Jammie SSubject: Formal Complaint – Dangerous Equipment, Unprofessional Service, and Unsafe Pickup Conditions To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a serious issue regarding the trailer I recently rented from U-Haul. The experience was completely unacceptable—both in terms of equipment quality and the professionalism of the staff. 1. Severely Damaged Equipment: • The trailer was in dangerous condition, with shredded sheet metal, broken components, and extensive wear and tear both inside and out. • The weatherstripping was compromised, allowing water to leak into the trailer and destroy valuable materials during transit. • In its current condition, this trailer should be immediately decommissioned, as it is a road hazard and a liability to both customers and the general public. 2. Unprofessional Staff and Unsafe Pickup Area: • The individual handling the rental was unprofessional and unhelpful. • The yard was cluttered, disorganized, and not safely accessible with a trailer attached. • I was unable to maneuver properly due to obstructions, and traffic was blocked, creating unnecessary risk and frustration. I have videos and photos clearly documenting the trailer’s condition and the unsafe environment at the pickup location. This situation reflects gross negligence in equipment maintenance and customer service. I request the following: • A formal investigation into this rental location and the trailer in question • Immediate removal of this trailer from the rental fleet • Compensation for the damaged materials and inconvenience caused • Written confirmation of action taken This experience has raised serious concerns about U-Haul’s quality control and commitment to safety. I expect a timely and professional response.

ANTHONY CWhen I reserved the truck my total was $220, I would get a discount if I did a drop off at Ontario. But when I checked in the associate informed me my total was now $293. I'M VERY UPSET! I've used Uhual multiple times and have not had this issue. Associate kept saying g hr couldn't do anything. When I got my recipe I saw no discount for the Ontario drop off which is farther from where I live and could of saved money on gas if I dropped it off at a San Bernardino location.

I have been using U-Haul for a long time and I have never had gone through anything like that before. I am grateful for the help. I was evicted from my apartment because of workers compensation. I have a 20lbs weight limit on my right arm. So I can’t move on my own and was looking for help to unload the truck but I couldn’t find it. I would never steal a truck. Daphne D | Overall ExperienceI walked into this location to reserve a trailer a week before I needed the trailer and the rep at the counter was the most unprofessional jackass(a guy with tattoos) I have dealt with in a very long time, as he was telling me my Dodge ram2500 diesel was not capable of towing this trailer and I being a retired Master Tech from a automobile dealership. I walked out the door with a reservation and a bad feeling. I showed of an hour early of my pickup time and then left without a trailer and to return two hours later and the customer before me that they rented to did not return the trailer at that time, so I left with a trailer with bent tongue (but the brakes did function properly) The counter guy(different guy that told me truck was enough truck to pull this trailer) gave me a discount for the inconvenience that the customer that did not bring the trailer back at the stated time time had caused. The trailer towed fine with a bent tongue, then when I returned the trailer I pulled up in front in front of the hitch install bay to find the check in guy (Dave) on his phone and slow to walk up to meet the return, at which time he asked me to pull forward I asked him how far and he continued to give me hand signals so I just pulled up to where I thought was enough and that pissed him off, at this time he thumped the tires, all good, then he told me turn on the lights which I did and then I realized I had become an employee and we were doing a safety inspection for the next rental at this time he told me to turn on left signal so I turned on the hazards at this time he yelled at me to turn off the hazards and follow he directions and I did and all was good with the return. As a business owner I would never have the guy with tattoo's that took my reservation or the guy who checked in the trailer(Dave) work for a business I owned!!! These two employees are costing your business clientele!!

Richard NThis was a very easy pick up of the car hauler that I wanted and everyone was very professional and helpful. Dropping off when I was done was just as easy.
MAXX BWell the truck lights were falling out of the bumper. The truck was not clean when I pick it up. And I overestimated my trip milage and gas usage and did not get credited for returning it early. I pick it up with 1/4 of a tank and returned it with 3/4 of a tank. And only used about 1/3 the planned milage. If it was the other way round I would get charges massively and penalized.

THOMAS MOriginally made reservation for a trailer at ACT Auto Care in Mesquite, NV. Everything looked good and I got a confirmation phone call from U-Haul. I called a CT to double check the day before or… Only to learn that they did not have my trailer and had not bothered to notify me at all. By calling U-Haul, we were able to move the location to Vegas, which was about 80 miles away but on the route. It all worked out and U-Haul was super helpful. I would never use a ACT Auto Care in Mesquite, NV for any U-Haul trailer in the future.

debra r | Overall ExperienceJust an awful experience overall. At least it was clean and not flooding or on fire. It was supposed to be 24-7 access but so many times I would come to drop my things off at night only to lug them back home because my card and/or code didn’t work. I went to get it “fixed” by the staff, then I stopped by one night before rent was due to clear my things out and the facility was still locked. They’re only helpful enough to get your things in there, then it’s a fight from there on to access your items when you should be able to. Ended up paying nearly $600 for nothing. Never been more disappointed or displeased in a storage facility in my life. As frustrating as this experience has been I’ll never in my life suggest that anyone use U-Haul storage because there’s a slim chance you’ll leave with your things and even slimmer chance of you leaving satisfied. I wouldn’t suggest this storage spot to my worst enemies. Too expensive, never responsive when you need to reach them by phone, just overall an awful experience. One good thing is it’s clean. Best I can do as far as pros go for them.

But the amount of homeless roaming the property and in the facility gave me a feeling that I would not want to be there anytime besides business hours. It is extremely sketchy at night. People harass you for change and ask if you need help repeatedly. I'm from here and used to all that but this was out there. I did not feel comfortable with my wife and kid alone with the multiple people watching and circling us nonstop during our move. I felt like inhad to watch my back and regretted putting my family in that position. I will likely find a unit at another location just because of this.

