future if we need storage or truck rental.

On separate ovations I was charged for the wrong unit, over charged, after paying in full every month my unit was put up for auction “accidentally”. That was fixed and then my lock was changed by Uhal and no one had the code to get me in when I was trying to clear out.

wallace wilkons | Overall ExperienceOn 7/9 at approximately 3:45pm I arrived at the Clear Lake location in Springfield, IL. My husband, I and my father were greeted by a store associate by the name of “Fate”. We informed him that I had a reservation for a 10x20 storage unit. He looked by reservation by name and informed me that he could not locate my reservation. He then asked for my phone number and was then able to locate the reservation. He then asked me for my ID and a 2nd point of contact for the storage unit. After giving that information he informed me that they did not have any 10x20 units available but he could see there were two 10x10 units close by each other. It took him about 30 mins to locate a couple 10x10 units but was unable to merge them together in the system. We went to look at the units to ensure they were clean and empty. Upon coming back into the store he informed us that for some reason the system was not letting him book me for one of the units. He then began searching again but was only able to show smaller units. He then stated he located two units but one was smaller than the other. Be advised an hour and half already gone by and my husband and father had left because they were frustrated with the situation. He then sat back in front of the computer after I informed him that the units that were on the contract were not the units that we looked at. I told him that I would feel more comfortable with two 10x10 units. During that time another associate whose name I did not get an opportunity to ask, asked me what size unit I needed. I informed her that I needed two 10x10 units next to each other. She immediately got on her computer and located units 1050 and 1052 with in a matter of 2 minutes. She assisted Fate in place those units in my name and I was out of there in 5 mins. I was so upset because the entire process took 2 hours and 15 mins with “Fate” that took the young lady all of 5 mins to complete. I was also upset with the fact that we reserved a 10x20 unit a week in advance only because not have it available to us upon arrival. We are a military family that drove all the way from Kansas to Illinois with two small children just to have this inconvenient situation occur. My husband is still very upset about it and is asking that UHaul give the 2nd month of storage free for the inconvenience.

When you purchase a storage online they give you 2 options and I chose option (pay now) so that I could have everything ready to move my things in. Once I got to my unit, I realized I didn’t have a lock which was an option I chose so I could have everything ready. Well that wasn’t the case I had to ask someone for assistance and they both were completely clueless and kept saying idk what to do. I can’t give you something that we don’t have which was completely rude!!!!!!! I was trying to get in and out. I had to spend more money for something that was included in the option that I chose. If a lock is going to be included this is something that should ALWAYS be in stock to avoid any mishaps and unwanted rude customer service.

Very inconvenient considering I was out of town when I received the call and had to have someone else move thr boat. I was offered another facility at 3x the price I was paying but declined. Very unprofessional.
