We did not receive any communication ahead of time that the app would be required for this location. The only emails I received after booking were encouraging me to buy Uhaul supplies or hire moving help. It wasn't until we got there and didn't see any office or direction of what to do that we called. The owners were dealing with a family emergency so were not there and told me I needed to download the app and do everything through that. Totally understand that things happen but the lack of communication ahead of time that this was a remote, unmanned location was frustrating. It was at least 15 minutes of downloading the app, taking photos, verifying information, and then waiting for a code which never came through. Apparently there was a glitch with the app which kept bringing us just to the receipt page. We eventually heard back from a different person who was very helpful and tried to walk us through everything, but the lock box we were supposed to use was not opening (it was rusted and stuck). Finally, we were able to access a different lock box for a different truck and were able to leave with that one, but it was half empty on gas and took a while to start. All in all, we were there at 10am and didn't get to leave the site until 11am, which threw our already tight schedule off for the rest of the day. When we returned, we had to spend another ten minutes taking photos of everything before the app would allow us to complete check in. Again, there was no person there to assist. I don't know if there normally is or this was a one-off, but it was not a smooth process. If a site has no physical person there to help, communication ahead of time needs to be more clear. We ended up an hour behind schedule, with a bigger truck than we needed (meaning having to spend more time securing items), and no one to help us when needed.
