The gate did not always open or close properly. Checkout was handled poorly. I provided the lock, my name, and unit number upon moving out several days ahead of my payment date. The contract was not properly closed by the staff so it appeared as if I hadn’t paid expected rent. This resulted in multiple phone calls and letters being sent to me. I called and confirmed that I had moved out and there was no lock. The manager stated there was one on the unit but when I came in to the office, another person went to the unit and confirmed no lock and nothing left in the unit. Even after this confirmation and a move out receipt, I was still called afterward. Then was told I got the call due to a clerical error. Unnecessarily stressful move out.

I was charged for 2 full days - when if showed up to the main office to pickup at 12.57 and the person at the front desk takes some minutes to give me the dolly and other stuff ( there missing some items ) so we expend some minutes to figúrate where to get the missing items and then I got the keys and they ask me to go a look the truck inside the place and after 10 min of looking and trying and showed up again to front desk and the guy just told me sorry it’s outside in front. So I start to use the truck at 1.34 pm and I returned next day at 1.17pm - so for me it’s not fair to be charged to a second full day.

I don’t remember the name of the gentleman that helped me he was very kind, but he did not tell me about the pre-check text link that I was supposed to do nor did he tell me there would be steps that I had to do in the U-Haul app when I dropped it off, which is frustrating because I overestimated my miles in hopes that I would get a reimbursement and instead of getting a reimbursement I ended up with the $20“convenience fee“ for after hours check-in because I wasn’t able to check it back in on my phone in the app an hour and a half after I had actually dropped it off when I realized I was supposed to to do it. Now, I’m sure that this information is in the rental agreement that I have, but if your employees are going to highlight things and zip through highlights of that rental contract with the customer, then those things need to be stated in that spiel. Also, the parking arrangement is awful. Every U-Haul ive ever picked up from I was able to leave my car at and there are maybe three spots which makes it impossible if you have to do things like this by yourself, I’m thankful I had another person with me so we could go drop my car off somewhere else. There should be customer parking in the back or something

This is getting an average rating for a very specific reason that doesn't have to do with the U-Haul Store in Mountainbrook (they were great). My problem with this U-Haul's scheduling system. I booked a 20' truck to be picked up at 7:00 AM. On the contract they sent me, it had a very clear pick-up and drop off location. I went to the pick-up location on my contract (which was NOT the Mountainbrook location), which is an independent U-Haul contractor. He didn't seem to know what was going on because he didn't have my contract or truck. We ended up calling U-Haul to figure out what had happened, after about an hour or so of back and forth, someone at U-Haul finally realized that my truck and reservation had been sent to the Mountainbrook store, even though my contract was for the independent contractor's location. We drove five miles across town to Mountainbrook and they had us in and out in 15 minutes...but we had a huge hassle and lost 2 hours of our packing time over their scheduling error. Truck was great. Clean, well maintained, ran well, and decent fuel economy. Mountainbrook store was also great...they had us in and out quickly and were super friendly.

Check-in was very easy and the attendant was very helpful in hooking up the trailer and making sure it was in working order. When I returned the trailer I notified the attendant the lights were not working. He did not check to see if it was my connection or the trailer. It would have been good to know that in the future.

Very good location. But I don’t like how the person added 30miles drive for myself automatically. I didn’t know that I would have to pay extra because of that. So I ended paying 80 dollars in which I am not very happy. I wish they would have given me a heads up, because I only drove less than 10 miles, so that’s very unfair paying for extra 20 that I didn’t even use it. I almost open a ticket to ask if I could get reimbursed. I only spent 2 dollars of gas.

The truck I got blew the front left tire within the first 10 minutes of driving. I was stuck on the side of the road for 3 hours waiting for roadside assistance to come help. It was extremely dangerous and could have really caused major damage. Luckily I was able to control the truck and get off the road. Could have just been bad luck but I really wish I could get some kind of compensation for this issue. Not only was I put in a dangerous situation but I was also extremely delayed causing my whole schedule to have to shift.

