Kelley TI had first rented a covered RV space with U-Haul at 1650 Southern Blvd in Rio Rancho, around the middle of 2018. At first the facility seemed safe and secure and most of the vehicles in the area were in good working order. At that time there were just a few RVs and boats that appeared to be not operable. My only concern was that having not operable and/or derelict vehicles parked at the facility would attract criminal activity to this area. Also access to the facility is using a key fob that opens the gate and not a code. While convenient, this does set up the ability for someone to either rent a space and get a key fob or give the key fob to someone unauthorized to gain access to the area. U-Haul states that you can only access the RV storage facility between 6am to 10pm. With the key fob you have access to the facility 24/7 365. This allows the unscrupulous individual to have access to the facility late at night or early morning. In May of 2023 an individual accessed the facility and stole my catalytic converter along with 5 others that day. I did file a police report and asked to have any camera footage sent to the police. I was never informed that they found and camera footage nor did it appear that anyone cut the fence to gain access. After the incident I did speak with the manager, JD Reardon and what the facility could do to enhance security so that this would be preventable in the future. I suggested that they needed to add barbed wire to the tops of the fence to deter access and possibly beefing up the chain link fence or replacing it with a stronger metal fence. I mentioned to JD that I was concerned about the number of older vehicles that appeared to be inoperable as this might be attracting criminals to the area knowing that the vehicles are not moved regularly. I also mentioned to the management team that someone with a blue Suzuki Samurai was living in one of their storage units. (He is constantly parked at the unit and has an air conditioner set up in the summer and heater in the winter and has his dog there as well.) I am sure that the contract for a storage unit does not include being able to live at the unit. Also, I am not sure why the person who was walking the area never saw this or that anything was ever done about it. I was told that U-Haul would look into sensors for the fence, more cameras and having someone walk the grounds each day. This seemed to be a long tedious process and I called numerous times to get updates. I was disappointed that U-Haul did not take a quicker response to having a more secure facility. Consequently, on Feb of 2024, someone again accessed the facility and once again stole my catalytic converter. Again I filed a police report and walked the grounds to see if there was a breach in the fence. I did not see evidence of a breach. After two thefts I have moved my vehicle to another facility that has better security, (stronger fence, on site security, personal code access that is regulated for limited entrance 6am to 10pm and requires that all vehicles be operable and have registration and insurance.) I have spent over $8,500 over the years to rent the space at U-Haul and thought that I should have a reasonable expectation to have my property be safe and secure. I also felt that U-Haul should have been more responsive to changes to provide a more secure and safe facility. I also asked that U-Haul take care of the cost of a new catalytic converter. When I was in the office one of the younger employees told me after discussing about having my converter stolen a second time, he quipped back to me with “what’s the big deal, just file a claim”. Now that is great customer service…..NOT! At the time I did speak with Danny Porras, President of Northern U-Haul, and he assured me that he would start the claim for me. I was informed within a few days that I was denied the claim even though I was told by Danny that they would handle it. Would I recommend U-Haul for storage of an RV? No, and I am not sure that I would even recommend using U-Haul to rent equipment or trucks or do any business with a company that has no regard for their customers. esperanza tThe good: Agent was friendly and seemed knowledgeable when I reserved the truck on highway 528 in Rio Rancho. He stated that the vehicle would be available at that location, as I had it set in my uhaul app as my preferred locale. Not so good: I arrived to pick up the vehicle at the hwy 528 store, only to find out the truck was at a different store across town. This gentleman was not as friendly, and seemed irritated I interrupted him for the moment. I'm the one who had to drive across town to get a vehicle I was promised to be at that location. The store at 1650 Southern Blvd was very nice and the agent was extremely helpful. Very friendly as well. He even mentioned I would get a text informing me of where to return the truck, which I did.

There is also obviously no one maintaining the property because there is someone cirrently living in the unit that was next to mine and no one seemed to care. I would never use this.location again. Over all a pretty bad experience

Felisha RI was very impressed with the U-Haul storage unit near Walmart on Unser. I used their indoors storage facility for about 9 months and I always felt safe there. I was also impressed with how clean they keep the facility. They offer free use of rolling carts inside the building which came in so helpful to me because I didn’t have any help moving out and had to move by myself. Everyday I borrowed their carts and moved as much stuff as would fit into my car. I’d go home and empty my car then come back and borrow the cart again. I did this for many days until I had emptied out my unit. It was so convenient for me. I highly recommend this facility! I would definitely use them again!

Seth WHad a wiring problem on my truck and the tech, wish I got his name, was able to basically rewire my hitch connection and got me going. In today’s world, I was literally shocked at his willingness and ability on a cold day to help me. This is my 3rd visit to this location and I would not consider going anywhere else!

