Nissan Rogue (2014 - 2020) hitch installation steps

1. Check for paneling

Some Nissan Rogue models have plastic panels underneath the vehicle on the passenger and driver side that must be removed before the hitch can be installed. If your Rogue has these panels, both can be taken off by hand by removing the plastic clips holding it in place.

2. Lower the exhaust

The exhaust is held in place by three isolator rods inside rubber exhaust hangers. Before lowering the exhaust, tie a rope or strap around the exhaust and attach it to a sturdy component under the car for support. Once it’s secure, push the three rods out of the hangers using the exhaust pliers. You may need to lubricate the rods with soapy water before removing them.

3. Remove the tow hook

Use the 18mm socket to remove the tow hook, which is located on the passenger side near the rear of the vehicle. The tow hook is supported by four bolts connected to the frame. Unscrew the bolts and store them and the tow hook in a safe place. You won’t be reinstalling them.

4. Position the hitch

With the exhaust lowered and paneling removed (if necessary), raise the hitch into position and secure it to the frame using the 18mm socket and provided hex bolts and conical washers. Secure the bolts to the weld nuts at five locations on the frame rail: three on the passenger side where the tow hook was, and two on the driver side.

5. Torque the hitch

With the hitch in position, torque the bolts using the torque wrench to 48 ft. lb. The wrench should make a clicking sound after the correct amount of torque is applied.

6. Raise the exhaust

Return the isolator rods to the rubber exhaust hangers. This can be done by hand or with the exhaust pliers. You may need to use a lubricant again. Be sure to remove the support rope or strap.

Once installed, the hitch will measure:

  • 14 in. from the receiver to the ground
  • 5 in. from the pinhole to the end of the bumper
  • 2 ½ in. from the end of the receiver to the bumper
