The poor rating is solely based on my experience during the return of the vehicle. I rented the vehicle the day before around 4 pm. I clearly stated that I would be using the vehicle for about 8 hours. I was told that I had to return it in the morning because the location closes at 7:00 or 8:00 pm. I told him that I should be back before 12:00 pm the next day even though I was paying for a full 24 hours. I asked if I could leave my car there and the salesperson said yes. I purchased two 50 feet nylon ropes and was told if I did not use them I could return them and be refunded. The salesperson who rented the vehicle was effective, efficient, and entirely professional. The two Uhaul employees who were present when I dropped of the vehicle were not attentive, dismissive, and simply not professional. I received a phone call a few minutes prior to 12 pm on the day that I was supposed to return the truck even though I only had the truck for about 20 hours. I told them that I was putting gas in and would be there in ten minutes. When I arrived at the Uhaul office one of the employees seemed to have been completing a transaction with another customer and the other employee was sitting and 100% attentive to his cell phone (checking messages or playing a game); he may have looked up once. I don't know if this is consistent with Uhaul's standards. I was eventually attended to by the other employee. I immediately told him that I was returning the two 50 feet nylon ropes that I purchased but did not use. He took the ropes and informed me that he could only accept one of them because the other was used. I asked why. His response was because a piece of the plastic covering was missing. My response was that its obvious that I did not use it because it is perfectly configured exactly like the other one. Additionally, I stated that the portion of the plastic that was off could have been given to me like that. The employee who was previously busy on his phone eventually walked outside with me to inspect the vehicle. Immediately when I stepped outside I noticed that the liftgate on the truck was open and the hand truck was not inside. I immediately asked him if one of the other employees opened the liftgate and removed the hand truck, he said that he did not know. I had to pass the back of the truck before entering the office, so it is highly unlikely that I would not have noticed that I had driven the truck with the liftgate open. He then went on to check the gas and return without communicating anything to me. I asked him again to find out if another employee opened to truck and removed the hand truck. When we returned inside, he asked the other employee if he had gone outside and removed the hand truck. I was confused by this because we were all in the office together and nobody had gone outside before we did. However, this confirmed that this employee was busy on his phone and totally not paying attention. I found it hard to believe that I drove there, which was about 3/4 of a mile from the gas station (where the lift gate was securely closed) with an open lift gate. Assuming that someone stole the hand truck after I parked at the property, I asked if they had video of the outside. He looked at his computer and eventually showed me a picture or video of a truck with an open lift gate. I did tell them that the western approach to the facility was an unpaved rocky road and the lift gate may have opened there and the hand truck could have slid out (I did not believe this but it seemed plausible). I then went outside to see if the hand truck had dropped out on the rocky road; I did not see it. They told me that I would not be charged for the hand truck. I said thank you and waited for my receipt. They informed me that it would be emailed. I asked them to close the contract out and give me the receipt before I left. it took a few minutes but I eventually got the receipt. They initially told me that it was emailed to the address on file. Their printer was out of paper and they had to retrieve some from upstairs. When I reviewed the receipt, I immediately realized that I had been charged for two days of rental. This was a problem because I had the truck for less that one day (less than 24 hours). I was also charged $18.00 for gas when I thought I had brought the truck back with sufficient gas. This was never explained to me because I would have returned to the gas station to put in the additional gas instead of paying a premium for it. The employee said that was a system error but he would remove the charge for the second day. I was wondering if he was going to refund the money to my debit card and then charge it again. He never explained this and then proceeded with the refund. He then told me that I would now have to pay for the hand truck. I was not happy with this decision but I was in a difficult situation to mount any objection. I did ask the employee if the picture that I saw on his computer was me approaching with the truck or was it after I had already parked the truck. He stated that it was with me approaching and the lift gate was already open. As I suspected the charge was refunded to my debit card and then my debit card was charged again. Once again there was no explanation of communication because I would have preferred for the money to be refunded and for me to pay with a credit card instead. However, since the refund had happened and the new charge, with $120.00 for the hand truck, was already on the debit card I inquired about how long would it take for the refunded amount to be returned to my debit card. The employee stated that it usually takes a few minutes or at most a few hours to be returned. I simply had zero confidence in his answer because I had experienced this before. Another employee eventually showed up to help him, I then asked her the question about the refund and she said it was up to my bank when I would see the funds returned to my account. I then told the employee who had given me incorrect information it would have been better for him to say that he did not know and then ask somebody else. I have rented with Uhaul on multiple ocassions over the years. My daughter (Alexandria Major) recently rented a truck and a hitch in Norfolk Virginia and we drove all the way to Miami and actually returned the truck at this current location; this experience was pleasant on both ends. My son recently had to move from Charleston SC to Norfolk VA and we rented a truck from Enterprise. This was also a very pleasant experience. Needless to say that I am deeply disappointed in the service that I received upon returning the vehicle. The lack of professionalism and concern was nothing like I had experienced before. My wife and I will be relocating out of the state of Florida next year and based on the service that I received makes it certain we will explore other options to help us with our move. Carmen DDear Customer Service Quality Managers at U-Haul: I wish to bring to your attention a disagreeable and impertinent incident I experienced while returning a rented van yesterday, January 24, 2025, before 5:00 PM. The store attendant reversed a large U-Haul vehicle, which he was driving, into my car, damaging the front protective grille. Not only did he fail to acknowledge the damage, but when I requested to speak with a supervisor, the individual, whom I believe is incorrectly titled as a supervisor, handled the situation by phone. This person, supposedly more trained than the frontline staff, did not accept responsibility for the damage and stated that the matter needed to be handled by the police for U-Haul's insurance to apply, and that I should be the one to call them since I am making the claim. This situation is highly disappointing, particularly for a company as large as U-Haul, which employs individuals not focused on properly serving its customers. What's worse is that we are neighbors; I am a Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Doral, and my office is located very near. Due to this incident, I will not recommend your office to any of my contacts or friends, as it employs incompetent staff who do not take responsibility for their acts of aggression, mistreatment, and indifference towards clients.

MARLON MI was given an upstairs unit. The elevator was consistently broken which required me to make many sweaty, dangerous trips up and down the stairs. Lots of excuses from the staff and lots of extra work on my part. Fortunately, i am able bodied and not infirm or elderly with small children in tow. I submitted a complaint to corporate and seek compensation for my continued inconvenience.
