When it comes to grilling, there is no need to feel restricted on the types of foods you can cook. In fact, some non-traditional grilling items gain a new smokey flavor with the addition of a grill. If you’re looking to bring you grilling skills to a new level and try something different this year, try making an all grilled Thanksgiving meal! Taking some of my classic Thanksgiving favorites, I converted my Thanksgiving dinner to an outdoor grilling masterpiece with some friends.
Grilled Turkey
- Slice turkey into thick steaks (or grill a whole turkey here)
- Marinate with olive oil and a blend of seasonings (I used Trader Joe’s 21 Salute Seasoning)
- Set grill Medium to High
- Cook for about 10 minutes on each side or until the internal temperature reaches around 160 °F
- Top with your favorite gravy
Grilled Potatoes
- Cut baby potatoes (red and white) in halves to absorb the seasoning
- Toss potatoes into foil grilling pan (or grilling basket)
- Chop up green onions
- Toss green onion in the pan with potatoes
- Pour one stick of melted butter on top
- Top with seasoning (I used a Bacon and Chive Roasted Potato Mix)
- Grill on Low to Medium for about 45 minutes tossing with tongs as necessary
Grilled Mac and Cheese
- Take your favorite mac and cheese (noodles should already be boiled) and put in foil grilling pan (or grilling topper)
- Sprinkle shredded Mexican cheese and/or Parmesan on top for a change of flavor
- Grill on Low to Medium for about 10 minutes to melt cheese, re-heat mac and cheese and add smokey flavor
Grilled Butternut Squash
- Cut half of a butternut squash into chunks
- Toss butternut squash into foil grilling pan
- Pour one stick of melted butter on top
- Sprinkle on chili powder
- Sprinkle on nutmeg
- Sprinkle on brown sugar
- Sprinkle on Cinnamon
- Drizzle olive oil on top
- Grill Low to Medium for about an hour or until soft
Grilled Green Beans
- Toss green beans into foil grilling pan (or grilling topper)
- Drizzle balsamic vinegar on top
- Drizzle olive oil on top
- Add almond slices
- Add craisins
- Sprinkle on garlic powder
- Sprinkle on sea salt (I used sea salt with lemon)
- Sprinkle on basil
- Sprinkle on red pepper flakes
- Grill Low to Medium for about 20 minutes
With everything gaining a new smokey flavor and slightly different texture, you can enjoy all of your Thanksgiving favorites right off the grill and enjoy the fall weather outside. Don’t forget to top off your all grilled Thanksgiving with a slice of pumpkin pie!
