This is by far the one of the worst renting experiences I've ever dealt with and I can firmly say I will never use U-Haul ever again.
I rent a U-Haul to SF, told it would be a flat fee, that he'd even throw in some extra miles. As I'm about to leave, I bring up the notion that I may just drop the truck off at the original spot in SJ, as I thought this'd be convenient for them. He tells me to just call the call center and let them know I would do that before doing so. Little did I know that they'd completely change the rate to more than double plus all of the per mile fees. Had he would have just told me that when I let him know I may return the truck at the original stop, I most definitely would have reconsidered.
So here I am, after moving all my crap from SJ to SF, back in SJ filling up the gas tank to the truck and I call the call center. Girl on the line tells me the rate would be CHANGED and then I would get charged per mile for however many miles I drove, even when I initially got charged the flat rate. Wow, U-Haul is going to go through the whole process of CHANGING the rate to charge me more? Don't even get me started on the call center employee's sh*tty attitude.
So in total, for a round trip from SJ to SF, I get charged a total of $315. Do you really think that anyone in their right f*ucking mind would opt to rent a U-Haul for that price? To add insult to injury, I got charged for 3 days when I actually returned the truck on the SAME DAY. Currently waiting on my credit back for that.
Additionally, I get charged $30 for gas fees - for not returning the gas at half tank when it INDEED was NOT at half when I received the truck. It was at the line less than half. Chick on the phone says I should have flagged it to the employee and that it states it in my contract, blah blah. How about actually having the gas BE AT where the paper states, instead of depending the CUSTOMER to flag such things? The girl on the call center was pretty useless for this since she said I would have to come IN PERSON to dispute this. Argument was not worth it at this point as I am so over the company already.
Just please reimburse me back for the extra days you fraudulently charged me - I won't even ask how you came to make that mistake when I returned the damn truck on the same day. I don't think anyone should have to deal with all this bullsh*it, policies, fraudulent and random charges when they are doing something so stressful as moving. Renting from U-Haul was the one factor that made my move turn to SH*T. I would never recommend anyone to use the service as I think they look for any way to charge the customer.
Rental cars offer unlimited miles for a flat rate - maybe U-Haul should follow suit. I would rather rent a large truck from a car rental company (without all the hidden and bullsh*t fees) than to EVER EVER consider renting from U-Haul. I'd like to spare others the trouble that I went through, and will not hesitate to share my story wit
