Zeke LMy experience with the trailer was fine, however where my experience was bad was with the staff. My reservation was for 4pm, I had an appt. to pick something up with the trailer at 5pm, by the time the staff was able to process my reservation and get me hooked up to the trailer it was 4:45. When they finally did process my order, they told me "it made you buy the 8 dollar insurance, I dont know why" after they had run my card, it's only $8 but not appropriately handled especially given the wait. Additionally, the staff seemed extremely unsure how to hook up the toy hauler trailer and proceeded to hook up the safety tethers incorrectly, I corrected this after they came off going down the road. Nothing wrong with this location, they just need to be given some training on customer service and I hope this is taken as positive criticism, I rent here a lot.
Elliot ZWhen I walked into the facility at about 6:15 there was no one behind the counter, a few minutes later a young man came in totally ignored. I waited about 30 to 45 seconds and asked him if there was anyone that could help me he pretended like he didn't know what I was talking about I repeated myself and he said everyone was out helping customers and he continued to fiddle faddle behind the counter. After about 4 or 5 minutes he asked if he could help me. I said I was here to pick up a van I had made reservations on my U-Haul app but it wasn't showing up. He asked for my name and was able to find it. He gave me the keys and said it's over there behind this truck behind this van and I said can you please show me where it's at and he took me to the van. I left your location and was a mile from my house when the dashboard lit up check tires system monitor. It was going on 6:30 6:40 I immediately called your location and was sent to someone off site who was very helpful very polite told me to take the van back immediately or they could call mobile service and they would assist me in replacing the van. He also was able to put me in touch with someone at the location who told me that I would have to pay mileage and I said well I'm not paying that this is your maintenance problem not mine and they hung up on me. When I got back to the facility I was speaking with a young woman and she said we will have to run this on your credit card and then we will give you another van and again I said well that's not fair I shouldn't have to pay for your maintenance problem this is not my fault I need a van in good condition. She then proceeded to go to the door open it and tell me that I can go fine another place to service me and I said wait a minute I need a van I have reservations for one and I want a van and I said I will take it up with corporate on Monday. She then proceeded to tell me well she Will do me a big favor and the van that she's giving me I will only have to bring it back with a quarter tank of gas and I will have $20 posted back to my credit card which she did do. The point is I was so rudely treated I have never been treated like that and I was in sales for 26 years and would never treat a customer that way. I would truly appreciate a call from your corporate office not from the Waterford U-Haul location. Thank you, Fran Stocker 248-505-8088

MARK ASome times difficult to reach staff who were in charge of the RV parking area. Had issues with remote fob which quit working for a while. Should provide power 24/7 not just 2 hours per day.

I had to call the national number and spend 30 minutes getting transferred three times to get someone to agree to the original agreement.

GORDON LService Airbag light was on at pick-up and remained on during rental period. Service Engine light was on at pick-up and remained on during rental period. Drivers side door did not close properly and the seal was nearly off - leaving safety concerns and huge wind noise. Smelled of cigarettes. Vehicle was clean, but that odor is stock in cockpit. All feedback provided verbally to the assistant when the truck was returned. While the vehicle worked, never trusted it given the poor shape and service lights.

JALEN LOn the first attempt to rent a unit, they told me the trailer wearing on my truck was not working so we unhooked the rental unit. I went back home and got my other truck when I came back hooked up to the same unit and they said oh apparently this one doesn’t work so they guided me over to a second one I hooked up to it. They went to check the lights and found there was absolutely no lights installed in the unit they were missing so finally on the third unit. They got it hooked up and everything was good. I proceeded on my way only to find out a couple hours later that that unit did not have working tail lights only brake lights and turn signals after returning home and checking my original vehicle for rental all wearing on my truck is fine. The problem is not with my truck. Another issue I had was with the employee side when I went to rent it he said you have to have it back by 3:30. I said why you guys don’t close till seven he says no we close at 3:30. I said well your website says 7 PM on Sunday. he says well we close at 3:30 upon returning the unit at almost 530. I found the store to still be open And playing with neither friendly or helpful behind the counter.

