We reserved a U-Haul truck two weeks in advance, expecting everything to go smoothly. Unfortunately, two days before our scheduled pickup, we were contacted and told that the location no longer had a truck for us. They offered us a smaller truck in a different city instead — and to help make up for the inconvenience, they promised it to us a day early and with a 20% discount. When we arrived to pick it up, things only got worse. The staff at the alternate location were clearly undertrained. The employee helping us was polite, apologetic, and doing her best, but she had little to no training on how to enter truck or customer information into the system. She had to call someone for step-by-step guidance just to process our rental. What should’ve been a quick pickup turned into a frustrating 3.5-hour wait — just to get a smaller truck than we needed. To make matters worse: • The dolly we reserved couldn’t be found at first, causing even more delays. • One of the brake lights and a turn signal on the truck didn’t work, which we only discovered once we got home. • The 20% discount that was promised was not applied, and we were told it could only be done upon return. • When we went to return the truck, no one was there — and our attempts to reach the person who promised the discount went unanswered. We were left stressed, behind schedule, and stuck with a smaller truck that didn’t meet our needs. The extra day they gave us made no difference because of all the delays. While the staff member we worked with was kind and genuinely trying her best, the entire process from start to finish was chaotic and disappointing. We didn’t get what we reserved, we didn’t get what we were promised, and we certainly didn’t get the support or service we expected from a company like U-Haul.
