Be Aware of Your Surroundings

  • Stay Alert - Be aware of your surroundings – look and listen!
  • Be aware of blind spots around vehicles – stay visible and make eye contact with drivers and pedestrians
  • Stay in designated pedestrian areas
  • Follow signage and warnings
  • Look both ways when entering the lot or crossing travel lanes
  • Stay away from forklifts
  • Keep children and pets close to you and off of trucks and trailers
  • Be aware that gates are mechanically operated - Do not park, stop or stand in gate path

Watch Your Step

  • Look out for:
    • Trailer tongues
    • Steps or elevation changes
    • Curbs
    • Loading dock edges
    • Parking blocks
    • Displays
    • Speed bumps
    • Imperfect surfaces
    • Slopes
  • Avoid distractions like texting, talking on the phone, or using headphones
  • Avoid carrying items that block your field of vision, use a dolly instead
  • Walk in well-lit areas

Mind the Weather

  • Wear appropriate footwear for conditions
  • Take extra caution during adverse weather – parking lots, walkways, and surfaces may be snowy, wet, or slippery

Secure Your Belongings

  • Lock your car/rental truck or trailer
  • Don't leave valuables in your car/rental truck or trailer
  • Don't leave your belongings unattended
  • U-Haul is not a bailee of your property and is not responsible for theft of your property