First time renting a U-Haul and it was a positive experience. Received a text the day prior telling me my reservation was confirmed. When I arrived early on pick-up day, they had the exact truck ready for me and it was in great condition. Got charged the correct amount and was treated respectfully by the staff on-site. Can't speak for returns since I was going out of state, but overall very happy with the service I received.

We were not happy with the estimated cost for transport. We travelled the same distance two weeks ago but between different locations and the amount was around $1000. The $2000 charge seems overpriced for this trip given that we rented a 10 foot truck again and travelled the same distance as we did previously. As a teacher, who has to wait until school gets out to rent and use a UHaul, it seems unfair that we are taking advantage of since we can only rent vehicles in the summer months when school gets out. I would not recommend using UHaul again and would price other transport companies first before coming back to UHaul.

The truck they gave to me had the back door all the way open (it was raining and blowing) so it was very wet and not clean (leaves and debris). I couldn't go back to let the person working there know as there were three other people standing in line and I didn't have the time. When I return, the gentleman working behind the counter did not check me in and just took my keys and said I was good to go. I had not way of disputing the charges there. They also overcharged me by charging me 2 days of rental. I rented it on 5/30/26 at 7:35am and returned it on 5/30/26 at 4:55pm. Per my phone call with them, they said a day charge is 24 hours. The person on the call was not helpful and wouldn't provide any further contact information to dispute the extra charge.

When I picked up the first trailer at this location (5x8) and started to drive away with it, it began shaking as I picked up speed as if it had a flat tire (but it didn't). I suspect some kind of axle problem since there was no obvious visible cause. I had to return the trailer and was preparing to go to another location since that was the only trailer this location had available when I rented it. Thankfully, another one was returned just before I came back to return the damaged trailer. Still, it wasted an extra 30-45 minutes of my time to diagnose the issue, return to the store, cancel the first rental, and go through an entirely new rental process again. And if I hadn't seen the other trailer and asked about it, they would not have offered it to me. Not impressed with this location overall due to lack of initiative. Will not use again despite its convenience.

The door was a little stiff and was rough to pull down. Also with the 6 x 12 the tongue weight is a little heavy and may need to look into adding the lift the crank to make it easier for others that might not be able to lift it on the ball of the receiver.

The representative, Twantha, also known with the nickname T, took me around in her golf cart and showed me several units so as to match me with a unit that best suited my needs. I ended up in a large, climate controlled unit on the street level. I found the property clean and well maintained. I found the lighting in the interior hallways and inside the units to be sufficient, with the lighting in the individual unit operating on a timer. The provided four wheeled float was nice for moving things into the unit. The doors from outside are nice and wide to accommodate many household items. The HVAC unit was cooling nicely the first day I was moving in and had frozen up the next day. I reported it to the manager, T, and she immediately sent a request to have it repaired. There are clean restrooms on site which was convenient and beneficial. I like that the property is behind a fence and gates and can be accessed with a remote control. Although storage is very expensive here, it’s both convenient and nice for a storage facility. I would recommend to anyone asking that they use this property for their storage needs.

The comments above relate to the U-Haul employee in Auburn, AL. The Birmingham employee was professional and helpful. When I arrived at Auburn location to pick up my truck at time promised via my reservation, no truck was available. The attendant was very unprofessional and rude. He gave me no explanation as to why my truck was not available, and he gave me no alternatives. I was able to find a Penske truck so my trip was not a total loss.

This U-Haul location provided the best experience for moving needs and everything we needed was readily available from trucks, vans, large rental unit, packing supplies as well as available carts to easily transport our belongings from vehicle to unit and vice versa. The lack of customer service is atrocious! Especially the older lady in the office. Who rolls her eyes and doesn’t even speak back but sucks her teeth at you. Coupled with the high incompetence level I am surprised y'all are still in business. From the moment I rented the unit there were mess up after mess up after mess up. Not once has anyone apologized or even tried to resolve or compensate me for the additional money I had to pay due to the staff’s failure to complete tasks properly or even apply payments correctly. They either ignored me all together or told me not thier problem. I will never us U-Haul ever again.