Paul N | First ImpressionsThe alarm system and access system is a little tricky. Take some time to get to know the system. And the deadline for the environment controlled inside storage units is really inconvenient. You should be able to get to your storage unit at any time. But at 10 o'clock and you know you might have to get to your storage unit after 10 o'clock. And it just becomes an issbecause the building. Alarm is set at 10 o'clock so I was like man. This is bad. So I'll let internet. I have no other complaints.

John TThere were a couple minor maintenance issues with the truck I rented (squeaky brakes and a turn signal bulb that's going bad), and the initial reporting on the fuel gauge was a little higher than the actual fuel value. But all of those minor issues were either taken care of or noted for future addressing. 100% of the staff I interacted with were very friendly, and the process itself was straightforward and well-guided. Overall, I had a great experience. The only real improvement I can see being made is more preventative maintenance on the vehicles themselves. 9 out of 10.
BRANDON MThere was no maintenance done on my truck before renting it out to me. It broke down on me and I had to spend 6 hours waiting for somebody to come fix it. Wish that cost me my moving time and money to pay someone to help me move. We rented the car early afternoon and we didn't get back on the road till it was dark outside because of this issue.

ROBERT LOn phone staff do not know industry terms for a high cube van…I stated I want to put a queen size mattress on edge…..she said no problem..it was a problem because I measure and cubed out my load..to more time and time is money Vehicle had damage that I had to validate through a text AP…was not aware I would need to do…added a half hour to arrive wait in line and check out process Vehicle should not have placed into service…should have been validated in advance …it is not for customer to figure out and as day goes on…at a glance looked OK, but it was not Moulding for back doors came off in its entirety when bump d by a head…had to install which led to degraded, rotten rubber getting on our hands and mattress Back doors came off of swing hinges…attachments were broken that once opened were not closing..someone just pushed it together opposed to repairing and passed along… Some much air freshener in vehicle could not keep windows up without getting a headache Returning the vehicle tried to communicate dissatisfaction…one staff became irate and confrontational…”why did you take it” If I knew what was to come I wouldn’t have. I expect equipment to ready to go and I should have received a walk around by the staff it is good to go. I received neither. We only have time to do want I came to do… My experience in Grand Rapids was complete opposite of Waterford.

JAMIE MThe services at this location were great but my rating is reflective of the atmosphere. The counter space was cluttered and the building was a bit rank. It smelled of moisture and a very off putting bad odor. Possibly mold or something of the sort. A deep cleaning is in order at this location to ensure a clean and welcoming experience.

LARRY GTruck was old and raggedy as well as the dirty trailer with its rusted straps. And the location can improve by not telling customers that the mileage the didn’t use would be reimbursed.
SHARA DBetter customer service. I was sent out the door to find the truck in a huge lot. Also, there were features on the truck I didn’t know how to use. I’ve rented before and was shown to the truck and what the features were. It was helpful and made it a great experience. Would have appreciated that again.

FRANCISCO JThe truck we were given had a broken drivers seat. The driver side door was so smashed in it wouldn’t shut completely, therefore it was a miserably loud ride. It was like being in a wind tunnel.that along with a broken front seat made a horrible trip. 8 hours round trip. I expected more from uhaul. This was a wreck.

JULIE AI came in the entrance from Cass Lake Rd and there was a sign indicating I could return equipment at that entrance but once I got into the yard I didn't see any more signs indicating I needed to travel to the other side of the yard for turn in. The staff was understanding and helpful in directing me to the right place after I got to the office. This is minor but I wanted to mention it for the next person that has never been to the lot before.

I appreciated we were able to rent a truck (twice) last minute and rent a unit. My only suggestion is to get more furniture dollies. We took the last one and I heard someone come behind us who couldn’t get one because you were out. Your location also did not have blankets for rent. I understand people steal them but they should be charged and the items replaced. Overall, you run a great operation!

