First, the reservation I made for a 15 foot truck to be picked up on July 26th in Creston, IA was changed on July 24th to a 10 foot truck to be picked up in Red Oak, IA, 1 hour west of Creston. This was very inconvenient. Second, arrived at the place in Red Oak, the 10 foot truck was sitting in front of an unoccupied building in a gravel/weed parking lot. I went through the inline check in and when I got to the “ Get your keys” screen it told me to show the screen to the person at the desk. There was no “person” and no “desk”. Tried to chat through the app and all the app would tell me was to see an attendant. So, I called the number provided in the confirmation text, (712) 414-7025, Doug answered and told me he was no longer a U-Haul dealer. Finally got ahold of someone with U-Haul and after several tries, was able to open the lock and retrieve the key. This was one hour after arriving at the 10 foot truck in Red Oak. Do better at communicating changes and lower the inconvenience factors for future customers.

This was a horrible experience from beginning to end. I called the night before to confirm- Doug acted surprised but said it’s fine. I asked him if he needed to look it up- he said no it was fine. I go to pick it up the next day and no one was there. Call Doug- he forgot. Said he would send his son- when I asked how long- “IDk, about 30 minutes” Annoyed, I said okay- his response was that it was the best he could do or I could go someplace else. About 30 minutes later, his son shows up and gives my husband the key. Didn’t ask for ID, no signatures- nothing. The next day ( as we are driving to RETURN the uhaul after having for over 24 hours- uhaul calls and asks if we would like reschedule a pick up, since we didn’t show up to get it! Mind blown!! I explained the situation. She was extremely embarrassed and said that we probably wouldn’t be charged. Today- my account is debited $285!?! Uhaul: I would like a refund. Or at least a major discount. What a stressful situation!
