The guy who met me at the yard was pleasant and helpful. I take issue with Uhaul head office's position that requires a customer, in my case, having to drive 270 km from Houston to Terrace to get the truck. I understand that trucks are often not available in the location from which a csstomer is moving so they need to be picked up elsewhere. What seems wrong to me is that my mileage amount started 270 km earlier than it should have, and that I had to cover the fuel expense to get the truck to Houston where I moved from. There was 1/4 tank of fuel when I got the truck in Terrace, and when I dropped it off in Nanton, AB I had to add fuel to ensure there was the same 1/4 tank of fuel or more. I had to add a lot more than a quarter tank just to get the truck from Terrace to Houston to load it. There is no way U-Haul should expect a customer to bear of cost of getting a truck to the location where it is to be loaded, and then add more fuel at the end of the trip. Uhaul charges as much as $2 or $3 per litre for any fuel they need to add to bring the tank level up to pick up level if the customer doesn't drop it off with original tank level. When a customer has to travel 270 km out of his way to get a truck , there shoud be a reimbursement of some kind - not a penalty fif the fuel level is less than it should be. Most U-Haul dealers are great, but U-Haul head office needs to rethink the cost customers have to bear just to get the truck in the first place. Not impressed.
