Decorating your home is the a great stage in your moving process where you can really make your home your own. Windows bring life into your home and how you decorate them will determine the tone of your new home. Here is what you need to know about drapes vs. blinds for your home.
Drapes
Function– Heavy drapes have the ability of blocking out most of the sunlight coming in which will give up a good night’s rest and keep your home cooler during the day. Drapes will also provide your home utmost privacy.
Style– With drapes you can be creative and as inexpensive as you want by being able to choose the size, material, color and style.
Cleaning- Drapes accumulate dust and dirt which means you have to bring them down every so often to vacuum and/or dry clean them. Washing your drapes too often will cause the material to fade so you have to be careful or be prepared to buy new ones about twice a year.
Installation- All you need to install drapes on your own are screws, a curtain rod and a power drill. If you rather not make holes in the walls of your new home, invest in twist-and-fit curtain rods.
Blinds
Function– Blinds are easy to adjust with a simple twist in the wrist. This functionality let’s you be as precise as you want about how much sunlight you want to let into your home.
Style- Although blinds are usually more practical in functionality than drapes, but also more plain.
Cleaning- Blinds are relatively easier to clean than drapes; you can either wipe off each slat individually or use a duster to quickly wipe off the blinds.
Installation- Unlike drapes you are more likely to need a professional to install your blinds throughout your new home. The Home Depot and Lowe’s both offer services to help you install blinds. Some homes and apartments already come furnished with blinds.
