I recently rented a 9’ cargo van from U-Haul. The good news: the van was new (just 1400 miles), somewhat clean inside (grass clippings under the mat) but dirty outside. I cleaned the windshield when I got home. We did drive to our destination and return home safely. Unfortunately, the amount of time problem solving the many mistakes and rude 1-800 customer service from Shonna (not sure of the spelling) will cause my wife and I to think twice about renting from U-Haul in the future. My wife made reservations on August 30 for a 9’ cargo van from the Fresno Store – 6116 N. Blackstone for the following day. We were explicitly told to arrive at 7:45 p.m. On August 31, we arrived early at 7:30 . Unfortunately, the store closed at 7:00 p.m. We got the attention of the assistant manager Hernandez. We told him U-Haul made reservations for us at 7:45 and we would like our 9 foot cargo van. He told us he couldn't. The store was closed, the computers were shut down, he was counting money, and he wanted to go home. We told him we were there per the instructions received from U-Haul. We told Hernandez we expected U-Haul to honor their promise. Hernandez told us “No” - he wanted to go home. He told us our only option was to file a complaint with U-Haul. In fact, he gave us the number to call to make the complaint. Nice We left discouraged. Our moving plans were going nowhere. I called the 1-800 number at 7:34 pm. Eventually, I talked to Paul. Great guy. He tried to help. Unfortunately, it was getting close to 8:00 pm and I no longer had options. However, Paul told me he would enter a note in the computer allowing me two extra hours without charge (26 hours instead of 24). Feeling somewhat dubious about U-Hauls ability to correct this mistake, I called back at 9:47 and talked to Shonna (?) to confirm I still had a van reserved. Shonna’s tone was sharp, unfriendly, and did not indicate willingness to problem solve. I handed the phone to my wife as she made the initial reservation. Within minutes, I could hear Mary softly asking Shonna to calm down and just answer her questions. Shonna was loud enough to be heard by everyone in the room. Not a good night to be calling Shonna! Couple of suggestions. First, being given the right time to pick up a van would be a good start. Second, when we showed up, I expected Fresno U-Haul to fix it. Hernandez encouraging us to make a complaint indicates poor customer service training. What is more important – providing excellent customer service or going home on time? As for Shonna? She is a poor representative of U-Haul over the phone.

I rented a 17 ft truck from a close facility I rcvd a 14 causing me to take extra time and extra mileage the website says there is a guarantee and no one honors it this was an emergency move and uhaul took advantage of it

To improve I would suggest putting the old 26 foot trucks out to pasture and getting some equipment made on this side of world war 2. My truck was ridiculously loud, super slow, and made every road seem like Ford testing grounds. thanks

This place has horrible staffing. One person at the counter and a line out the door on a holiday weekend??? I also reserved a standard dolly and when I got there I was told none were available and that they would give me a furniture dolly for $3 more. Im 5 feet tall and the furniture dolly was too heavy and way too big for me. Dont ask us to reserve if your office cant accommodate the reservation!! The employer then threw the dolly in the truck without tying it down and it scared the hell out of me when I woukd stop or turn in any direction and it would slam against each wall of the truck. I asked for my money back on the dolly since I wasnt able to use it and the guy told me I would have to hold on a bit. Needless to say I held and stuck around for an hour only to be told they were too busy and couldnt get to me. Im furious!!

Customer service on the 1-800 number is absolutely horrible! The representive who reserved my truck was rude and showed no remorse nor did she offer something as simple as a free dolly when I my reservation was not available and I had to drive an additional 30 miles to pick up a smaller truck. She became short and once again was rude when I began questioning things. All of this done on Friday the day before, giving me NO time to arrange for alternate transportation.

The lines were always long, the mileage was off on the vehicle and they kept trying to push us giving them a return time when we rented it for 24 hours....if I'm running late, FYI....we are moving, that takes an unknown amount of time, please don't call me and remind me to bring the truck back when I've only had it for 6 hours.

Store manager was very helpful I was on a tight budget and she helped me get a 10 footer for the price I needed only spent 65$ in town including gas,mileage, taxes, and fees. I was able to move my one bedroom one bath in just one trip. Very satisfied.

The 20 feet truck had not enough horsepower to transport the furniture or the boxes inside it. A 17 hour drive from Fresno, Ca to Denver took 23 hours because of lack of power on the truck. I spent $700+ on gas alone, very frustrated, only on flat roads I managed to keep up with the speed limit, but on slight up-gads the top speed was about 50 mph.

Make sure the trucks are in proper working order and definitely make sure a new customer does not rent a truck that has no gas. Do not make the take in/take out times so close so the proper maintenance can be done before renting. Also, an employee should do a walk through with the customer before allowing the truck to leave the lot.

the staff was great. I did not appreciate getting a call from a company representative basically telling me that I might have the vehicle I reserved when I needed it. This wasn't the person's fault. it was obvious that UHaul overbooked. It was very upsetting, and it makes me doubt whether I will rent from you people again. and I have been a customer in the past. You business model needs to some serious reconsideration. Again, the staff at both locations were very helpful. You need to tighten up your operation.I have rented cars from one national company for more than 20 years, and I have never had such a problem.

There was a line (6 or 7 people) at the business counter and I stood there (along with several others) at least 25 minutes and the customers at the counters never left. Fortunately, an employee came in from the outside and checked me out. He was friendly and efficient. I appreciated the "rescue." I don't know how much longer it was until the people in line were taken care of, but you could tell the frustration was building. Perhaps additional employees during peak times would be appropriate.

Customer service for this location is appalling, and has been on more than one of my needs. It is consistently one of the worst customer service experiences I can have with a business. Convenience is the ONLY reason I choose this U-Haul, and location. It is interesting that your survey merely asks about location and equipment, and nothing about the service experience. In this area your company fails tremendously.
