As gas prices get fat again this summer, your wallet will soon start getting skinnier. Living close to work, you can ride the bus, light rail, train, carpool or whatever public transportation system runs in your city. This will be much cheaper than wasting gas in stand-still traffic, and sometimes companies offer major discounts for yearly transit passes. Be sure to ask your HR department about these passes!

Time

Time is money, and money is time, so when you have to spend an extra 3 hours commuting to work and trying to find parking, you essentially lose money. You could better spend this time on yourself or your family. Your children will appreciate you helping them with their homework or cheering them on at their football game. Or if you live by yourself, think of all the Netflix you can watch now! You will also have more time to get ready and get much-needed sleep.

Health

The time you save on commuting can be spent at the gym or prepping healthy meals instead of going through a fast food drive-thru. According to the Mayo Clinic, an adult should do at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity a week. Living close to work also allows you to ride your bike or even walk to work when the weather permits.

Flexibility

With more time on your hands, you can be more flexible both at home and at work. Now, you will be closer to your home in case of an emergency or if you need to pick up your child from school early. You can also pick up extra hours or projects at work.

Find jobs near you by visiting uhauljobs.com!

For more job-hunting tips and tricks, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn!

There are only so many hours a day, and the modern working class must know how to use these hours wisely to balance their lives. Whether you work in the suburbs or the city, living close to work has many benefits.
