Lets face it, nobody likes paying for gas and typically the bigger vehicle you drive, the more you have to pay at the pump.   And while the thought of putting gas in a 26 ft box truck<\/a> can be scary, the folks at U-Haul have developed a number of fuel-saving truck features that have been added to their trucks to keep a few more bucks in your wallet.<\/p>\n

Fuel Saving Truck Features<\/p><\/div>\n

While many people think of a moving truck as just a box on wheels, U-Haul’s research and development team has gone over every inch of their trucks in order to find ways to reduce wind drag and fuel consumption.  While some features may be obvious, others might catch you by surprise and I guarantee after reading through the list you won’t look at U-Haul truck the same.<\/p>\n

Patented Aerodynamic High Visibility Mirrors<\/strong>:  The side view mirrors on U-Haul trucks have been specifically designed to increase visibility and create less wind drag on the road.<\/p>\n

\"Moving<\/a>

An example of the fuel economy gauge available in U-Haul rental trucks.<\/p><\/div>\n

Fuel Economy Gauge<\/strong>:  You can find this feature inside the cab on the dashboard.  The gauge allows you to determine which speed provided the best miles per gallon.  This can save you up to 25% of your fuel intake.<\/p>\n

Properly Inflated Radial Tires<\/strong>:  I told you some features were going to be obvious but proper tire inflation really does make a difference in fuel consumption, especially on the long hauls.  Every U-Haul Truck is inspected for proper inflation before it goes out on rentals and this feature can save you up to 3% of your gas bill.<\/p>\n

Advanced Chassis Skirts:  <\/strong>These skirts reduce turbulent air from forming underneath the trucks and creating drag. This feature increases aerodynamics and improves fuel economy based on U-Hauls patented design.<\/p>\n

Low Deck Height:  <\/strong>A lower to the ground deck height creates a lower overall profile for the truck and reduces wind resistance thus increasing better fuel economy.<\/p>\n

Rounded Corners on Cargo Extrusions:<\/strong>  The rounded corners on the cargo boxes help air move around the large edges of the trucks and reduce drag, therefore, increasing fuel economy by the improving aerodynamics.<\/p>\n