I made two other purchases the guy that helped with the second item was watching tiktok videos on his phone though the whole transaction he never really looked up. We decided to get boxes for dishes none of the three worker was willing to come out from behind counter to help instead they stood in a crowd watching videos on the guys phone. My fiance had demand help from one the girls that upset her she had a attitude the time when helping us. We tried to get information on where the alarm was located they gave vague directions. The whole time we were there three of the staff members were very unprofessional. The girl that rented us the unit was the only member willing to give any help. I will not recommend this business to anyone. I have used this business for years I didn't know your customer service had declined to this point.

The smell from plumbing problems is unbearable. Way overpriced. Totally understaffed. Very unprofessional staff. I would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone. I also asked the hours for storage, we had a flood and needed to make sure we could move everything in, they said 24 hours with my code. We did quite a few loads but came with another after 11 and could not access.

JOHN M | Overall ExperienceThe local guys were fine outside of missing a hole in the gas tank of a 20 foot trailer that we had already loaded so it had to be unloaded by a group that U-Haul provided which destroyed most of our furniture. They loaded a 27 foot truck in three hours. They just threw our stuff on there which we didn’t know until we unloaded it in Michigan And the gas mileage was terrible. Truck ran like crap. Bounced me like crazy! I’ve used U-Haul for years and never had this bad experience. The Oklahoma manager, Nathan French was outstanding, but he could only do so much.

We ate nit "dumping trash" type of people and were put off by being accused of that when a staff member told us that we could leave usable furniture in the garage because "other customers will usually take it and sometimes the staff will as well" only to receive a phone call saying we would be fined for "dumping". Train your employees to avoid this in the future.

KAREN M | Overall ExperienceMy husband I accidentally left 2 suitcases in the van. We weren't even aware of it. Uhaul called and told us. I informed them I was disabled and my husband was out of town working. I informed them that I was unable to come and get the suitcases due to my disability. But, that my husband would when he returned. They said they would hold them for us. My husband also talked to them via phone while he was out of town as I had informed him of the situation. They informed him also that they would hold the suitcases for us. When he returned and went to uhaul to pick up the suitcases they were not there he was told. No one knew what happened to them. Everyone was playing dumb. Everyone we spoke too was unconcerned and didn't have any explanation for our missing suitcases. As the content in the suitcases were many brand new clothing items and shoes I know the suitcases disappeared because of this fact. Also in the suitcases were very important documents. I am still highly upset about how our suitcases just disappeared after we were assured by staff at the uhaul facility that they would be there for us to pick up when my husband returned. I would not recommend uhaul to any one because they are untrustworthy and do not care about the safety of individuals personal belongings. Nor do they stand by and honor their word.

aslynn r | Overall ExperienceI have never been so disappointed and upset with the unprofessionalism that they displayed in my life! 1st I called to setup the reservation, have the screenshot on my phone of the times and at the end of our conversation, with your customer service rep. She tells me Uhaul systems were down and she couldn’t take my credit card payment. She instructed me that I needed to go into the office and pay cash. I did exactly as I was instructed to do and since I had to pay cash (NOT by my choice but do to Uhaul) I had to pay an extra $100 deposit.. which I was told I would get right back! I was picking up in Waterford location and dropping off in Rochester which is only about 15-20 if that. I returned the truck at 6:30 was at their location figuring out the storage unit (since the systems were down the night before it didn’t add my storage unit properly) and the truck never left that location again after that. I finished unloading the truck and dropped the keys in the drop box as the gentleman at the counter told me to. I went back the next morning to get my $100 deposit back and they added on a whole bunch of extra fees to where I couldn’t get my deposit back at all. They added an extra day on plus an overnight night fee. Just enough to not give me anything back! To me that is highway robbery! You can review the footage and see when the truck hit there lot and never left again! There was no overnight or use of the next day at all. My paperwork says I returned the truck the next day at 8:01 a.m FALSE, I returned the truck at 6:30 the night before and had until 6:45 as my paperwork stated. I even made sure to go across the street to the Speedway and add gas, even though I barely used any, but I didn’t want that to be an issue! The whole point, they would have never had any of my money to play with if it wasn’t for Uhaul’s system being down and I feel they took full advantage of that and added all these obscene charges to my account just to not return my deposit that I was rightfully owed. I have tried to call Uhaul numerous times just to get put on hold and then they answer and hang up! I have never had a worse experience and felt so used and taken advantage of in my life! I would never trust that location or uhaul to handle business in the upmost manner!!!

