Upon arrival at about 8:15am, I had selected mobile pick up. While going through the step in the mobile app it told me to call customer service. Customer service said I needed to do an in-person check in to get the keys. No problem. I go inside, I told the employee my truck number (provided from the uhaul rep) and the employee hands me the keys. I stood there a minute waiting to see if I needed to do anything else for check-in. The employee walked outside, I followed (as I thought we were doing a pre-inspection of the truck), but they walked outside for something else then went inside. So I said have a good day, made sure there was nothing wrong with the uhaul then drove off. I was in the process of moving and upon checking my phone at about 4pm I see many missed calls and a text message. It was the store employee calling and texting from their personal phone number, saying I never completed check-in and that I needed to complete this or they would call the police and report the uhaul stolen. I called uhaul customer service right away to let them know what was going on and the representative was also shocked. Supposedly their #1 rule is “dont have over the keys until check-in is completed and you received payment”. I understand mistakes happen, but to blow someones phone up and threaten by calling the police for your mistake? Moving is already stressful enough, and this caused me time and a headache to straighten everything out.
