In all the many years renting from U-haul I've never been forced to take the insurance. Because I did not carry physical proof of insurance I was made to accept it. I would have brought it with me had I known. This is not in keeping with the professionalism I've been used to over the years with the U-haul company.

The truck was new, only had 300 miles on it. The steering had a lot of play for a new truck.

We were going to move a very heavy piece of furniture using a rented appliance dolly. We rented a 10-foot truck. When we arrived at the house, we discovered that the truck had no ramp (apparently because it had a trailer hitch). I had no idea that you could even rent a moving truck that had no ramp. The fact that we were also renting an appliance dolly would certainly make it obvious that we were moving something heavy. Absolute incompetence. How can you rent trucks everyday, and not think this is important to mention? Also, we dropped of the truck after hours, and dropped the key in the designated slot as directed. The sign said (1) drop of a copy of your contract with the key; (2) use a lock to secure the truck and the rented items in it (such as the appliance dolly); (3) that we were responsible if something got stolen from the truck. Well, we were (1) not given a second copy of the contract; (2) were not given a lock; and (3) should not be responsible for stolen items if we were not given a lock. You must confuse and or piss off dozens of people a day with that sign.

The wait for a vehicle was about an hour, which is clearly unacceptable. Maybe a check-in kiosk for those with reservations could work.

I did all the pre-work on the website, thinking that this would speed up my experience; that was far from the truth. When I showed up there was a line which was moving very slowly. The worker at the register took forever, her phone was going off and she kept checking it. When I finally got the the register it took a really long time because two of the employees were chatting. I was finally given a truck, being told the has is 3/4 full, I climb into the truck and it's at empty. After a long time they finally gave me another truck (a bigger one, which is actually more of an inconvenience for me since this is DC). The truck was completely busted, it was scary driving it, I think the transmission was shot. All in all, it took about 45-50 minutes to actually drive out of the lot even though I did everything online ahead of time. This was a completely nightmare, it delayed my move and threw off my entire day.

Dwayne was very nice and had excellent customer service skills. My experience actually stared the the day before, Sat evening I call the number on the web site at first it was a recorded message. Finally a live person was on the phone I asked " what are the hours I could gain access to my storage unit" I was told the office hours are 7am. - 7pm but I could access my unit 24 hrs. I am not from the area (Los AngelesCA) Sat was the best and only time I could move my daughter items from storage. I arrived at the location(7:38) on K Street the loading dock was open lights on I pulled in at the loading dock as I was walking to the unit with the rolling stairs and cart a female employee came charging from the inside cashier area and open the door and said "What are you doing in here!!! In a very mean tone as if I broken into the building. We tried to explain that we called and was told the office close at 7 pm but we could gain access to our unit 24 hrs. She again snapped at me and told me "You didn't call here you need to leave". She interrupted me as I tried to explain to her that I needed to get my daughter items because that day (Sat) I had transportation I couldn't finish she rudely interrupted and said "I'm not dealing with this you need to leave " she turned around and went back into the cashier area. I have never experienced such rudeness and lack of customer service from a company that depend on customers in need of their service! I have a time stamped photo of the open dock with lights on that gives the impression the place is open for business. To be treated in such a way by that young lady was totally out of line. A young man was at the door and he took over after she walked away. He explained the situation and I left. Fast forward I'm back on Sunday in need to rent a truck to get my daughter items from her unit. Dwayne happen to be the person to service me. I mentioned I was there last night and he remembered and apologized for the rude young lady. Dwayne in my opinion has very excellent customer skills and the young lady could learn a lot from him!

I had my van reserved for 10am on a Sunday, and when I got in 10 minutes early, there was a very long line and only one person working at the counter. In the heavy moving months, it might be a good idea to have a few more people shifted earlier in the morning if there are a lot of reservations. Otherwise, a very painless experience!

The employees working did a fine job. But shame on you management for understaffing this location. I had to wait over 30 minutes in line to pickup my rental, even after pre-checking in. This delay really spiraled the rest of my day and I missed other appointments due to this. Staffing the front desk with one person on a busy Saturday morning is unacceptable. I will never visit this location again.

The hidden charges sure rediculous. When I deserved I was told if the fault rate and the mileage charges. When I got to the location the other charges were existed m explained. That should have been discussed during the reservation conversation.

The van smelled terrible. I was also told when I arrived that after hours drop off was not available because the lot was "full." When I dropped off the van the next morning, the guy who took it told me that this wasn't the case. Get your story straight please.

I'm really sorry about leaving the couch in the back. Service was great, friendly, and generally helpfully. only complaint was that it was understaffed inside the office. their was a long line and only one person working the front desk. Thanks!
