Customer service was terrible. The person helping me check out was cussing an other customer who left his keys locked in the truck. The truck rented had a lot of bounce and was tough to steer. Rate per mile is extremely high.Biruk B.
TLDR: UHaul doesn't honor anything about their reservation system :) Also they hire people who are incredibly dismissive, refuse to help find solutions, and will hang up on you. They also hire people who are super helpful. I hope you get the latter. Horrible UHaul experience. I requested a 20' truck 6 weeks in advance for a 70 mile move. A few days before our move I received a call. At the start of the call, the woman on the phone - her name is Olivia and I'll explain more about how she's not my favorite person later - just blurted out "This is about the reservation for [name]." No context, no explanation. She seemed incredibly disorganized and had a hard time explaining to me what she was calling about. And when she did finally explain who she was, she kept telling me incorrect dates about our move. Basically, we're not starting out great here and she could've really used a script or something. After we figured out who she was and why she was calling me, she let me know that I would likely have to pick up the truck at a UHaul location 20 miles away or at a UHaul location ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PUGET SOUND WHERE I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE A FERRY. UHaul did not offer to reimburse me for the additional mileage. At this point, I decided to book a smaller 15' truck because the website said IT WAS AVAILABLE at my local UHaul. THE DAY BEFORE MY MOVE, when it was too late to reschedule our paid-for movers, I got another call from Olivia who unsympathetically told us that there were no 15' trucks available anywhere nearby and that we'd have to get a 10' truck. Even though the website said they were available. Like, I got a warning when I booked the 20' truck that it might not be available. During the reservation process nothing (that I quickly or clearly noticed) led me to believe that the 15' wouldn't be available. I think they just overbooked and I got shafted. So now, for our 70 mile move of a 3 bedroom home we went from our initial 20' reservation to a 15' truck, finally being downgraded to a 10' truck. Our stuff COULD. NOT. FIT. No remorse. No apologies. No understanding. Olivia was short, uninterested, and made no effort to find a solution. I asked if we could get two trucks and she basically said "I dunno." When I finally said we'll take the 10' truck, she said "OK" and immediately hung up. No confirmation, nothing. Literally it went like this, ME: OK I guess we'll take the ten foot truck Olivia: OK *Click, call ends* That's the kind of empathy I expect from a teenager working at McDonalds - because, yeah, no one should take a Big Mac that seriously. Not from someone tasked with something as critical as facilitating truck rentals for people who are 24 hours from loading everything they own into one of these trucks to make a pretty substantial move. In delivering this news she ruined my move and cost me hundreds of dollars and didn't show an ounce of remorse or interest. Luckily UHaul doesn't only hire Olivias. Although I would really like UHaul to employ one less Olivia. After BEING HUNG UP ON I immediately called back and got on the phone with someone named Jason who was incredibly helpful and professional. Jason explained his process as he systematically looked for a bigger truck in our area. And when he wasn't able to find one, he helped me book a second 10' truck so we would still be able to make our moving day and I wouldn't lose the money I had already sunk into hiring movers. Jason is awesome and I wish every UHaul employee was like Jason. I even called back a few minutes later and spoke with him on a small follow up issue that he quickly resolved. Can't stress enough how great Jason is. One last comment about Olivia because I can't help it. I have worked in customer service. I am not a boomer. I tip well and I have literally never raised my voice at someone who works in customer service. I get that these jobs stink. Olivia's job seems really hard to me and I think it's something that deserves a lot of patience because I get that she is just delivering bad news to people dealing with stressful life events. THAT BEING SAID, I have never been treated in such a rude, dismissive manner. Dude, I'm six months pregnant and could barely keep it together on the phone. But I tried to smile through all of this and use my nicest voice because I GET IT. THIS WORK IS HARD. But she is not cut out for it and she is actively making things worse for people by being in this position. I hope UHaul does something about this: train her, get her in a different position, SOMETHING. But I really, really hope that anyone reading this review doesn't have to deal with her or anyone else. In conclusion, UHaul is the worst and will let you reserve trucks without actually reserving anything. Nothing is sacred. You are at their mercy. Book from a different company. I will be telling this to everyone I know :)abigail K.

