First I’ll talk about how there’s no light in the storage unit the string broke when I tried to turn it on the bulb did not light up the rubber on the bottom of the door of my storage unit is hanging off, and I had to remove the snow with my feet. Rep promised me to cover an additional day and the miles due to the schedule conflict. My reservation never got confirmed from U-Haul. So I went to the location I reserved with, was sent to the location I rented from. Was there for over an hour. He kept helping walk ins instead of finishing my paperwork. Other locations I’ve rented from in the past I’m in and out within 5-10 minutes, no issues. Then find out he changed it to a one day rental when my original reservation was for 2 days. Just terrible.

When I drove off in the van that I rented within 20 mins of having it the low tire pressure went off for the front left tire. I had to stop and pay $2.50 to inflate the tire And then after inflating the front tire an hour later the back right tire was showing low tire pressure and had to also inflate that and pay another $2.50 to inflate that one. Then after inflating them and finishing my tasks I parked the van for the night then in the morning both tires were extremely low and once again had to fill it up with air and pay $3 for air. It was so inconvenient and these tires definitely had this issue prior to me renting them which was not addressed and unconvinced me in the process of an already chaotic day. The last thing I wanna do after moving all day is stop to fill a car that’s not mine up with air.

This Markham location was very good Thanks to the help of Eryn. However my overall experience with my reservation, I would have to rate very Poor! I received an email for my reservation #84797002 that I was supposed to pick up the 26 foot truck at the 8900 S. Cicero location in Oaklawn, which is only about ten minutes from my house. When I got there about 10:00am which was my pick-up time on Sunday August 24th the Uhaul young lady informed me they didn't have my 26ft truck there but they had reserved one for me at a location on Ogden Ave and when she tried to call there she saw they were closed on Sundays. So then she was able to reserve one at the Markham location, which is 25 minutes from my house.
In the email I received it said I was to pick up the truck at the Oaklawn location and someone was to call me on Saturday the 23rd before 5:00pm about the details of my reservation. I never received that call so I had no way of knowing there was a change in location for the truck pickup, especially after the email that said I was to pick up the truck at the Oaklawn location.
This whole pickup mishap set us back about two hours picking up the truck in Markham and getting back to my home in Evergreen Park. And therefore reaching our final destination Lake Geneva, Wisconsin at 8:15pm instead of what could of been 6:15pm, and had more time to unload in the daylight instead of the dark.
I feel we should be given some type of credit for this great inconvenience by Uhaul. Bob Morlan

Had it not been for her quick resolution skills I would have missed my scheduled pickup times that were set for another location all the way in SKOKIE IL. The customer service was very poor. The rep didn’t give thorough instructions on the rental and return process. The rep didn’t give me a printed receipt nor contract. I never received an email with my reservations nor contract detail. My reservations were for 30 minutes before closing. The lights did not work properly on the trailer I reserved. The rep assisting me left me outside behind the facility and said they would be right back upon seeing the issue and never returned. I walked back to the front and the doors were locked. Eventually, someone opened the door and I found out the rep had completely forgotten about. She didn’t work to resolve the issue and I had to leave the facility with a poorly operating trailer. Overall, it wasn’t a very unpleasant experience and I will never use this facility again.

The attendant that assisted us was very kind and helpful. However, he had to toggle between myself and other customers which was a bit frustrating. Everyone was really nice, but they seem very slow in completing transactions with customers. Yes, I would recommend others to this location and I would hope that they would be able to get some additional assistance in the store to help customers more promptly.

Transmission seemed to be slipping in the truck. Also, was told by employee that the trucks get 30 mpg. NOT TRUE! Second employee had no idea what the mpg should be. I went 36 miles and refilled with 4 gallons. Something was wrong. I am 72. Never went over 60mph. and 1/2 of the driving was highway. Less than 10 mpg!!!! Not good.

Everyone was super helpful. Employee hooked and unhooked the trailer for me.
One small problem. When they hooked up the trailer, they didn't tighten it enough. I got 3 blocks away, hit a small bump (seam) in the road. And the trailer dropped. It was hardly tightened at all. I could yank and pull it off.
Please make sure staff tightens trailer properly and that tools for them are easily accessible.

Rayshawn was tremendous. He is the Asst Manager at the facility. He helped me over the phone to arrange after hours access. In person he expedited the return of my trailer, helped me get extra supplies, worked on the lights when they weren’t working in my corridor. At the counter he serves more than one customer at a time, letting customers with straightforward requests be helped quickly while also solving a complex problem for another customer. When I wanted to switch to a larger storage unit he arranged that and completed all the paperwork quickly and efficiently. He does the work of two employees, regularly coming out of the office to work in the yard or the storage facility all while darting back into the office to man the desk when needed. Please give him a raise! He made my experience at the Canterbury location outstanding.

My contacts with staff were a mix of good interactions and no way am I listening/talking with you. I am ignoring anything/everything you say. I had negative responses that were much worse at other storage sites. Fortunately, the owner was present for my final visit here. I had paid a full extra month. I had been told I would get at least half of the next month’s extra payment back. I was refunded the full extra month’s payment. The owner took charge of the review of payments and awarded me the full month overpayment. I felt as though I was treated fairly. Perhaps she was a new employee who erred.

The doors to the storage units were very weak and flimsy. They can easily be kicked in even with a lock on. The wait time for service was often very long in the office and the man at the desk made many errors at check-in that caused him to restart my transaction multiple times before finalizing. Staff were short with their answers and would walk away when trying to ask them questions or get clarification. Lastly, I was not able to reach anyone via phone at the office and was routed to the main uhaul number every single time causing me to have to find time to come in before they close at 7 PM which I never had time to do to ask simple questions that were never answered. At check-in, I asked for 24/7 Access and was told the computer wasn't working properly and that I would be able to add that later. I was never able to reach anyone by phone and when I did come down one day an associate told me she would add 24/7 Access to my unit, but didn't. Dealing with uhaul for my out of state move has been a very miserable experience from truck rental in CT, to storage in Illinois to truck rental in Illinois. Staff are rude and practices are not transparent leaving the customer feeling uneasy. I would never deal with uhaul again and I will ensure no one I know deals with you either. Further I will be leaving reviews on other platforms.
