I rented a car dolly on a Saturday for 24 hrs. The lady in the office told me since they were going to be closed on Sunday that I can just drop the dolly off and she would check it back in on Monday for a $20 fee. She told me that I can avoid the $20 fee by checking it back in on the app myself. I sat in the parking lot over 30 mins trying to get the app to work, which never did. I finally had to call the 800 number to get a link to return it. I checked my bank account today and they double charged me. I called the office location and was told I got charged because I was an hour late returning it. Then she told me that it says in my contract that I would be charged an extra day for being late, so I went back and read the contract again. Nowhere on the contract did it mention anything about a late fee, just the $20 fee for them to check it in on Monday. I called her back after rereading the contract and informed her that it doesn't say anything about what she told me. Then she said that I should have just known that part of their policy, even though I've never rented one before AND it's not on my contract! Wow! What a scam. Basically what they are saying is, you can be late, as long as you give their location an extra $20. But they neglect to inform you of the actual policy. . I don't mind paying a late fee as long as I'm told about them in advance. She was more interested in telling me about the locations $20 fee, that is kept by them I'm sure, than telling me about U-Haul's actual return policy. Be careful dealing with this location. They are not honest people.
