The technician did not connect the trailer to my truck properly which resulted in the trailer jumping off the hitch. Luckily I was going about 15 mph as I approached a red light. The chains kept the trailer from going into other lanes. This was not a good experience.Larry G.
I want to commend the young man at the Pelham location that checked us in, if he isn't the manager then he should be. We had a 41â€ coffee table to move to Destin, FL. UHaul call center recommendations were a 5x8 trailer because the call center representative said the 4x8 trailer only had a single door that was 40â€ wide so our coffee table would not fit inside the door opening. I asked the young man at Pelham if we could see and measure a 4x8 trailer because it looked like the doorway was big enough to fit the coffee table through it. Turns out the opening was big enough and he changed our order from a 5x8 trailer to a 4x8- he not only got us the trailer we needed but saved us having to haul a larger and less than half full trailer all the way to Destin. We appreciate an employee who went above and beyond caring about the needs of the customer, also his knowledge and experience with your products was excellent!LYNN S.

I returned the Uhaul the evening of May 7, the day before it was required to be returned. Since the location was still open, I went inside. Nobody greeted me, and I had to initiate conversation with the male employee. His responses were short and hateful. I specifically asked if I needed to sign or do anything and he told me no. I handed him the key and asked one more time if I am done, and he said yes. I also want to note the female employee was being EXTREMELY hateful to another customer, which I found very offsetting and unprofessional. She was speaking in a loud, hateful, degrading manner, and I was embarrassed for the customer. On May 9, I received a call asking when I'd be returning the truck, insinuating I never returned it or stole it. I advised it was returned the evening of May 7. The employee did some checking and then advised the employee never checked in the truck, which indicated I never returned it. I advised I had 5 witnesses who saw me return the truck, alongside store cameras. I also informed this employee the staff on May 7 was incredibly rude and I would not be back. This entire experience was a string of issues (aside from the customer service at the pickup), and I will not rent from Uhaul again.Morgan S.

Awesome service!! Belle and Chase (@ the Pelham Parkway location) were extremely helpful, kind, compassionate, patient and professional at a very stressful time for my son and his roommate. We, unexpectedly, had one day to move furniture out of an apartment due to fire damage and they both worked their magic and had us in a truck in less than 20 minutes (we walked in without a reservation). The last several times I have rented a trailer I have had to unload it myself. Today after I checked in I assumed someone would come unload the trailer for me but they didn't. I had to call down to the office to get someone to come unload it. The Pelham, Alabama location is 3 blocks away from my shop, I will go to the Vestavia, Alabama location before I go back to the Pelham, Alabama location.GARY L.

Terrible experience - this location rented me a cargo van that they knew had a leaking tire and then when it went flat on me, roadside assistance couldn't dispatch a company that would even agree to work on commercial vehicles. The person at this location told me â€œYeah just put some air in the tire and you should be able to make it back. We've been having trouble with that tire.â€ When I went into the office to reconcile, they still wanted to charge me. Finally, after a discussion between the representative and their manager, they agreed to reimburse me for the rental. This experience still ended up costing me time, money, and hassle.Elliott D.

I was charged $20 for an after hour fee during regular store hours. I was also charged for a gallon of gas due to the gas hand being incorrectly noted on the return. The vehicle was brought back to the same amount just miles prior to its' return and I have the gas receipt to show for it. I called the store after receiving the emailed receipt to contest the charges. I was told that $24 and change would be credited back to my card. Vehicle was dropped off by the previous renters. Was given directly to me without going through a inspection. I left in it and had to put gas in it and it's wouldn't take the gas. Took me about 20 minutes to get up to a half of tank. It was on 1/4 when I picked it up. Tried another gas station and same result. It took me 45 minutes to get the tank full. 4 other cars filled up and left while I was pumping at the same pump.Jason T.