There were always so many U-Haul trucks parked rather haphazardly around the facility, I had to drive "dodge ball" style to get to the bay doors. Overall, a great facility! Thank you.

Each rep that I dealt with had no idea what simple manners are, some were down right rude to customers, mumbling, making jesters, political incorrect statements to people, etc. When trying to call this location you can be on hold for hours. when in location the phone rang until it went to voice mail, with people in the store doing nothing. I would not recommend this location to anyone.

Please consider, better explaining in writing (email, pdf, webpage, not only the video): 1) disarming and arming your unit 2) access hours 3) what to do if an alarm is set off (accidentally or by someone else) 4) common obstacles - At this particular location, RV loading can make it difficult to view proper signage and traffic markings. This also makes it more difficult to find the drive up garage for loading. Great units! last comment - please consider 24/7 or 24/5 access. Or up until midnight during the week.

It's a Monday and your "manager" is nowhere to be found? Ridiculous.. I paid for storage here but believe me I will be looking to move as soon as I find another storage unit. Gave credit card to hold the units. Called in again 4 days prior to moving company delivery to verify units were available and apparently again dealing with call center, was told i didnt have 2 units only 1. The lady said there was nothing she could do for me and asked if she should look at different location. Told her no that doesnt help me at all. I would have to pay the moving company the time and materials to go to different area. She put me on the phone with she said was her manager, found out he wasnt a manager, he said nothing he could do and when holding units with credit card doesnt mean they actually hold it. What does that mean right? He offered me 2 indoor units 5X10 for $98. per unit with no discount. Thats was $100.00 approx. more than outdoor 10X10. Which I had on hold and somehow lost. Incredible. Then manager said he would hold those 2-5X10 units no problem without coming to store he had plenty of them. He said i wouldnt loose them. Then what happened to my 10X10 outdoor unit. I was extremely upset with no option at this point due to giving moving company address to facility and would have to pay to change. Went to facility(U-Haul) after work and spoke with CALEB! He checked my reservation and stated the units i put on hold were still there on reservation. 2 units like i requested initially and we finalized paperwork so I wouldnt lose units. CALEB was extremely helpful. Maybe he should run call center and save CUSTOMERS alot less stress and headache.I know three people should go somewhere else if they dont want to deal with customers or help anyway they can. Just saying!

My negative experience was returning the 19' truck I rented the first 4 days. I only saw this rental agent one time - during truck check in and he was really nasty when i asked to extend the rental one more day. I would describe his demeanor as abusive. I kept my cool and worked around the "issues" this fella had, but it left me feeling I was mistreated and had not been fairly billed. To this day I feel I was overly charged and had been 'tricked' into excessive truck rental fees. When I left I hired local movers. It was expensive, but I didnt want to have to repeat the U-Haul truck rental move in experience. The UHaul truck rental fees billed to my credit card "were shady". ANY additional fees should be upfront and texted/emailed to the customer upon the billing occuring.

He called my phone and then said the same thing in person like seriously leave me alone. He kept saying it like I was stupid. He wasn’t trying to be helpful he was upset I didn’t use the entrance closer to my unit. I told him it was my first time there and he just kept saying for future reference, which by the way is rude. Other than that experience with that UHaul employee everything else was fine except if it’s so important to use the entrance closer to your unit then UHaul should put those specific instructions in the initial move in email.
