Be Aware of Your Surroundings
- Stay Alert - Be aware of your surroundings – look and listen!
- Be aware of blind spots around vehicles – stay visible and make eye contact with drivers and pedestrians
- Stay in designated pedestrian areas
- Follow signage and warnings
- Look both ways when entering the lot or crossing travel lanes
- Stay away from forklifts
- Keep children and pets close to you and off of trucks and trailers
- Be aware that gates are mechanically operated - Do not park, stop or stand in gate path
Watch Your Step

- Trailer tongues
- Steps or elevation changes
- Curbs
- Loading dock edges
- Parking blocks
- Displays
- Speed bumps
- Imperfect surfaces
- Slopes
- Avoid distractions like texting, talking on the phone, or using headphones
- Avoid carrying items that block your field of vision, use a dolly instead
- Walk in well-lit areas
Mind the Weather
- Wear appropriate footwear for conditions
- Take extra caution during adverse weather – parking lots, walkways, and surfaces may be snowy, wet, or slippery
Secure Your Belongings
- Lock your car/rental truck or trailer
- Don't leave valuables in your car/rental truck or trailer
- Don't leave your belongings unattended
- U-Haul is not a bailee of your property and is not responsible for theft of your property