Originally, I was told I was paying (over the phone, while my brother was actually moving in), that I was paying for that month (beginning 2/1/24). I was told the second month was free due to your promotion. When the copy of the completed contract was emailed to me it showed I would be billed again on 3/1/24. My calls are forwarded to a call center and they say to call you, at the office at this address. Please answer the phone!!! I originally spoke and paid Jo. More importantly, please correct the contract. I will not be paying for March unless you honor your word that “the second month is free.”3

I got a notification that you sold our stuff for $40.00 that is a shame I have have been paying on time for over a year and I get sick and loose my belongings and my small children’s belongings. If you would have waited 2 more days you would have made way more then $40.00.

When we arrived garage slider was open and I hadn’t fully understood where I’d have to put in access code, when we got to the unit and opened it, the alarm did go off… when the woman who came to check on the unit, she seemed very annoyed and inconvenienced. I express my apology and it was obvious she was agitated. Not shortly after, this happened to someone else and I happen to witness her reaction to the alarm & her notification. She rolled her eyes with a big sigh. I would assume that following up on alarms is part of her job description and such dramatic and irritable responses seemed inappropriate and was somewhat upsetting… to be spoken to in a condescending way definitely didn’t make me or the people helping me, feel very good.

I was accessed a late charge on the last two billing cycles because the automatic payment wasn't processed with no explanation giving (no the card was not close to the limit. No it was not expired). In both cases, I'd confirmed auto-pay was set up before the due date. It is not worth dealing with billing issues, so moved my stuff out.

Speed wouldn't go over 55 on e way half the time. Mostly we did 30 to 40 miles all the way there. Had to drive in neutral most the night, I got to Vegas in 48hr instead of 26 hr.Transmission was slipping made crazy noise and the check engine light came on. Tried call roadside on hold for hr, each time I called it was 1he, so we cost the way to Vegas, i played over 2,800 dollars to go through this just was disaster. I never had this experience with uhaul until now.

Month later police officer calls me saying my unit wasn’t broken into and that i filed a false police report. Your office caused me a lot of unnecessary stress and issues that I’m still dealing with.

The storage space was a great solution. In retrospect, when your initial rep offered trailer rental as opposed to the small truck, she didn't bother to ask if the drop-off location was restricted.

The employee then corrected himself and told me the unit was available. I was provided with an access card that did not work and an access number that did not work as well. I currently have no way to access my unit. I was told the computer system was down but other customers were accessing the doors while I was loading my unit. I had to keep the door propped open because the double doors locked before I was able to finish unloading my trailer into the unit.

Then the people had there cars parked blocking any access to the dock as well. Upon asking the employees at your store to help, l was told to figure it out. Rude and short, leave them alone loud and clear. At 2:45 when l could finally get to the dock, l was again rudely told the dock was clear an hour after l left. Nice, over five hours of a junkyard blocking access and I’m the bad guy? The manager there needs to have a serious attitude review.

Further, I had to move three time over the past two years. I used Uhaul storage and moving trucks for every move. I just had to pay $217 so that I could simply ensure that my storage unit was EMPTY so that I could cancel the contract because the date had moved past due. It was empty and I was trying to get a family member who still lived there to check it. I was a promoter of Uhaul service. But now I am a detractor. I will never suggest Uhaul, their poor employees, and their poor business practices be avoided.

I was not aware that Uhaul does not prorate nor give refunds on storage units but, you give refunds on truck rentals, to me that's an oxymoron. I would not recommend anyone to use Uhaul for storage, the truck rental is good.

Your employees inside seem generally rude, abrupt, overworked, harassed and impatient. My most recent experience with an employee at the desk was poor, at best. She was upset with me because I left my phone in my car "you don't even have a PHONE?" no, ma'am, I don't. "Can you go back and get it?" No, ma'am I am currently carrying a 50lb sleeping child and have NO desire to walk 50 yards back to my car in 108° heat. To be honest, the use of my phone to check in should be a convenient OPTION, not a necessity. She then said, "well I guess I'll have to use MY phone." Okay, please do, and I handed her my driver's license. She then used her pen to flick it back at me, through the air, in the most impatient way possible. I called her on her behavior, which I found exceptionally rude and unprofessional. The remainder of the interaction was how it should have started; at least she became semi professional instead of abrupt and rude. People are coming to your facility for a service. Instead of acting as if you are our last resort in times that can/could be turbulent, how about teaching your people how to act with even a modicum of compassion and human decency? Or, maybe you could hire people like that, instead of having to train it into them? I have repeatedly emailed the manager Dan Ferre regarding a credit that was supposed to happen two months ago. I've decided to file that credit under the "never do business with Uhaul again" and let it go. All that having been said, however, regardless of the half dozen unpleasant interactions I have had inside Uhaul over the years, I have literally NEVER had an unpleasant interaction with the people working outside. I don't know which way the ladder of success moves in your facility, but the people outside seem happier.

Some had thought everything would be dusty and dirty, it’s amazing how clean the boxes and furniture remained. This morning I began wiping things down with disinfectant because of the current Virus situation, some items leather and some wood also the boxes, there was only a little dust on the sofa and love seat, it’s absolutely amazing. During my rental on several occasions, I had to call in for something and I would request to speak to Arick, I think he may be the Assistant Manager, he is a wonderful person, kind, helpful, professional with a smile that will keep Customers coming back. A couple of times I spoke with a young lady that was rude; I don’t think she’s there anymore, however, Arick’s customer service skills made up for any diversity that did occur. I appreciate that all the staff kept my belongs safe.
