We loved the gentleman who helped us in the office. We did not get his name but we wanted to commend him on his customer service. We had one problem with the truck: the door latch got stuck open. We almost called roadside assistance, but with the effort of three men, we were able to get it unstuck.

Uhaul needs a serious overhaul or their reservation system. I called the main hotline to reserve a large trailer at a specific location. I called back a different number(reservation manager in the area) to confirm reservation and add an extra day but was told that that trailer does not exist no matter what changes I made. This is the second time they have done this. Was told that my reservation was a preferred location, not guaranteed. What kind of bullshit is this type of reservation. Last time I actually showed up there wasn't one available the next day. This i called to be told there is one available AGAIN! Had to go through entire process again and finally had no choice but to get a smaller trailer because largers ones only exist at least 20 miles away. So reserved for two days for a 1pm pick up. BUT when I picked up trailer, I was told that trailer had to be returned by 10am two days later BECAUSE there was a reservation at that time. How does that make sense when I paid for 48 hours?! Couple hours after taking the trailer, I checked my digital contract in email only to discover a discrepancy in my contract. The contract shows I was charged for 2 days, pick up at 1pm and return NEXT day by 7pm! That's 19 hours NOT 48hours!!! I called back this location to discuss error and was then told to return the day after by 9:30am this time! Was told that since someone reserved a trailer I had to return by this time eventhough I paid for 48 hours, so this means I had to return the trailer 3.5 hrs earlier. So my reservation went from a return time of 1pm, to 10am, and now to 9:30am but a 48 hour rental. I did not want Uhaul to screw me over any further so I returned the trailer next day at 9:30pm. YES PM! 12 hrs early. So one last screw was when returned the trailer to the lot. It was pitch black. Not one single light was on! I literally unhitched my trailer with just my tail lights to see what I was doing. Uhaul needs a serious quality control in place and reservation system overhaul. Reservation should not be made during the time its still reserved under my time. If I have any other choice in the future, I would reserved some place before I get screwed. Extremely unprofessional practice by this company. This is not an isolated incident. This reservation Was originallly for Richmond, Ca which switched to Berkeley. The last reservation was in Reno, NV. Both incident resulted in no existence of equipment. I do not write review unless it was this extreme. Find an alternative or double confirm your reservation for guaranteed location of equipment and not PREFERRED location.

I rented a uhaul van to move couches from my house in Berkeley to downtown Oakland. I picked up uhaul on Friday. It set in front of my house until Monday. I drove it to Oakland and back to uhaul place on monday. I was charged for driving 100 miles. The back was nasty and inside was dirty also. plus it was on 1/8 of a tank.

I know it is hard to keep inventory of vehicles current for each location. I was pleasantly pleased to find the 10 ft truck I wanted and that I could easily change my reservation from a 15 ft truck. I found my move was delayed and with one phone call I found I could do an after hour drop off

Over years, I have rented several times at this location and received “top-notched” service. At your Gilman Street location, I give high marks to the counter serviceman that has been there for each of my rentals to move my son from community college to university to graduate school. Thank you!

We drove the truck 14 miles. We did not have time to stop and put gas in the truck. We were charged $18 for gas when we dropped off. Does this mean that gas is $18/gallon? Or how much gas could we have possibly used for that 14 mile drive?

The truck functioned well - one of the wipers was bent - also exterior was pretty dirty - U-Haul changed my original pick up time and location for my 10' truck which had me concerned, but all worked out well

Location specific comments: This place is FAR too dark at night to find the place not to mention feel safe returning a vehicle. Non-location specific comments: I will not be using U-haul again due to your outdated reservation systems. I should not find out day of that my uhaul is reserved out of my town. Both times I have reserved uhauls they have added 30min-2 HOURS! to my long moving day. Unacceptable. Update your systems to keep track of stock the way most other modern companies (rental truck or otherwise) use.

Don't expect the extra effort here. If they don't have equipment that you asked for, don't expect them to hunt it down for you and have it when you arrive. They don't have it? Meh, what are we gonna do? Not really that impressed, and possibly the filthiest rental I have ever seen.

Issue with this 10' truck regarding its fueling access. Provided with gas on empty, and given a fuel credit and other credit, so they handled it well. But the issue was the hole for pump nozzle was too small. Every gas station's pump nozzle came right up against it, so it was impossible to put gas in. Eventually I put gas in a gas can and then put gas in the truck from the gas can. The truck may have been from another state and can;t be gassed up here in CA

My equipment was an hour late for pickup and, most notably, not sanitized at all. The employee at the Berkeley location assured me he would sanitize the truck, to which he did not and informed me that he just "didn't have the time to." I will never be returning to this location again. Incredibly unprofessional, unsanitary, and unsafe during a DEADLY global pandemic.

Make sure the truck is actually clean, the online check-in did not add value as we still had to come inside for +10 min. The order was not showing in the system. The truck had issues with the gas meter that is was showing an near empty tank. Not a great feeling driving something like that.

Not enough staff. The one person on duty was spread thin. It just took that one customer who couldn't get his reservation right before he arrived to make a mess. Returning customers told to wait at their vehicle should not be the last in line for everyone walking in the office to cut in front. U-Haul should see if they can improve their office-based electronics to include tablet-based check in like Enterprise uses.

I will never recommend U-Haul to a friend no matter how friendly the staff is or how clean the facility is. The horrible experience I had renting the truck, mostly with the appalling online check-in process, has soured me from U-Haul permanently.

The van I rented had a side view mirror that was taped on! Ha ha ha! Otherwise it was fine. It got the job done, the associate was friendly and had helpful suggestions for my move. It was pretty easy!

I reserved a dolly and half dozen blankets. Upon pickup I was told they were given away to someone else. This forced me to go to home depot out of my time-frame and get a dolly and blankets due to dishonor of reservation. Also, the Uhaul vehicle I rented was unclean. During COVID pandemic this is unacceptable! I had to disinfect the interior of the Uhaul vehicle before I could use it.
