OLIVA L | Overall ExperienceIf possible you should show up 15 mins earlier than your drop off time since they ask you to do so much before it’s officially recorded as a drop off. If you get the day truck rental, you’re only allowed 30 miles and if you go more than that, they charge you extra when they send your final receipt which for me, was a week later. I didn’t read anywhere where this would happen.

I can not say enough about the polite, prompt and professional service that I received from Lloyd, who took the time to explain what to do, provide the right equipment and answer all my questions, while standing outside in the rain, as well as Tony who expedited the return process and got me back out on the road in no time. SARAH SNext time actually book someone properly. We drove to 3 different locations the morning of our reservation because our reservation got moved from the original booking and NO ONE told us. In fact our email specifically confirmed that location for the time we booked. Then U-Haul sent us to another location only to be told they took a walk in and it wasn’t available until finally we got sent to a third location. Setting us back hours. Completely ridiculous. Will definitely look into other options next time. I’ve used U-Haul MANY times and this has been the absolute worst experience

JOHN YI appreciate how my storage was supposed to end on Sunday but they allow us to come n get it on Monday cause that was the only time my husband had off n they understood n didn't charge me I was their for 3 months n it was great I just wish it was a better system checking out the rental by the time u check out the rental sometimes it's almost an hour go by before you get the txt for the rental

I will tell every person I interact with to tell every person they interact with to make sure they never use U-Haul again. I have never experienced such a horrible customer interaction with any company I've dealt with. U-Haul is such a massive company and has no idea what they are doing. It's actually impressive that the company has lasted this long. I know I can't bring this company down, but hopefully I can prevent as many people as possible from using this company in any way.

PIERRE COverall, I had a great experience. The only issue was having rental equipment in the back of the truck that took up space I needed. I declined any additional equipment and to have it on the truck zip tied, was a slight inconvenience. Outside of that, Ms. Dawn was a gem!!

YHONY CI rented a 10 x 10 storage unit that has a large column right in the center of the unit that took up crucial space. Customers should be informed of such things prior to renting the units.

The manager was helpful and friendly. However there are a few person on staff that know the inconvenience of not being able to use the service doors would cause us to spend prolonged hours loading and unloading. They still denied us. Making out loading and unloading of items that much more difficult.

Rented 12 blankets for four days, ended up keeping several of them, should have just bought them all from the beginning ($45 to buy vs. $40 for the rental for six). No way to reconcile this after the fact. Trailer was fine, but this left a pretty bad taste in my mouth.
MICHAEL MCustomer service gave misinformation after repeated phone calls. Customer service assured me that a double booking did not happen, after I repeatedly told them it did. I was charged additional fees for services not provided. Would never use U-haul again.

I had insurance but the monetary amount that I received was very small and did not equate to the loss incurred. Also I encountered a lot of mice droppings in my unit. I was very disappointed with my experience here. I don’t suggest that anyone store their belongings at this place, if you do it’s at your own risk!

LEON WWell someone needs to be there so I won’t have to go find the truck myself on top of all that I fell on ground the Dollie’s need to be on the truck already. I end up falling over dolly trying to find the truck. I would only recommend U-Haul because of the movers that help me and I guess it was one of workers that helped me up thank god for him.

BRYAN AI just don't like the big rat boxes, and my unit had them dead lantern flied in it. Everything else went pretty well and I didn't like the random guy walking around the office listening to me register my account info.

Two employees were helpful & kind & the manager ( a man ) was very helpful . My personal property was stolen , I still haven’t received any compensation from my stolen property/items. My 10x10 unit wasn’t a 10x10 it was very small & had a brick wall in the middle of my space which took up a lot of space.

I gave one star because the kid LOYD was so respectful and didn’t give me a hard time about reversing the charge for the unit I booked. The place is really beyond nasty in regards to the rest.

It was also unfortunate that my reservation mentioned "First Month Free" however upon arrival I couldn't get. Lastly, I upgraded my unit to a 10x15 just get a unit that had a beam take up atleast a foot and a half of the space. Staff was friendly and helpful, the location office was clean.

