I came across a story\u00a0recently about a clock shop in Hannibal, Missouri that\u2019s refurbishing an old grandfather clock that belonged to the family of Laura Hawkins. She was Mark Twain\u2019s childhood sweetheart and served as the inspiration for Becky Thatcher in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The clock guys had to take apart the grandfather clock\u2014believed to be about 200 years old\u2014and pack it and move it from the Mark Twain Museum to their shop across the street. As I looked at the story\u2019s photos and video<\/a>, I couldn\u2019t help but think how nervous I\u2019d be taking apart something so old and irreplaceable, then packing it up and moving it. They obviously took great care to make sure everything made it to the shop intact.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the same as packing up everything in your home and moving it. You might not be moving a 200-year-old clock that has great historical significance, but your stuff is priceless to you, so you want to do all you can to protect it. And thankfully, gone are the days when everything had to go into \u201cone-size-fits-all\u201d boxes.<\/p>\n

\"timeThere are so many specialized boxes available for moving and storage these days. There are boxes made to fit all sizes of mirrors and picture frames<\/a>, boxes with dividers to protect dishes<\/a> or wine bottles, and boxes for golf clubs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

U-Haul even sells boxes designed specifically for flat-screen TVs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When you pick up some specialty boxes for your move, don\u2019t forget the bubble wrap<\/a>, packing peanuts<\/a>, wrapping paper<\/a> and other protective moving items<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