I was overcharged for gas so I called in to resolve it. I was told that's what the system says and it can't be changed. I only drove 10 miles and filled up the tank with half a gallon, but I was charged for 2 gallons of gas. They said a manager would call me back the next day but he never did.STEVEN B.

There were two employees when I picked up and dropped off. The female employee did everything for me both times, and managed the other customers as well. I was disappointed to see one person trying to manage cleaning, checking in, and checking out while the other (male) sat inside. I walked in to turn in my key after a mobile return and was turned away to return it with â€œthe girl.â€ I recommend some personnel action as one employee was working incredibly hard and the other literally watched and turned customers away. I was the second that was turned away to do a return and pointed to the other employee. I'd expect better in 2021.Matthew D.

The gas meter was lower than marked on the contract and I was charged $15 extra for gas refill even though I only drove 5 miles. I should have taken a picture and commented but the person renting me the truck was very casual about it so I didn't think i would be charged. My mistake.Samuel R.

Got caught in traffic on way to return truck and running a little later than their closing time of 5pm. Called 800 number to see where I could drop off after hours. Was told to return to original location. Was not told I'd be charged extra at 800 number or at location. Upon review of return receipt, I was charged double rates (2 days) for truck rental, dolly rental, truck insurance as well as $20 after hours fee. Again, I was not told any of this prior. That is absolutely insane to me to be charged double rates as well as after hours fee for 5.5 hours of a rental. If I was going to be charged double rates, I would have just kept and used the truck for another day. When I went in to speak to an associate about it, I was told all he could do was pass the message along to the manager. I felt like communication and customer service was severely lacking.COURTNEY B.

I rented the truck at the Leary Way station in Ballard. I traveled 14 miles total with it, put in 3&1/4 gallons of gas before returning And they charged me for 8gallons of gas on my emailed receipt. 11 and a quarter gallons of gas to travel 14 miles. How is that possible? Make sure you stay through the whole process of the return as they can not be trusted.JAMES W.

Though the people working there were helpful, it was a confusing location. There are no signs that you must park on the street until you pull in and I was rudely told no and told to park on the street. It took forever to get the van I'd rented even though I'd already checked in. The van itself was clean and worked great, but the staff could use a little extra help with customers at this location.Emma A.

Very very bad customer experience. Throughout the process of pickup+dropoff, I wasn't told anything about location not accepting dropoff after hrs. When I went to drop off, I saw poster. In the morning on Saturday at 6:52 am, they called me 3 times, woke me up from sleep, talked with me very rudely and asked me reach u haul by 7 am otherwise they will charge me extra. They didn't even listen to me and talked very badly with me. I complained when I reached there. Manager was also like we can't do anything about this. Not even sorry. Felt very sad.Tejash T.

The mileage on the truck was NOT the same as in our online account. The truck had 100 miles more on it. We told the Uhaul person working outside and he told us to take a picture and upload to our account, which we did with his help. We had the truck for 24 hrs, with return time of 830 sunday. No one at this location told us that it didn't open until 9am Sunday, so we sat for an hour waiting to turn in (arrived early so we wouldn't get dinged for another day). Also unable to just turn keys into key box at this location. And the cust scv person had a loud phone call w customer on speaker phone while we were waiting to check in.Jill D.

The Ford cargo van is everyone's van they never knew they needed. Seriously, this thing hauls in every sense. Fits tons of stuff, comfortable, and honestly pretty rad to drive. Way less stressful than renting and towing a trailer with basically the same amount of loading space. If I had three thumbs, the Ford cargo van would get all three way up.Kristen H.

I hate the YES/NO question. THAT'S BS, however, when I answered NO to question # 1, I was referring to the outside surface of the Van being unwashed, and the inside storage area to need cleaning. Overall this site has been very good and efficient. And the staff is very friendly!Daniel G.

The steering wheel, gear shift, and turn single were very dirty. I wiped it down with a Clorox Bleach wipe prior to use... to be safe and when I was done it was brown. I'm not sure what Covid-19 protocol you all have in place, but it's clear the vehicles are not wiped down. In additionally, the owner of the local(Joe P) wasn't wearing a mask inside while talking on the phone. There were two other customers who came in and also were not wearing masks. Very disappointed by the covid-19 safety measures in place. Please sanitize the high touch points on each vehicle after use.Andrew P.