An hour of my time wasted and I wasn’t able to move anything ins the key pads for you to swipe your cards also didn’t work 3 different groups of people had to wait for that to start working also. The weren’t enough carts one family literally hogged them all. It was a horrible experience. With us not being able to access the key pad someone ended up leaving their phone upstairs and the elevators locked. Having a number outside to call/use for emergencies for them to NOT answer or NEVER get back to you is a waste. All in all I had a horrible experience. Great way to end a day lugging a bunch of stuff around.

To capture a selfie and ID photos that wouldn't save, to finally getting it completed, being told online for completion you get a complimentary lock for your unit to get there and be told they no longer offer that special at this location was beyond disappointing!!! Trying to complete it online, the lock was the incentive that I still had to pay for!! What was said online wasn't honored in store!! Then after struggling to finally get it completed online to have them have to take pictures of your id all over again there.....felt like I waisted time doing it online!! I was completely lost finding my unit as you only get a map and no assistance beyond that, walking over several puddles within the building by the storage units from wherever the water was coming from due to the rain was crazy!! But the storage unit itself was clean, no complaints there!!! I do love that you can park inside to move your things, because the rain yesterday was crazy!!

Angel H | Overall ExperienceThe storage facility was suitable for storage needs. My only concern was the end of the storage service. The units were sent to auction. The manager Tesha and I spoke at 11am regarding the options of whether I paid the full amount or half the unit cost. We both agreed I would pay half and have access to the unit until 10pm the same day to remove the items. Any items I couldn't move should left and it would be trashed. I requested additional time and she refused. Tesha stated she was leaving at 2pm for the day. I left my job to meet her, pay half and review all the items I could. Days later she calls me to chastise me about the items I left. I left the storage unit open as she previously requested. On this call she yelled, over talked me and lied about what our conversation was. She said the call was recorded. I told her good run the recording back. I ended the call very upset and disturbed that as a customer with a corporate account that I was treated this way. This is the second occurrence with her that I had, the 1st time involved renting a truck and then the days were reduced by her. Her reasoning was she gave was other people need the truck. I ended up going to the Newark location and the manager was super helpful. I would never recommend the Hillside location under her management. In the 1st case I contacted the regional manager that was able to assist me. Tesha refused to give me the number luckily I had an email from 3 years prior with a direct cell phone contact to the regional person. I have never had a problem with any other employees in the Hillside location and my corporate account has been open for several years. My biggest frustration was Tesha yelling at me and demanding more money after she stated I only had to the end of the day to remove items. So from her call 11am until 10pm of the same day was all the time she would give me.

The staff weren’t very informative, one specifically anyway, her instructions weren’t very clear and she seemed dismissive. As my friend and I waited patiently to be served we felt dismissed with how we were helped. I don’t recommend people to this location for that very reason.

Evelyn F | First ImpressionsWhile my online experience was great and most important, convenient, my in-person experience with the General Manager, Tesha Williams, was quite the opposite. It seems like the location as a whole should take a few classes on professionalism since even when it comes to people working outside, they talk to you however. As if, you are supposed to just know where to go, even if it’s your first time. Upon checkin, I was supposed to be given a lock, for free. Since they ran out I was told I could go across the street to Ace hardware to buy my own. No one mentioned being reimbursed. I had previously rented a truck and was due to return it the same day so I pulled in the garage and drove all the way to the end which is where the most convenient elevator for my unit was. There was barely any parking available due to whatever construction was going on so I parked the best way I could and proceeded to unload the truck. After three trips I get ready for my fourth and final. Tesha and another employee had begun walking around and were complaining about what another customer had done when they asked if the vehicles near me were mine. I said yes and the employee said oh okay good. Tesha abruptly stated that I’d have to move. I said okay I’ll move after I finish unloading and was told that that wouldn’t be suffice. She said no, you have to move now. She pointed to a piece of cardboard stuck on a cone and off to the side that said no parking. I told her with a big truck you can barely see the cone. She said since I didn’t want to move right then and there she would simply evict me. I asked her her name as she walked around with a bedazzled cup sipping away. She gave it and her title and proceeded to stare me down while I finished my unloading. Tesha is rude, unprofessional, says/acts how she likes and after having this experience, I see that other customers have complaints about her as well. It’s a shame that this is the standard UHaul is comfortable representing them and no actions have been taken. *It was not until after I left that Tesha had the employee move the cones to block the path and use caution tape around the pillars to properly show the area shouldn’t be parked in.

