This includes an inspection of your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhaul.com\/Truck-Rentals\/?utm_campaign=uhaulsm&amp;utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=trucks&amp;utm_content=20140422-thingstodobefore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moving truck <\/a>BEFORE you drive it.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t to say you need to get down on your hands and knees or crawl under the truck. There are several things you can check over in just a few minutes, and many truck rental companies will do this walk-around with you. After all, you don\u2019t want to be charged for a dent that was already there when you picked up the truck. Be on the lookout for:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nicks<\/li>\n<li>Scratches<\/li>\n<li>Dents<\/li>\n<li>Broken glass<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Check the fuel and mileage<\/h3>\n<p>Many trucks don\u2019t get sent out with a full tank of gas; whatever your fuel level, your <a href=\"https:\/\/movinginsider.com\/2014\/02\/21\/how-to-read-your-rental-contract\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rental contract<\/a> should report the correct amount. Don\u2019t drive off until you turn on the engine and double-check this. But there\u2019s nothing wrong with checking them yourself just to be sure, especially if you\u2019re driving a long way. Before driving off, find all of the switches for the lights, turn signals, A\/C and heat, radio dials, windshield wipers, etc. Also, open and close the cargo door so you know how to properly latch it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z-mT3cH47Qw&amp;list=PL023786C1FEAFE54C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pull out the loading ramp <\/a>and adjust all of the mirrors.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a few minutes before you leave the rental company\u2019s lot will come in handy while you\u2019re on the road.