Ended up not using the storage because it was too far from the entrance to the unit for my husband to walk with his walker. Also needed a unit that was not as high and one with a wider roll up door. When I got the unit, I purchased one of the U-Haul locks that are sold at the counter. Once I put my belongings in the unit and locked it, the lock broke and broke one of the keys off inside. When I talked to the staff, they stated they could not do anything. When I called them on their bluff, they would not work with my schedule to have their locksmith come out and remove THEIR crappy lock. Thankfully, I was able to get my belongings out after trying for two months to get it off. My engineer friend was able to get the lock off and discovered that the lock was designed to break purposely. The female that checked me into my storage unit was not helpful whatsoever. She checked me into a unit that had a lock on it and the only option I had was to move all of my stuff upstairs into a unit that was way more expensive and then move my stuff back downstairs after a cheaper one opened up. After we asked if those were actually unlocked she said “ I don’t know. Feel free to go check.” And then we told her that we were about to be $90 for a storage unit I didn’t even want and just told her to cancel my subscription, then she stated she’ll “gladly” cancel it in a rude tone. I couldn’t even tell you her name because she never told me and wasn’t wearing a name tag. We also got stuck and couldn’t get out because there were 2 trucks trying to return their rental truck and she was taking forever to check them in. They sat there for at least 20 minutes and they were still sitting there waiting on her when we left. Extremely rude customer service. I have rented from this location several times. Never have I had a unit have a box spring left in the unit an not swiped out. In the hall way was a very dirt old mattress. It was overall okay, but the temperature definitely went above what was intended for the climate-controlled rooms (which is what I was paying for), there were always a lot of dead insects in the hallways, and no matter what I did--even being properly signed in and out each time--that alarm would CONSTANTLY go off when I unlocked my storage unit. This is a rating for the facility itself. The girls up front took a situation that was horrible by the UHaul.com AND UHaul call center, and turned it in to a pleasant experience. By a miracle, they were able to find the unit I requested and was extremely helpful. For UHaul having a website and a phone number that is directed to a call center, they are NOT unified with the processes and the procedures of each individual locations. If a location is not able to hold a storage unit, then the option should not be provided on the website. This can cause a very big mess when you have a truck of 26' that needs one of the biggest units and it not be available, causing the customer to pay more for a late fee or another day with the truck to search for another storage unit. When calling the call center they will make promises but not back up the promises with the actual location. So makes the location look inadequate when really it is the overhead call center not verifying with the workers on the ground floor. The problem we had was I had a confirmed reservation for the largest storage unit that was made about 2 weeks prior to the arrival. When we arrived we were told that such a unit was NOT available now nor had it been available when we made the original reservation. While cleaning out our “climate controlled” storage unit last week, we found the temperature to be hot & uncomfortable. We found a thermostat in the hallway near & within 50 feet +/- our unit and saw that the temperature in the hallways was 83 degrees! Of course, inside of our unit, the temperature was much hotter. We were there for several hours on 3/25/2020. We found the thermostat reading at the beginning of our time there. We called down to the local front desk and explained the temperature problem, as well as the thermostat reading, to a man there. We told him that since our unit was a “climate controlled,” inside unit, our expectation was that the temperature should be much cooler thank 83 degrees. He agreed and told me that he would send someone up “immediately” to check out the thermostat & to make any necessary repairs to it, or the cooling system, if necessary. We told him that in all of our previous visits to our unit during the 3 years that we had been renting it, the temperature had always been much cooler. He again confirmed that 83 degrees was definitely hotter than it should be in your climate controlled building & units. We worked in our unit for many hours, without leaving, after speaking to the man at the desk. No one ever showed up to check the thermostat, & the temperature stayed the same (hot!). Throughout our time there that day, I regularly checked the thermostat and it stayed around 83 degrees. We visited our unit several more times over the following few days until we completed the removal of our stored items. The temperature problem was not corrected up to and including our rent termination date of 4:03/2020. Our primary concern is not with our comfort while inside your supposedly climate controlled spaces, it’s with the integrity of our stored items. Because of the expensive value of the furniture & other items that we needed to store when we made the decision 3 years ago, we choose to pay more for a climate controlled unit to ensure protection of our belongings, all of which belonged to my wife’s deceased mother. While inspecting & removing the furniture items, it was apparent that a couple of items had heat-related damage, which we felt like we were avoiding by choosing & paying for ($199 per month). Of course, we are very unhappy about the damage, & are very dissatisfied with the product that we received from uHaul, who we thought we could trust with these valuable items.DON C. | Overall Experience