After troubleshooting for 20-30 minutes, we realized it was a two step process; check-in at a machine then access to the elevator. After calling the facility I was informed by the worker she was alone and couldn’t come to assist. My unit was supposed to come with a lock which wasn’t there. I called U-haul customer service to secure a larger unit and cancel my current unit, it wasn’t a lot of help. The whole process was convoluted and stressful. The administrative process made move in much longer than it had to be. Contacting this location is also difficult because calls are forwarded to corporate, and high doesn’t help when you’re at the storage facility.

When I went to receive the unit was a little closet or locker how they call it. I had to climb a ladder to get access to. It was terrible, specially for me since I have a recently injured knee and foot . I removed my name from that reservation to go look for something more convenient. The personnel at that location recommended going to this location in Hillside to get the type of unit I was looking for, and I am extremely satisfied with the building, and the customer service I received. The only missing piece is Military discount for service members.

I work 2 jobs and sometimes needed to get something from the storage or put something in and I can't because your closed at 7. Yesterday I had to leave work early just to make sure I cleaned out the storage in time before closing. And even when I first moved in my stuff was outside the storage for the night because even tho I was checked in and in the building the elevator stopped going up because it was 7. I was extremely upset called the manager to see if there was anything that could be done to put the items outside the storage inside and I'd fix them the next day but nope I was SOL. Fix the timing if someone is paying 165 a month for storage they should be aloud 24hr access. Competitors are 24/7 just saying. Next time I'm going somewhere else because they're 24hrs.

I wasn’t informed that we could drive into the bottom of the storage facility to unload our belongings if we had smaller vehicles. I also wasn’t told until the day I moved in they if I had a large Uhaul truck that i couldn’t unload in the loading area. I was forced to unload my things then put them back in the truck. An employee said the storage unit isn’t supposed to be open yet and they could get shut down by the state if we unloaded in the front. That was incredibly frustrating and wasted our time. We had to then move the truck to a basement entrance and unload in the basement and walk far to an elevator in the dark, unlit basement. It was probably the most frustrating move in that I’ve had to deal with at any storage facility.

Michael L | First ImpressionsWe rented a storage unit at the Hillside NJ facility which was listed as having office hours Sunday 9-5. Further, I called UHaul the week prior to confirm I would be able to move in on Sunday and that there would be someone there to receive me and help me access my unit. Upon arriving the building was completely closed / abandoned. There were no visible signs that it was open / closed / a valid UHaul facility. We walked around the building for an hour and knocked on doors and it was completely vacant. Having no other choice, given we had a full UHaul truck of our belongings, we called the nearest UHaul storage location in Elizabethtown. Had it not been for the manager of that facility, Omar, who drove over and let us in, helped us move and waited for us to finish and lock up, we would have gone to a different moving and storage company. Omar was incredibly helpful and patient and we can't thank him enough. That being said the fact that I was able to reserve a unit for a scheduled move in date at a facility that is abandoned / not occupied on a regular basis is inexcusable. We had paid a lot of money to reserve the storage unit and the truck we filled with our belongings, all of which would have been wasted if not for the kind help of Omar.

She should be commended and rewarded for her attention to detail, flexibility and hard work to manage such a large operation with many moving parts. I hope her managers realize what a great employee they have and she is compensated accordingly. You don't want to lose her. I checked I am not happy with the hours of the location (8am-4pm) currently, but I assume once the facility opens fully the hours would be extended later.
