Terrible service. The guy promised me to take care of the rental return, and he took photos of the odometer, fuel level, took my key away, telling me that I don't need to do anything. But 2 days later, my rental was still ongoing. I was charged extra $40 for not returning the U-Haul on time as a result. He failed to do what he should do and I am the one taking the risk.

Location was such that it would be a safety issue for my daughter. Owner was unprepared. Office was located within a car lot full of unclean cars. Looked like a mechanic shop. Customer service was nonexistent. Truck was leaking in storage area and wet, causing our items/boxes to get wet. I have been a lifelong customer but after this experience, Penske may be my choice. U-Haul trucks are aged.

The guy didn’t know how to hook the trailer up to my truck. He sent me across town to a U-Haul place and told me I needed a different hitch. At the other place they showed me how to hook it up. I went back and had to get on my knees in the dirt to hook up the trailer. My leg got cut by a rock in the dirt. I would like a credit back to my card I paid with for the inconvenience & for the injury.

The office had a sign up that said they would return in an hour and I had called before arrival to make sure they had the equipment. Then, the guy was not able to lift the trailer on the hitch without my help and he then tells me I need a 1 1/2 inch ball instead of a 2 inch ball. I go to another UHaul location to get a new ball just to find out all trailers for U-Haul use a 2 inch ball. I go back to tell him my ball is correct and it took him 30 min. WITH MY HELP to figure out how to hook the tailer up. I had to go back to the other UHaul location to make sure it was correct. They were great help at the location on Curtner AVe. In San Jose.

Arrived at 2:30pm at location. It was a used car lot with 2 UHAUL trailers and no employees to help. The used car salesman gave me a phone number we had to call. Called and did everything over the phone. He said I had to connect the trailer myself and wouldn't be able to help me. We struggled to left the trailer to connect to truck, eventually we were able to connect to truck hitch. This is unacceptable service not to mention the safety concerns of connecting it correctly. UHAUL should reconsider allowing this location to operate.

There was no one on-site when we arrived for pickup. We waited maybe 15 minutes for the owner of the car lot to show up and tell us the "girl" that handles the U-Haul was gone for the day. The owner was actually very nice overall, but seemed confused about what to do or how to help us with the rental. He finally brought us into his back office and gave me a phone number to call and speak with "Justin." Justin was polite but none of the links he sent for the online rental process worked and he finally just took my Driver's License information over the phone, which made me uncomfortable but there didn't seem to be another option since there was no other way to get the truck (yes we tried both my and my partner's cells just in case mine was having issues). Justin then texted the owner that he could give us the keys, and one of the other used car lot employees walked us part way into the parking lot and pointed at the truck. The entire walk the employee was cursing and saying how he was so glad the U-Haul truck was finally going to be gone. A woman who arrived with this employee had blocked the truck and when he told her to move she cursed at him saying she didn't f*ing care about the U-Haul. Obviously these weren't U-Haul employees, but it made trying to get the truck and leave the facility very challenging. There was almost no fuel in the truck and no instructions for the walk through. The link sent to us didn't work either for the equipment check. We ended up taking photos of the fuel gauge for reference. The inside of the truck was dirty and the windshield wipers didn't work. The light in the back of the truck was also broken. The vehicle should never have been released for customer use and the entire experience was awful. I will never use a Neighborhood U-Haul facility again.
