The location seems to be understaffed. There was only one person to open the contracts and checkout the equipment. The time I picked up was very early (there were not many people) and she was able to check me out relatively quick. However, when I came back a couple of hours later to return, there was already a line. Luckily , she saw me on line and told me to leave the equipment at the same spot and go home. I didn't have to wait for my time in the line. Have I gone at that time to pick the equipment up, I would be late for my other appointments.Luiz B.

No one tells us the 4 days rental starts from the time we picked it up (7a.m.), so we thought as long as we returned on day 4 we would be fine. Good experience. The 24/7 phone experience was a little cumbersome. There were several steps, like documentation, that could have been done in advance (maybe they could have been but it wasn't clear). Also, my pending receipt shows a fuel charge even though I put gas back in before dropping off. Also, the truck return area was filled with trucks when I dropped off. The location could have moved 1-2 trucks prior to closing to ensure there would be enough room for after-hours drop off.Andrew C.

The Benton Harbor location offered very poor customer service. The boxes did not arrive at our residence as scheduled and we were given no notice that they would be late. This delayed our move into the house by a day. In addition we were told that even though the boxes had arrived a day late we would have only one night to empty them. As a result we had to scramble to empty the containers late into the night. Contrary to what we were told, however, no one came the following day to pick up the empty containers. We then had to wait in an additional two or three days for someone to pick them up and we had to initiate the pick up with U-Haul. The level of customer service received from the Benton Harbor U-Haul facility was extremely poor and we will never patronize them again. In addition when we tried to contact the Benton Harbor facility directly, we were always automatically directed to the national headquarters and head to remain on hold for a minimum of 45 minutes.Peter B.

Truck was not cleaned out in the back as there was shelving , candy wrappers, dirt left in the back. They sent me out with a truck with a clearly, badly bent rear wheel...which I was told..."Oh its fine, you'll be alright" Needless to say, I was quite concerned on the 500 mile trip to Kentucky, which I might add, it rained the whole way ! While in Kentucky, contacted U-Haul to replace bent rim...which they did as soon as they could. The service tech Brent was great ! Rented a 15' truck, used the app to check in, inspect the truck and finalize my pick-up. Went in, got the keys, verified mileage and went to drive away and one of the staff came out and told me I had to switch trucks (there was nothing wrong with the one I was in). I protested, but was told it was not going to be a problem (not a problem for them, I was already running late, so the addition 15-20 minutes was a problem for me). Got the other truck but had no way to go back in the app and document it. It was GROSS inside the cab and had some moving kit bolted inside the truck. I asked them to remove that because I didn't want to have to work around it and they refused at first (finally, begrudgingly, they removed it). I left with the truck and went and got some disinfectant wipes to clean the cab and after driving it for a bit the stench of the, I'm guessing air freshener, started making my and my friends eyes water. Took over 1 hour for your call center to answer my call to reserve a truck. My final bill sent to me twice from your call center was not legible. The repeated long wait on phone is unacceptable. The customer service representative Eric who checked me in at the store site was very helpful. The previous night I spoke with a customer service representative by phone in the U-Haul call center and in speaking with him I requested if I could extend my truck return time at no charge and he assured me that that would not be a problem. he offered to extend my time to 5 PM with no charge. I clarified with him that there would be no charge and he assured me it was a courtesy and there would be no charge. When I arrived at the store apparently that conversation with the call center had not been noted on my account and the system charge me $54 for the time extension Eric was very helpful and courteous and rectifying the problem for me and helping me to choose a storage unit that suited my needs. He was also helpful and getting the truck maneuvered to where I could unload easily. Eric is a very helpful courteous and respectful customer service representative.
