According to visitphilly.com, Philadelphia is broken up into 21 neighborhoods. Here’s a look at a handful of those here:

  • Logan Square – home to many of the city’s famous attractions
  • Bella Vista – a family orientated neighborhood 1st settled by Italians
  • Callowhill – a trendy area, also called, the Loft District with modern high rises
  • Fishtown – for the young and creative
  • Graduate Hospital – a neighborhood for families with great bars and eats
  • Market East – home to Reading Terminal Market and the gateway to the entertainment district
  • Northern Liberties – a progressive neighborhood with unique bars, eats and shops
  • University City – home of University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, you’ll get a cultural experience in this area

What to Do

Living in Philadelphia means you have access to a fantastic cultural experience- culinary, art, and more. If food is your thing, be sure to enjoy city staples like the soft pretzel, water ice, Tastycakes, cheesesteaks, and hoagies. Explore your neighborhood for local fare; This blog post can help you find a great restaurant in your area. Philadelphia offers an array of theater options. You can try: Walnut Street Theater, Forrest Theater or Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, to name a few. Make sure you do play tourist for the day and check out the famous Liberty Bell and Penn’s Landing. You can also enjoy a day of art at The Rodin and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Living in Philly means you’re sandwiched between Washington, D.C. and New York- you can always plan an adventure to one of those areas.

This fact is backed by walkscore.com, rating Philly as the 5th most walkable city in the U.S. If you live in the city, you can definitely get away without having a car.  If you’re new to the city of brotherly love, get to know SEPTA! Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, or SEPTA, is a great way to get around the city with four options of transit: bus, subway, trolley and rail.
