CHARLES MIs this particular business to blame for U-Haul's glitches? No. They could have done a better job, but ultimately I think U-Haul itself is to carry most of the fault here. A few days before the move I was contacted by U-Haul. They wanted to change my reservation location (I had reserved two trucks and two trailers--and now they wanted me to pick them up at no less than three different places and/or reduce my truck size), so that in the end, one truck was over 30 minutes away to the west and one trailer was about 20 minutes away to the east. Fine, so be it. I could get up extra early to make that work. Day of move, I'm busy getting everything ready, and I missed a voicemail come in. The call was from the neighboring state (figured it was one of the moving companies I had sought a quote from). Nobody's fault but my own that I didn't notice the voicemail until I arrived at the place I was supposed to pick up my truck (over 30 minutes to the west in the neighboring state). But why didn't U-Haul themselves call me? I was signed up for text notifications, but I didn't receive anything from them directly. The truck I was supposed to pick up had not been returned on time, so there was no truck available for me to pick up, which I didn't learn until I was at the location. It took quite a while before a phone call to U-Haul landed me at the Savanna pick up location. Now I had to drive another 30 minutes, and my moving schedule was starting to fall apart. But it isn't over yet: the helpful lady at the location across the state line warned me that I might not find any body at the new location. But what could I do more than drive there and hope it was better than her warning. Alas! it was not. Nobody present. Nobody answering the phone. Somebody else drove up to pick up his reservation and had to wait too. I tried the auto-pick-up feature, but it was not cooperating with my phone. I'm not tech expert, but I'm also not entirely incompetent with it. Was trying to solve the problem over the phone when one of the local employees finally showed up. He apologized profusely, which I do appreciate. He didn't know why the other employee wasn't there. They both had unexpected trouble clog up their mornings. I get it. It happens. Obviously! I myself would be very late to pick up my second truck because of all of this unexpected trouble, and late getting home to the young men I hired through U-Haul to load up my trucks. But U-Haul should have a better system than this. I've moved twice before using U-Haul, and I had only encountered minimal trouble before. This move was simply bad all the way around. I used to work for U-Haul. They paid me to do nothing more than drive around the state to move trucks from places with low demand to places with high demand. It was a good job to help pay my education expenses. The people that worked at the store were generally quality workers who did a great job. I've always thought U-Haul was a good company. But I'm not convinced they put forth the effort to make it as convenient for their customers as they used to do. But hey, it is by far the cheapest moving option, and the trucks are nice, so I guess I can't expect a perfect move.

JUSTIN BThe gentleman that came out to fix the trailer was great! He was very friendly and immediately knew the trailer had to be repaired to be road worthy. So he ran all the way back to his shop location (an hour and a half away). Got me a replacement.trailer and drove all.the way back to us. He got us back on the road to finish our trip.
SEAN KDon’t let the working area of this location fool you into thinking you won’t get great service from kind, knowledgeable, and safety conscious individuals. Josh and Chance made our return & getting our car off the towing trailer, and check in stress free. It’s a small shop that shares the location with a Napa shop. They made our u-haul experience end on a positive!

Gina DThe dude who runs the place is trying to charge a $200 cleaning fee when everything was cleaned out when I dropped it off. I only had the truck from 9:40 on Saturday morning till 7:40 on Saturday night when I dropped it back off. I have pictures that it was clean and swept maybe some dust was left in it but as I said I have pictures when I picked it up and I have pictures when I dropped it off. Did not need $200 for the cleaning. Then when I went to discuss the matter with the fella at the store that I picked it up at he tried telling me that I broke his door and he proceeded to call the police. The police even told him that it was old damage not new and I was not arrested. Myself and my significant other will not tolerate this and I will make sure I tell everyone that I know not to rent from the dude in Savanna Illinois. Absolutely bad business!!! But a supposed $200 cleaning fee. I will post the pictures for anyone who would like to see.

Justin BVery pleasant rental experience, rental rep was personable and made sure to go over all the insurance options, etc. Trailer very close to brand new so no issues there. And U-Haul's trailer rental fees are still affordable. I typically go to U-Haul for trailer rentals and nothing about this visit affects that.
Richard UJosh went above and beyond. When the hitch was stuck he unstuck it. Then the lights wouldn’t work and he fixed them. What a great employee.

Justin BThere was literally nobody working when i showed up for my pick up time. Lights off and door locked. Took half an hour just to get ahold of somebody and another 15 minutes for them to actually show up. Would not recommend this location, very unprofessional

Jeffrey SThe renting experience was great. He was so very helpful in giving me a tutorial as I was a first time trailer puller. What I don't get is...why the 6' x 12' do not have integrated jacks. An empty trailer is fine..but once full it can be hard for 2 grown men to life.