William WWhen I went to put my stuff in the unit I rented that same day, I opened it up to a rodent poison box in a 5x5 unit. That in itself was a little off putting since it’s a tiny unit. Upon further inspection there was mouse poop all over the floor of the unit. There happened to be a second empty unit left open across from mine a little further up the row. I noticed a rodent poison box in that unit as well. Just from walking up & looking at it from the pathway could also see mouse poop in that unit as well. I Immediately made the decision to NOT put my items in the unit & went to the front office to speak with the employee. When informed of the problem He casually responded “well it is an outdoor unit” which took me back a bit. I let him know that I have held an outdoor unit in another town (different company) where I store all my work equipment for over 15 years and have never had an issue with mouse droppings in the unit so the fact that it’s outdoor has no bearing on the problem they are experiencing. I have stored items at this store a few times before, most recently about a year ago in the same unit block & Have never had an issues with the units but after this I did have to take my business elsewhere. Hopefully management decides that this is a big enough problem to do everything they can to get it under control before everyone’s stuff is completely ruined from the mice.

Donald BBeing they do not keep up with maintaining pest control I will never do business with uhaul again. My couch was ruined with mice feces. The customer service at this specific location I can't say was the best I called once about the cost increase and got a very rude lady should be recorded to my account. With that being said, you charged me more monthly to help with "supply on demand", but seen no sign of mice traps or anything that helps prevent pests. I used Pods before and regret not using the pod service this last time. I will be sure my friends and family use a different storage company if ever I will recommend Pods.

Lionel LI called 2 weeks before my move out on 12/16. The person on the phone told me that because my payment due date was on the 9th, I would not have to pay for December because of the grace period. I went into the facility a week later to be absolutely sure that I didn't have to pay for the seven days. The young gentleman at the desk told me again, that paying wasn't necessary due to the late grace period. On the 16th, I was set to move out and the desl person (Male, bald with a goatee) told me I needed to pay for a whole month and he said the unit would most likely be padlocked with their red lock for non-payment. I have never been late with a payment, to Uhaul or anyone else. He was very angry with me and apparently the young kid that "misinformed" me. It was not a pleasant experience. He was rude and accusatory. I will use a different Uhaul facility in the future. My past experiences have been great.

I rented a unit for a month and got a month free, but at the end of the first month they started adding late fees and put a lock on my unit so when my 2 months were up I couldn't get my stuff out. During this time I had devastating news from home and had to go to Oklahoma to be with family. I tried repeatedly to call U-Haul and could not speak with anyone there. I had to drive ALL THE WAY BACK to RIO RANCHO in order to keep my stuff from being auctioned off. When I pointed out THEIR mistake, I didn't get an apology,. All I received was a person telling me that I now I owe another $81 for not having my stuff out on time, the same stuff that they kept me from getting to. Then I was told to get all of my stuff off the premises before end of the day. My son and I got it done within the hour and I then had to return back to Oklahoma to finish up family matters. They wanted me to pay for their mistakes and treated me like **** !!!! I will never use them again..

The facilities were perfect for my husband and I and we were able to secure a unit that was on the ground floor(indoors) and very clean and easily accessible. The staff here are some of the friendliest people and helped us with the whole process even allowing us to bring our PODs and unload it to their storage which if I needed to do that again I will go with the UHAUL Box (instead of PODs)! However I was looking at outdoor storage for a travel trailer and although the spaces are large enough for my travel trailer, the space available to maneuver a vehicle with a trailer was not suitable for the location. The only access to the spot that we were assigned to would only be accessible with a small vehicle and not a travel trailer or even an RV. Therefore I cannot wholeheartedly give a five-star rating. I believe if information was available to employees prior to assigning outdoor storage, parking spots would be better utilized for access to vehicles that can actually fit.

January they raised my monthly rent. I sent emails several times requesting my rent not be raised but it was raised anyway.

It was broken into twice in a recent two month period, had items stolen, and the steering column damaged when attempting to hot wire and steal the RV. During the experience, the UHaul staff showed little concern over the situation. A few weeks later, we received a notice from UHaul the monthly rental fee was being increased. Needless to say, we found a more secure facility to store our RV.

Code Access only for each unit otherwise Security Alarm's would be set off if opened without access... As well as Security cameras. Security at other Storage places were not secure as three of my units at different places were broken into and of course although security measures were in place for some reason... they just weren't working during the time my stuff was taken... hmmm.... yeah.... but I'd definitely recommend this place . Great staff and clean accessible units!

The first month was free but when the bill came due for the second month, I was fighting wildfires out of state and charged a late fee. The billing was "fixed" with the same result the following month. Once it was "fixed" again, I got several threatening emails after about late fees. Fix your system. Stop stealing from and harassing your customers.

I’d rather have seen a security gate, that opens and closes, with a code, and a camera. Having the entrance open like that, I did not feel secure in leaving my worldly goods there. I never used the storage we rented, for this reason. I just waited out the month, and closed out my account. It was just too open for me.

After a long day of moving we arrived at the storage unit to unload our truck and our units still had locks on them. Our access key did not work as well and said denied when we swiped. There was a number to call and Josh showed up to unlock the units after a 15-20 minute wait. Even though the issue was resolved it was frustrating to arrive and not have access to our units.

The problem with that is the smaller units were harder to navigate with some of the furniture and other things we were storing.

Not long after I rented it, Uhaul rented it under me before I was able to move in. Nothing written or spoken that I had x-days to move in. Then, they claimed no record of my agreement. Spoke to Paula at Corporate who was extremely rude and she continued to raise her voice that I was wrong and I was responsible. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER Service!