I purchased a climate controlled unit and upon viewing, I noticed the building was very warm. Upwards of 90 degrees. I specifically told the guy showing the unit, manager Eric Bailey, that I needed a unit that was climate controlled due to my products that would melt and spoil in warm weather. Eric assured me that the air conditioner had been fixed that day and the building would soon cool down. I took him at his word and purchased the unit. A few hours later I returned and the building was warmer than before. It actually was hotter in the building than it was outside and it was mid 80s outside. I called the 280 Uhaul office and spoke with a girl there and she informed me that the air conditioner had been broken for 2.5 weeks and still wasn’t fixed but should be fixed by tomorrow (today, Saturday). This means that Eric wasn’t forthright about the building air working and sold me a unit under false pretenses. He wasn’t honest about the conditions of my unit and I had to spend the rest of my day moving my items that would melt and spoil from that storage unit to another one at a different facility. This took up time I needed to do other things and now, I’m going to have to take off work again next week to move everything from that unit. This is a major inconvenience for me. I paid for a climate controlled unit and that’s not what I got and I am requesting a full refund. I called Uhaul customer care and informed them of this issue. I was told that they are doing what they can to handle and that someone would contact me next week.

Everyone was amazing. I had to help my daughter move her apartment and Eric was friendly. Latwantha was very informative and friendly and I didn’t get the other young lady’s name who was there but she was extremely sweet and helpful. Everyone needs a formal recognition for their amazing attitude and work ethic.

This is the place to store items because of its LOCATION ON 280 and 459 only A QUARTER MILE AWAY. ALSO THE SUMMIT IS JUST ACROSS THE ROAD AND A LARGE SHELL STATION IS ON THE STORAGE LOCATION.

Back gate doesn’t ever work with key fob. I also had to call and get set back up on auto pay because I was taken off when the price increased but nobody told me it would do that. I also have to apparently come back in and sign a rent agreement on a unit I’ve been renting for 4 years which doesn’t make sense to me.

I reserved the unit well in advance and wanted inside, first floor, however we ended up getting an outside unit that was very dirty with an area in the corner that clearly leaked water...we told the staff and took pictures before we moved in, but they said they didn't have another option. At that point, there was nothing we could do since we had to move out and had a truck full of our stuff!! Then, when we moved out of the storage unit, our belongings were visibly filthy and there were bugs in the unit and in our stuff. We were not surprised, since the area that was wet when we moved our stuff in was never repaired, and was open for bugs to get in. Also, horrible customer service! Whenever i call, it rings forever, like 20-30 minutes, and eventually goes to the central UHaul number, not the actual location! If we can't get an inside, first floor unit next spring, we will not be renting from you again! We rented the year before (summer 2020) and had no problems. Our unit was an inside unit and very clean, no bugs. We were super disappointed this year!

The day of my check out I went to the office and told them I needed to check out, the employee asked me my unit number and said she would contact me if there were any issues. The month goes by, didn't hear anything and all of a sudden I'm getting emails saying I'm late paying my storage. I'm sure she forgot or just didn't bother closing my unit out. After just moving this was not a stress I needed added on..

Minor issue when I was checking out. They wanted to look at the empty unit after I had moved out, and when I notified them that we were out, they were too busy to look, but promised to look later and let me know via email if there were any issues. Imagine my surprise 4 days later when my C card got auto billed for the next month charges. They fixed it right away after I let them know, but if I hadn't caught it I'd been out another $190.00. Holly was super friendly and helpful.

The current Manager is poor. Bathrooms are filthy, no soap, sometimes no TP. Lights out in hallways and unit. Cars parked everywhere limiting movement. Six years in that unit and I left due to her.
