We live in the age of social media and sharing nearly every detail of our lives online. When it comes to sharing your cross-country move\u2014one of the biggest adventures of your life\u2014you\u2019ll want to make sure you choose the right online platform.<\/p>\n

With all the different social media options out there, it can be hard to narrow down which method would be best to share your move. So, before you load your moving truck<\/a>, here\u2019s a list that may help you decide. For now, I\u2019m going to focus on sharing mediums that will serve as a lasting narrative of your adventure. (So, you won\u2019t see Snapchat on this list because of its temporary design.)<\/p>\n

Blogging platforms<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re looking to tell a more detailed story about your moving adventure, a blog may be the perfect fit.<\/p>\n

Blogger<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blogger<\/a> is owned by Google and ties in easily with your Google email account. You have the ability to upload posts and photos from a mobile device with the Blogger app. You can add Google AdSense to your blog if you want to make a little money through advertisements. But, don\u2019t expect much in the beginning. You\u2019ll be lucky if you make enough to pay for a tank of gas.<\/p>\n

WordPress<\/strong><\/p>\n

WordPress<\/a> also has a good mobile app that allows for posting on the go. Advertisements on WordPress blogs are limited to users with moderate to high traffic and acceptable content at this time. So, if you\u2019re looking to make some money, this might not be the route you want to go. However, there seems to be a stronger sense of community with posts on WordPress if you tag your posts.<\/p>\n

Tumblr<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tumblr<\/a> is considered a \u201cmicroblogging\u201d platform. There is a mobile app for posting while traveling. The dashboard of your Tumblr account will show you a chronological time line of posts by anyone you follow. Tagging posts is a must if you want your posts to be read by the Tumblr community. This is probably the most social of the three blogging platforms mentioned.<\/p>\n

Visual Platforms<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re more of a talker\/picture taker than a writer, than you probably want to look into one of these options to share your cross-country move.<\/p>\n

YouTube<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you want to vlog (video log\/blog) your moving adventure, YouTube<\/a> is the place to do it. You can tag videos so that they will show up in the people\u2019s YouTube searches, if you want to share your move with the world. Or, you can set a video to private and simply email the link to specific people. There is a mobile app to upload videos. Remember to turn your phone to the horizontal position before recording. Just say \u201cno\u201d to vertical video!<\/p>\n

\"uhaulfamous\"Instagram<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDo it for the Insta.\u201d (Yeah, that\u2019s a real expression.) Instagram<\/a> is a super easy way to share pictures and short, 15-second videos of your cross-country move. You can set your account to public or private. If you have a private account, only people who you\u2019ve allowed access will be able to see your pictures and videos. You can also tag your content to show up in the hashtag searches of other users. Instagram also works well with many social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr, which allows you to share your pictures and videos across multiple social media sites.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are many other social media platforms for sharing your cross-country move, but these are some options to consider outside of more popular options like Facebook and Twitter. And, whichever you choose, remember to use the hashtag #uhaulfamous<\/a> so we can cheer you on along the way.<\/p>\n
