If you’ve recently moved to the\u00a0Living in the Valley of the Sun<\/a>\u00a0then you’re aware of these three things: there is no escaping the sun, there is an abundance of swimming pools and wherever you are, and you will always be in sight of cacti and palm trees. (Even though palm trees aren’t native to Arizona.) Have no fear, though; although the heat here is extreme, it allows residents to enjoy a variety of activities under the sun. If you are a new Phoenician, keep some of these things in mind:<\/p>\n

\"living<\/a><\/h4>\n

Climate-controlled storage<\/h4>\n

If you plan on putting your belongings in storage, opt for a climate-controlled unit<\/a>. This will protect your items from the extreme Arizona heat. Consider using self-storage for seasonal items such as sweaters and\u00a0holiday items.<\/p>\n

Where to live<\/h4>\n

Phoenix is unlike other big cities and is fairly spread out. When deciding where to live, figure out the type of lifestyle that fits you. Phoenix is made up of many different neighborhoods. If you consider yourself a city dweller, search for a home between 7th St. and 7th Ave stretching between the I-17 and the I-10. This area is considered central Phoenix. On the outskirts, lies the suburbs. For those, looking for a home with a little extra room, a garage and a yard, start your search here. If you’re into a little of both, Phoenix has little pockets all over the city with all\u00a0different styles of homes.<\/p>\n

\"Living<\/a>Getting around<\/h4>\n

As mentioned before, the city of Phoenix is spread out. When living in Phoenix, you will need a car to get around. If that is not an option, use public transportation or the light rail system. The light rail expands from 19th Ave and Montebello to Sycamore & Main, that’s Central Phoenix to East Mesa. The light rail is also extending within the years to come also. Another alternative is carsharing. Look into car sharing services to get around the city.<\/p>\n

What to do for fun<\/h4>\n

In the recent years, Phoenix has become a hub for business and pleasure. The food scene has boomed; new restaurants and bars are popping up on every corner. Need to be one with the outdoors? Check out some of Phoenix’s many hiking trails. Some popular ones are in the South Mountain and Camelback Mountain area. Always remember to bring water and sunscreen. And if you’re escaping the sun, give the spas in North Phoenix a go. As an evolving city, there are new things to do every day, be on the lookout for this! Sports fan? Downtown is where Chase Field and the Talking Stick Resort Arena (previously known as U.S. Airways) lives.\u00a0If nothing else, lounge around in the sun and enjoy living the life of a Phoenician. And again don’t forget the sunscreen!<\/p>\n
