Bait Shop Backwoods Sports Reels in Customers with U-Haul Rentals

PRINCETON, MINN. (March 27, 2015) – Dave Bonsack and his son, Jake, have always been involved in the fishing industry. Their bait shop, Backwoods Sports, is located one mile north of Green Lake, which is renowned for its Panfish selection.

Backwoods Sports does great business during the fishing season, but the Bonsacks were eyeing ways to bring in customers year-round. The father-son duo decided partnering with the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage was a can’t-miss call.

Backwoods Sports now offers U-Haul® trucks, trailers, towing equipment, support rental items, and much more at 5690 Minnesota Hwy. 95. The new U-Haul neighborhood dealer is open every day from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

In the short time since Backwoods Sports has carried U-Haul, the partnership has helped balance the bottom line during the fishing offseason. Jake said most of the rentals are locally based, round-trip rentals rather than one-way rentals. Many customers are taking advantage of U-Haul equipment to move across town or transport items into storage.

Jake attended Minnesota State University-Mankato and studied business, so he’s been able to put his education to good use at the bait shop. Working alongside Dave has been even more fulfilling for Jake because the two are avid hunters and fishermen.

“In my spare time, I hunt and fish – seriously, all the time,” Jake said. “If I can get out of here before dark, I go straight to the lake.”

The Bonsacks are thrilled with their new affiliation, and Princeton residents appear to be pleased with the convenience of second U-Haul dealer in their town 50 miles north of Minneapolis.

U-Haul and Backwoods Sports are striving to benefit the environment through sustainability initiatives. Truck sharing is a core U-Haul sustainability business practice that allows individuals to access a fleet of trucks that is larger than what they could access on an individual basis.

Every U-Haul truck placed in a community helps keep 19 personally owned large-capacity vehicles, pickups, SUVs and vans off the road. Fewer vehicles means less traffic congestion, less pollution, less fuel burned and cleaner air.

Backwoods Sports is a great place to become U-Haul Famous. Take your picture in front of a U-Haul product and your face could land on the side of a U-Haul truck. Upload your photo through Instagram using #uhaulfamous, or go to www.uhaulfamous.com to submit your photos and learn more.
