When I think of things that go together, I think of peanut butter and jelly. Batman and Robin. Packing and music. Seriously. Packing boxes is so much more fun when you’ve got a good playlist to keep you motivated. Though there are many songs that are (in their own way) related to moving, here are my top 5 songs for packing boxes.
“Jump Around” by House of Pain. Moving is serious business, which is why you need to start the process with a jam guaranteed to get you on your feet. From the first few lines, this song puts you in the mood to throw things in boxes with authority. “Pack it up! Pack it in! Let me begin. I came to win. Battle me? That’s a sin.” Watch out! You’re a lean, mean box-packing machine.
“Help!” by the Beatles. Packing an entire house full of stuff you’ve accumulated over the years can be pretty overwhelming. It’s time to call in reinforcements with this classic tune. You need help, but like the song says, “not just anybody.” You need the real deal. It may be your friends, family or even professional moving helpers. When the packing starts, don’t be afraid to say, “won’t you pleeeeeease, please help me!”
“I Like To Move It” by Reel 2 Real. If you don’t “move it, move it” when this song comes on, you’re just not human. Sure, it’s a bit annoying when played on repeat by a toddler addicted to the movie “Madagascar.” But, when combined with packing boxes with friends or family around, it becomes a reason to bust out your funky dance moves and laugh.
“Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)” by Billy Joel. Trying to stay focused while you pack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack? (See what I did there?) How about a fun sing-along? Put this song on and the whole room will be singing. Because, “you oughta know by now” that Billy Joel is the king of sing-along songs.
“Irreplaceable” by Beyonce. A playlist wouldn’t be complete without some Queen B. Whether you’re kicking out a cheating boyfriend who must not know about you, or just packing up some boxes to take to your self-storage room, belting out the lyrics to “Irreplaceable” is a given. Sing it with me, “To the left, to the left. Everything you own in the box to the left!”
Bonus track: “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. There will be times when you want to give up. This song will help you get past those moments of weakness. If Rocky can do it, so can you!
