When I arrived to the location the door was locked with a doorbell requesting that I ring the bell and I did. When I was let inside the man told me that he was going to have to call a woman for the U-Haul. He texted her and it took several minutes before she called back. The man brought his cell phone over and put the phone on speaker phone for me to speak to her. Over the phone she went over my rental information and told me that my address was listed incorrectly and needed to be where I was moving to - I said that my address is the one listed but that I guess I could list my parents address in the Dallas area. She changed my address and then she told me that the utility dolly and furniture pads that I had ordered would have to be picked up at another location on sixth street in Amarillo. The whole process was handled over the phone and I had to provide my credit card information over the phone. I was pressured to leave the utility dolly and furniture pads on the invoice even though I wouldn’t be getting them from this location- she said the following “it’s no big deal you just show them the receipt when you get there and they will give them to you. You can take them off, but it will only take you longer at the other store. It’s not far, I drive there several times each day.” (This was not “easy” at the other store and they did not have a utility dolly to rent- never got it. She should have had these things ready in the truck prior to my arrival). Then the man walked me to the front door like he was walking out with me to get the truck- but no. He pulled the door shut and locked it once I got outside. He yelled through the glass that he would bring it around. This left me (female) standing alone in downtown Amarillo. For context, homeless people are sitting on this street with all their belongings just down the road and a man on a bike rode past me and yelled out at me. I moved closer to the building and fence of the property. I was not safe standing outside. Finally, the U-Haul was pulled through the fence. The man got out and said “the check engine light is on. You probably want to ask them about that when you get to the other store. Drive safe.” My mouth opened in shock at what had been said. I then had to drive this truck to the location on sixth street in Amarillo where they checked the U-Haul over. The inside was dirty and had some trash - homemade dolly? In the back. The inside had not been swept out and tires were found with no tread. This vehicle should never have been rented to me. It was dangerous to have rented it to me in that condition and could have resulted in a crash while driving it hundreds of miles across the state. My life was knowingly put in danger by their laziness. The other store on sixth street had to “make this right” but cost me hours of time. This location should be shut down by U-Haul.

There wasn’t an appliance dolly I requested for at time of pickup. They told me to go to the other haul facility but not thinking it’d cost me more to go grab it driving the usual. Overall wasn’t the best experience for someone who was loading and unloading tons of furniture by herself.
