Water Damage Tips

  • Protect property to avoid additional damage
  • Clothes should be washed or dry cleaned as soon as possible. How to save shoes from water damage.
  • Remove excess water by mopping and blotting
  • Place aluminum foil, plastic or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting
  • Open suitcase and luggage to dry, in sunlight if possible
  • Carefully move items to a clean dry area, but be careful, as wet paper items can be extremely fragile
  • Allow fresh airflow/fans to circulate air. Never use warm air fans/blowers. This will raise humidity levels and increase the risk of mold
  • Furniture requires a fungicide and mildew retardant applied as soon as possible. Contact a commercially qualified restoration service provider in your local area.
  • Do not throw away any items until there is an inventory performed. Photos are a good idea to document the damage. Inventory the damaged property by description for the item, age, original cost paid.
  • Assess the situation and decide what material needs to be saved and separate from items than cannot be saved.
  • If the material cannot be moved easily, cover it with plastic sheeting to prevent further exposure.
