The field the trailers were stored in had some tall weeds (one was ~3.5’ tall). It may be worth considering flailing the storage lot every month or so to avoid kicking up pollen, stimulating insects flying about, and allow the performing vehicle walk arounds a bit easier. I don’t have allergies and wasn’t wearing clothing that could snag on thistle, but I did get a (VERY MINOR) scratch on my leg. Another suggestion would be for a 10-second orientation to the door clasp. We weren’t instructed to latch the hooking mechanism in the open position, and had to have our smallest-handed person insert their hands between the small space between the trailer frame and the opened door to maneuver the latching mechanism into a position where we could close it - the hook of the latching mechanism had drifted just enough during loading (stepping in and out of the trailer) to catch on the trailer frame to prevent the door closing. Took about five minutes to blindly maneuver the mechanism back so we could close the door. Literally a 10 second demonstration could have prevented us the stress of not being able to close the door once loaded, and walking away with filthy and one (densely built) hand from bruising. I think a low profile grasping handle could be easily mounted onto the left side of the latch, for both lifting and closing. Yes, the pull cord exists, and one could place their hand on the latching mechanism. However, it’s safer ergonomically to use two hands to close the door (rather than pulling with one arm on an off-centered pull cord), plus it allows for a more-controlled lift or close to have two points of contact with the body oriented squarely to the door. Also, many people (wisely) have a hesitance to place their hand on a movable mechanism (the locking latch) to apply lifting or closing force at awkward heights (high or low); the mechanism could move/pinch fingers if applying force and not properly latched open. I understand the door must be able to open, so even a 4”x1” piece of material could be bolted on the left side of the latch to compliment the pull cord on the right. Even if the depth of this grab point were 1/2”, it would have a thinner profile than the latch itself (no clearance issues for the door opening closing - thinner than the latch itself), but allow for a balanced, easy, ergonomic, and controlled point of contact for raising and lowering the door. Note: my father recently moved with the exact same trailer dimensions from Uhaul, and he mentioned that this unit had a less-user friendly door than others, so perhaps this specific unit (and a few others like it) were older or have not yet been updated; also, he had rented a similar unit 6 times for his move, and they all were more user friendly, so perhaps an inventory review could easily identify the units that are lacking this feature. Lastly, we performed the walk around and took photos ourselves, and when I tried to upload them to the link I received via text asking for photos from 4 angles, it prompted me to take photos instead of being able to upload the photos we took. Along with the 10-second latch orientation, I think it would be VERY reasonable for employees to hook up the trailer and then take those 4 walk around photos themselves before sending clients off. Clients could still take their own walk around pictures, but it would satisfy the photo requirement on site as a standard “departure condition”. I think this would take an employee about 1minute maximum, it would benefit your company by having standardized, real time photos, and it ultimately could offer both Uhaul AND customers the fair and reasonable piece of mind of documenting the condition on pick up. I hope you find this feedback helpful in some way. I am very sensitive to the time burden placed on employees, but I believe these changes would benefit Uhaul and their aura of responsible and thoughtful lenders of equipment.. and create LOW impact, high reward experience for all. MIKHAIL ZOur checkout process was hostile. I realize Michael, the counter person was having a difficult time with some system issues. Hwe had an online reservation but he did a new manual one because he said the system wasn’t working. He called about half an hour after we had left with the truck and advised the picture of the license hadn’t gone through. We were back at the rental center with the truck within minutes. Michael was hostile and argumentative the entire time he was rescanning the license. It was a very distressing experience considering we were giving him what he asked for and the truck was safely back at the center. I can not give a good review with that kind of experience.
